Sell your car for free with Carwow: Mat’s got his hands on the updated Golf GTI! The team flew over to Germany to put the new GTI through its paces and to also find out what’s changed compared to the previous edition. The question is, can it compete with class leaders like the Audi S3 and AMG A35 For starters, let’s check out the design. Up front, there’s an aggressive lower bumper compared to the standard car, and there’s also a new light design that includes an illuminated VW badge and a DRL light strip across the width of the car. Along the side, you’ll find upgraded brakes with red brake callipers, and around the back, there are redesigned taillights, a small roof spoiler, and an updated bumper. As with any GTI, there are also twin exhaust pipes. Step inside and there are a handful of upgrades over the standard Golf. There are the traditional GTI tartan seats and a GTI steering wheel. The touch-sensitive buttons on the steering wheel have been replaced by physical buttons and there's also a set of stainless steel pedals. Otherwise, it’s the same as the normal Golf, which means there’s a large infotainment screen on the dash as well as a customisable digital dial display. One big change over the previous GTI edition is the performance! It may still have the same 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, but the power output has now increased from 245hp to 265hp! The torque figure has remained the same at 370Nm. The starting price for the GTI is around 39, 000. But are you better off waiting for the upcoming Clubsport edition, which will only cost around 41, 000 Or better yet, should you wait for the upcoming Golf R, which will only cost around 4, 000 more! You’ll need to stick with Mat and find out for yourself! Unfortunately, not all of us were financially literate early. I was 35 when I finally educated myself and started taking steps. I went from $176, 000 in debt with zero savings or retirement to now, 2 years later, fully debt-free and over $1000, 000 net worth. I know that doesn't SOUND like a lot, but I'm incredibly proud of it. Now I'm fast-tracking my wealth building (investing $400, 000 annually) and don't owe a dime to anyone. It's a good feeling!

whats the point of the gti anymore if the golf r is the exact same thing but way better for only 4k more, either the R is gonna be priced up in leasing and by dealership or they are just not gonna sell any gtis, because anyone whos got 40 grand for the normal one has 44 grand for the R. the R and Gti used to be actually a differnet thing but since the mk6 golf they are just the same thing with different power figures

those brakes are the standard 340mm/310mm brakes from the Passat B8 with te 240hp bitdi and 272hp tfsi engines. The brakes from the Clubsport and R have 356mm on the front and also 2 callipers insted of one, in my oppinion they should have come standard on this car too!

39k Thats expensive for that car. Definitely better options for about the same money. Id rather pay a bit more and get the r. Though i do hate paying the over 40k car tax. As i do any other kind of tax. With options this gti would be well over 40 anyway.

I've had a soft spot for the Golf GTI, and honestly, if you're looking for a more comfortable and mature hot hatch, then this one has you covered. Plus 5. 4 seconds 0-60 mph is pretty good overall. Definitely quick enough for most people.

IMO, VW messed up by moving the rear GTI badge to the center. I also prefer actual buttons for the interior functions over the touch screen - that's not a VW-only thing, but it's maddening to take a function from one touch to 3-4.

17 brakes under a 19 wheel, yeah right matt. The latest mustang has 15. 35 (390mm) front brakes and they fully fill a 19 wheel whilst those on the golf aren't even close and obviously different front to back

Tested a new golf last year- not a GTi but an R version. Without doubt the most sterile and boring car I have ever driven- and they wanted 30K for it. I kept with my 10 year old 2. 0 Diesel version thanks.

I had a MK5 GTI which I sold to a friend many years ago. When I sold it, it had 280, 000 km on the dial. He drive it for 3 or 4 years and let it go with well over 400, 000 km on the dial GREAT CAR!

I'm 47yrs old. $73, 000 biweekly and I'm retired, this video have inspired me greatly in many ways that I remember my past of how I struggled with many things in life to be where I am today!

Funny - I'm so happy with my Golf GTI TCR 2019 it's so much nicer than any version of the Golf 8. When the Golf 8 was launched I was happy because there's no reason to change at all

Not bad. Not good. These incremental horsepower increases are exasperating. Just give us a 400 HP Golf and we'll 'buy it. I mean 0-60 in 5. 4 sec. That was good 10 years ago.

Drag Race - New GTI, BMW 128TI, MEGANE RS, I30N, FOCUS ST, CIVIC TYPE R, MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS and CUPRA LEON.
This is the type of race we all want to see the result of!

In UK maybe it's just 2k more for the Clubsport but in a lot of European countries, it's way more than 2k cause of the CO2 malus, so taking a standard GTI makes sense

One flew past me other day and I tried to get him to pull over. sham, because now I have to go into town to get haircutfast travelling hairdressers are not good.

1: 00 - 17 rotors Even to the naked eye the front/rear rotors are different sizes. This bloke (Matt ) is a fraud who enjoys the 'journo perks' a bit too much!

The polo gti has that drl (that u csn only really see at night ironically) and if we being honest, it looks horrible. Why would they add it to the golf
reply

Golf R be more expensive to run service tax insure that’s the downside and more on parts Gti is the working man’s hot hatch and more iconic: )

I have a 7. 5 GTI Performance & I still think they look better than this. 8/8. 5 aren’t anywhere near aggressive looking in my opinion, a shame

Very nice! Thumbs up! Score VW! It makes you forget all about electric cars. It gets you excited about automobiles again. This is a German car.
