Sell your car for free with Carwow: This is the new MINI Cooper! It’s available as either a petrol or electric car, and we’ve got our hands on the electric car for this review. The question is, when it comes to compact cars, is this one of the best you can buy in 2024 For starters, let’s check out the design. From the outside, it is unmistakable as a MINI. There are three trim levels available, and we’ve got our hands on the top-spec Sport edition. This means it comes with an aggressive front bumper, black tone detailing, side skirts, and a large (but fake) rear diffuser. Step inside and the new MINI is a nice place to sit. The main feature of the interior is the large circular infotainment screen in the centre of the dash. The majority of the car's functions are housed here, including the climate controls, but unfortunately, it’s not the most responsive system. Elsewhere in the cabin, there are well-designed, recycled materials on the dash, but in lower-down spots, there’s a fair bit of plastic material. Thankfully though, the seats are super comfortable. Given we’ve got the electric edition, it’s only available as a three-door. If you want a five-door MINI, you’ll need to choose the petrol car! There are two versions of the electric MINI available. The entry-level is the Cooper E, which comes with a 37kWh battery that can produce 184hp and 190 miles of range. The other edition is the Cooper SE, which has a 49kWh battery, 218hp and 250 miles of range. If you choose the petrol car, the entry-level has a 1. 5-litre 3-cylinder turbo that can produce 156hp, or there’s a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol that can put down 204hp. All MINIs are front-wheel drive, and they’re all automatic! The petrol-powered MINI starts at 23, 000, while the electric edition starts at around 30, 000. However, the price can rise by a lot - the top-of-the-range car we have here costs over 42, 000! So is it worth it You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself! Lets see - 53, 000 USD Mini Cooper that will depreciate like an asteroid falling to earth, BMW BS where they put a JCW appearance package on a car without putting in the performance, electric, super heavy (for a mini, so/so reliability, and you sit higher in the car. Minis are for broken people. I am broken people. I truly hated these cars until I bought a project R55 JCW. I still kind of hate it, but I also really love it. It's legitimately fun as long as you don't mind wrenching on it. I don't think I'd ever own one as my daily, but if you want a fun car that will make you question every life decision you've ever made while you are taking half the car apart to replace a part, go buy an older one with a manual and a turbo. At least you (or an independent shop) can fix it when it breaks. With this car, you're back at the dealership for everything. I can't imagine what your bank account would be like after the warranty runs out and the car has depreciated 60%!

What a crappy car. My Peugeot 508 2. 2gt from 2011 has absolutely all the options plus a tone more, it's unspeakably cheaper, rides great, has space everywhere, has more quality interior and the nav doesn't glitch. You can actually have passengers, a baby, luggage and full glass roof, heads up display and electric lumbar support are standard, not level 2 equipment on a ridiculously expensive electric car. And the interior doesn't look like made of the cheapest plastic found in Pakistan. Whoever buys this must be mental or really doesn't appreciate the value of money. Ah, did I say it has the same power as the most powerful mini Ah, and it's as heavy but way bigger

This thing sucks. Its too small on the inside despite it growing in size. Its stiffer than before, its expensive, it only has two doors, has its climate controls in the screen, has ugly tailights, and its not fast Its slower than the base tesla. If there is anything an EV shouldn't struggle with, its being quick, and 6. 2 seconds, while not a bad time itself, is pretty bad out of something that costs 42, 000 GBP. I never thought a small, EV hatchback would garner this many criticism from me but god damn!

Well done BMW, you have finally managed to kill every part of what the Mini was designed and built for. The size, buying the John Cooper name only, (they can't even respect that Coopers always had WHITE roofs, and now even the price is a joke. BMW calling this a Mini is a disgrace of the corporate world. Progress If costing people off the roads s your mission. yes. This car has never been more than a terrible facsimile.

Is the Electric Mini made in China
Yes, BMW's all-electric Mini will be made in China starting in early 2024. The new manufacturing plant is located in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, and is a joint venture between BMW and Great Wall Motor. The plant will produce the next generation of the Mini Cooper 3-door and Aceman, which will replace the current hatchback and station-wagon variants.

The only thing i dont like about the new mini is the tail light's shape. Should have remained a pill like shape like in the previous one.
Looks good otherwise. The general shape does remind me of the Mr. Bean Mini.
Anyway, the price is just garbage, as is the case with many other modern cars sadly.
Mini (Cooper) is supposed to be the cheap car for everyone. Not whatever that is.

Well - all the guys compaining about the price. I had a look at quite a lot of cars to replace our Toyota Hybrid. The Mini SE is a great car, great fun to drive and I got 25% discount. Nothing in the price range was even close when it comes to quality and driving fun. Paid 37k for the SE JCW Trim. Remember a Toyota Yaris here full spec is around 35k here.

I like the styling but other than that why the hell would you choose it over a Model 3. The Model 3 is now (finally) decently built, is faster, much much more practical, goes further, is more comfortable, has a better infotainment, can comfortably seat 5 people, has a large boot and has access to the Tesla supercharger network. Mini has lost its mind.

The interior is what the brits would call naff. I hate, absolute hate, how Tesla has managed to convince the average buyer that a huge screen in the middle of the dash is cool and luxury, it's much cheaper to make and design, it's such a huge cost cutting thing and it's now the replacement for a normal cluster and physical damn buttons

Its not a small car though. 3. 858m long in its shortest version.
The original mini was 3. 050m long.
Its gained 0. 808m!
You could streach an original mini and add an entire extra row of seats and still have it be shorter than this.
And modern cars are all bigger, then why is it considerably bigger than a VW UP

reply

Give me a car, not a fisher price toy. It looks awfull, it weighs more than a transit van, & if I've got 42K to play with I'd have a sporty German car. PS: I used to work at Longbridge where the Mini & the Metro were built, I saw the very last original shaped Mini come off the track. They were proper Minis.
reply

The back end is a design mess which makes it look nothing like a Mini anymore and the dashboard and instruments are a huge step backwards with the loss of the quality feel and look that made people willing to pay more than for other small cars. The whole BMW/Mini design team should be sacked.
reply

I like the rear lights actually. Has spider man eyes, and more cornered look. The previous oval shapes were getting stale. and making them bigger n bigger was the only changes they could do. The Cooper S drive was fun, quiet, refined and still go carty.

There is currently a delivery STOP on the J01 electric mini’s to fix their infotainment issues including it’s lag, don’t know when the fix is coming out but probably best to hold off full judgement until a little bit later on i suppose

Opening and closing the doors and the boot sound really awful for a car that wants to be premium. I don't know if it's the sound of the video itself, but I don't remember hearing those kind of sounds in door cars for several decades.
reply

absolutely not this car is not only hideous to look at, vastly overpriced and will probably sell in china (where it is built! yes very British) for half this price. BMW is taking the p-ss
reply

When Matt said to Shortlist the mini. I say, just Avoid the thing at this point. If I want a fun electric hatch then there is Ioniq N with a DRIFT mode mode, gears and everything.
reply

China Mini.
Did you know Great Wall is CCP government owned company
Nice to know they sell overpriced mini EV while getting a lower cost compared to the ones made in Europe

reply

It might look clean but the new Mini design has lost much of its old character and design features - loved by previous owners. I’ve had three but won’t be buying one of the new ones.
reply

It’s not a mini.
It’s just ugly,
No style,
It’s electric,
Nothing going for it,
Looks like a Suzuki swift
Price, absolute f -ing ripoff
