Its the battle of the family friendly SUVs, and I get to grips with three of the biggest hitters, the Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. I cover all the bases; interior quality, infotainment system, practicality and driving quality, so you can make the most informed decision. I also explore all the handy and annoying features of each car, as well my very own unique test so you can clearly see which SUV towers above the competition. Which car do I prefer? Find out now in this 4k Head2head review!

DON'T BUY THE TIGUAN AS IT HAS MANY DEFECTS AND PROBLEMS THAT VOLSKWAGEN CANNOT FIX!
Welcome to my hell. I leased a 2018 VW Tiguan last July and have been battling with Volkswagen since I got it with the B pillar noise (both sides, engine stalling, and the horrible jerking of the vehicle after releasing the gas pedal. There is a factory defect with Tiguans where the pillar was not properly welded together at the plant so when the vehicle's body stresses it clicks. I have taken my Tiguan to get this and the other defects taken care of and Volkswagen has no solution. I have discovered that the local service personnel are just as frustrated as they are stuck waiting on Volkswagen engineers to come up with a solution. I opened a case with VW of America to buy back my Tiguan and after months of back and forth nonsense, VW of America basically said that is the way the Tiguan functions so too bad. Once again Volkswagen has cheated their customers by ignoring a defect and not fessing up to it. So either we all get together and complain to Volkswagen, better business bureau or suffer. This is my 7th Volkswagen and my last. Good luck to all who are suffering with the Tiguans' defects.

Why can't people design any good looking vehicles any more. Not a single modern car looks any where near as beautiful as old classic cars. A the whole motor industry has to talk up turds and hopelessly built cars now. Low capacity Engines pushed far too far in order to keep omissions down and torque up. Cars are bursting into flames, have full catastrophic engine failure after only a few miles. The list of recalls on cars now is rediculous and dangerous to life design flaws are getting ignored as companies simply won't take responsibility. All these suv's are totally pointless and in most cases have less space and practicalities than estate or even smaller hatchback. All the real 4x4's are gone now and those that could almost still be capable are so over priced they are out of the reach of people who might actually use then properly. Its only going to get worse as more impractical electric cars are forced on us all most of which are not eco to build or run due to how our power is being created.

I bought a 2019 VW Tiguan in April 2019 after driving these 2 plus the Mazda CX-5. No regrets I love it. Wouldn-t mind a bit more power off the line but it-s solid and quiet and comfortable and wonderful on the highway with lots of cargo capacity and door storage bins are huge and lined with carpet - mine has the small 3rd row, a CD player, heated seats and push button start and the long VW Warranty and it looks good outside to me. I don-t mind the conservative styling because it-s classy and will age well. I do miss the LED headlights but the Halogen headlights do melt the snow quickly.

I think crv is much better thought out family design than the 2. It has this special feel when you come in and out. Easy to come in and out, No fighting with the neighbor's foot at the back seat as the floor is flat. Oh i love this feature too much. There's more quality feel front to the tail. There's more rolling than the vw tho. Tiguan have this big mound at the backseat which in long distance for 3 back passengers is not very comfortable. The plastic trims feel so cheap and actually cheap. The space feel crampy even in the driver seat. My husby love his tiguan, family love CRV

I own a Honda crv. Its not as solid in feel to a VW and its not a car your turn and look back at but it is bloody reliable as a motor. It does everything the others do just without perhaps the feel. Thats not saying its cheap etc. Its just what it is. As a family car I really can't fault it. I work on recovery on the motorways and in 16yrs I have only ever had one honda broken down but that was an old import. Lost count how many VW's I have been to. Toyota are reliable as well but I can't say much about them.

Matt, that honda is simply the best SUV. we have honda CR-V since new, from 2014. 5 years driving it every day to work and no problems, no problems or foults at all! That 1. 6 diesel its just briliant engine with a great economy! And don-t say that the car is too soft compering with competitors. That CR-V is quite hard on the bumpy roads. and my opinion the biggest shit of all is the new volkswagen. just telling what I have heard from many, many mechaniks.
Thank you HONDA for another one best car ever!

I still drive my 2012 Tiguan, such a delightful, peppy SUV. It-s a little heavy on gas but I got safety and enormous enjoyment on highway driving. Maintenance is surprisingly little. Mufflers, brakes, exhaust still the original one. Put on Four new tires and yearly windshield wipers plus every 8000k service. Yes I don-t have the high tech gizmos which is just fine. Will wai
t for the electric or hybrid in my next Tiguan

Just spend a week in a RAV 4 and what a shitbox. It was like driving a Toyota from 1990. Handling was crap, gearbox was terrible, ergonomics of the dash was rubbish and it was dangerous when you were trying to pass other vehicles. I do not know why anybody would buy one. Best thing was the space in the rear seats and the cargo area. Apart from that it was just rubbish.
Build quality was also very poor.

Matt this question is for you. You mentioned that the car the CR-V is quiet rolly Polly while on a curve. Looking a the car dimensions I do think that it's quiet a large spacious family car but do you think that you would go around that corner so hard in that car especially if you got your family in there especially with your kids?
reply

Time always tells. Today the VW has poor resale prices due to the gearbox reputation. The CR-V has a 4 cylinder turbo engine that has oil dilution problems (run. The Rav4 seems the best choice but beware 2019 as the auto is now 8 gears that are causing problems, stick to 17/18, they have the bulle proof 6 gear autos.
