Mat takes you through a full 4k review of the new Ford Focus. For years this hatchback has been ultra competitive in its class competing against the Volkswagen Golf, Peugeot 308 and the Vauxhall Astra, but how does it handle and how much boot space does the Focus have in comparison to the rest of the market? Mat answers all your questions and more

Let's be real for a minute. If this was a KIA or Hyundai, the comments would be much harsher. I dislike the focus because the boot is useless, the rear seats have very little room for me (I'm 183 cm tall, the infotainment is horrible, the materials are a joke but the absolute worst is related with Mat's claim that it's -good to drive-. Yes, it does feel great in the corners and you feel in control when driving it, but the unbearable wheel noise combined with the unstoppable wind whistle takes a lot away from that experience. For the same money as an entry level Focus, you can get a fully loaded i30 or Ceed (at least in Greece you can. They both have independent rear suspension, all the latest safety features (including radar cruise control) and a lot more kit (sunroof, dimmed rear windows, two-way climate, rear camera, auto light & wipers and a lot more. Also, the later models are very well made. Nearly as well as Toyotas

My Focus 2012 went in for repair (a woman ran into my front door on the parking in front of my house. yeah, and I got a BMW 114D as a replacement. Hell, do I miss my Focus! Damn, the BMW is SO overhyped. Basically, I can't see anything this car is doing better than my Focus. It's small (crammed inside, it's stiff (the Focus is more composed, the commands are very stiff (to the point of feeling uncomfortable, and the steering and gearbox are just meh. I was expecting top notch build quality, but that was a huge letdown: as an entry level trim, this car is just BARE BONE! From another age, really. So thank you, but I'll keep my hard plastics here and there and will enjoy the much better driving experience.

I own this car for almost two years, exact same color, titanium 1-liter eco boost with 16-. much more comfortable and no need to worry about hitting curbs. I would say, according to the today's standard, infotainment system and interior -could be- better. But folks, this model around 18K euros. it comes with very refined driving pleasure, Sony sound system, automatic pilot parking, start and stop, reverse camera, sensors everywhere, and other standard equipment for titanium trim, folding mirrors, led interior lights, daytime running lights and list goes on. Also ford focus has good reliability records. Stop complaining if you don't know. buy something else if you don't like the brand or model. period!

just drove a 2108 focus se and amazed at the absence of direct road feel, we have a 2003 focus se and the steering puts the new one to shame. you can FEEL the wheels and what they are doing in the older one. the newer feels disconnected isolated and the assist is way too much. otherwise, power feels ok, alittle lowend grunt right off the bottom, smooth mid range, abit growly and rough at the top. good pull similiar to my 94 probe gt but the probe may win in a drag race. seating felt tall, ride quality felt cocoon like quiet when just cruising around. instruments, lackluster, easily forgetable nothing special for the eyes at all. handling ok but ive felt way better, that steering doesnt help

this car is awesome, I have the '16 with auto. it drives better than any car I've ever had and I'm 67, it has the automatic and the shuddering when you take off mostly in city driving. we live in the country and that rarely comes up. it has over 100k on it now and still drives same as new. the wife picked it out and didn't like the look of the hatchback and got the sedan. big mistake. get the hatch! loading and unloading the trunk is night and day. on ours the rear window goes so far back the opening is too small. on the back roads this thing drives like a sports car. the power is amazing for such a small car. the only thing I had to fix so far was when the trunk struts gave out

I have a 2016 Focus Ecoboost 1. 0 Titanium. It's a superb car for it's size and will tackle all weather conditions with no hessitation. I've driven through flooded roads and deep snow with no problems. The driver's seat is very comfortable and doesn't cause aches on long journeys. I get about 50 mpg from the 1 litre engine which is pretty good. The display shows fuel economy of 70mpg or more. It's well built and if you you fit Mitchelin tyres, you don't get much road noise. I have my Focus serviced by a Ford dealer and they know all my car's history and only fit genuine Ford parts.

If something is snapped into place and won't ever be a problem for an owner, why is it a big deal if you can snap it out of place? Why is that even a remote concern? (nitpicking. The body lines don't match like you like at the fuel point? That bugs you enough to knock the car? (nitpicking. The dashboard is hard, the door panels have hard plastic that you can't flick a finger to and that's a concern? Who even touches dashboards and who flicks door panels? (nitpicking. Wow, your review is thin on things to complain about but I guess you wanted to come up with SOMETHING.

I have the 2017 Focus RS and I absolutely love it. For the price you're really getting a lot of car here though.
If you're going to go in the Baseline models go with the SEL or Titanium you'll be glad you did.
Sunroof bigger info screen & an awesome 10 speaker Sony audio system. Among other nice features and if you don't like the info system.
Just buy a better one. Or better yet just use your I-pad it's better anyways.
Overall the hate is unjustified and is a hell of a lot better than the shity Taurus I had before.

I believe that the ford focus in some areas is much better than the astra and the equipment levels are better in the astra only the top spec ones have an armrest and the SRI astra has no dual zone climate control therefore the astra is only better if you get the top spec one and you only get an 8 inch screen on NAV models which is mean however its more spacious than the ford but hay ho the new focus is out soon and the astra is to be updated soon let's hope they give it better equipment
