Pontiac Vibe GT review! Today I'm reviewing the exciting Pontiac Vibe GT, which is a high-performance hatchback that everyone forgot about. I'll show you the quirks and features of the Vibe GT, then I'll get it out on the road and drive the Vibe GT and show you what it's like behind the wheel

They were ok Doug. Good on fuel. But like you say, they don't pull until they get up in the rev range. I preferred the quad4 H. O. cars from GM. Lots of negative press around them but they were torquey and made decent power. Review a quad442 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais with the W41 spec engine. Imagine, 190H. P. in 1991! Oldsmobile also had the Rocket Parts catalog which offered factory performance parts for these cars which was fascinating and probably an industry first for 4cyl cars during the time. They went hunting 300mph at bonneville and A. J. Foyt broke the closed course speed record in the Olds Aerotech if I recall. If your gunna review a quirky, history filled 4cyl car, the history regarding the Olds quad4 is amazing.

I still have mine I bought in 2003. At the time I had wished I could afford the Sat Nav head unit, but after seeing your review of it, I'm glad I never did.
Interesting thought about the GTi you brought up. I had just visited a friend Christmas of 2002 and he showed off his 6 speed GTi, when I got home I was already planning on buying a car and decided on the 2003 Vibe GT
As for the Voltz you spotted, I have heard that some people have imported some back to the US, but some have also rebadged their Vibe as a Voltz. The only way to tell for sure is if it's a right hand drive

I agree on the interesting backstory. When I found out my 1990 Geo Prizm was a Toyota, I kept buying from that lineage until that plant closed. I have the standard Vibe with 290K miles. Totally practical vehicle. You can fit a washer or dryer in the back.
The backstory I was aware of was GM's plant was closed or doing poorly. Toyota needed a plant & GM agreed to sell it but worked out the clone vehicle production that were GM badged Toyotas for GM benefit.

I had a 2005 1zz corolla for my first car. Realized too late I could have a corolla with VTEC. If I could do it again, I would get THIS.
2zz engine has lots of mods, forged internals, headers, everything. Sometimes this stuff goes on clearance cuz noones buying it. The corolla xrs guys used to swap the matrix xrs ecu because their VVTL switched to a higher cam profile like 500 rpm sooner, but the best car with the 2zz is the celica GTS. mmmm.

It is interesting that the black Toyota Voltz picture Doug showed actually located in Indonesia (I can tell from the license plate) and that means this person somehow had the desire to import it from Japan and got it in here. The plate is indicating it's from Jakarta area and I live in greater Jakarta metro but never seen this in person on the road, maybe that Voltz is possibly the only one that exists in Indonesia if not handful

I bought my 07 Vibe 5MT new and it is blast to drive still. A few things Doug missed
1. With the front seat folded you can fit 8 lumber or a 2x8 (half sheet) of plywood and still close the hatch.
2. There was a GM performance parts (rebranded TRD) supercharger for the base engine.
3. The cargo area under the mat and seat backs are hard plastic with integrated tie-down tracks. They came with tie down eyes.

I was selling Pontiac's during this time period. The toughest part was to get someone to drive the GT version as many thought it was merely a Vibe with a few decals ( GM did a terrible job of marketing the vehicle) once my prospects drove them, I had a high closing rate. In my experience, women bought the Vibe GT at twice the rate men did. They were really good, quick, practical cars.

I still have one. Mine is a 2006 but it was not the GT. I have a 4wd with all the bells and whistles, except nav (thank goodness) and leather. Love the car! Hard for me to sell it considering it's 215k im mileage. Practical and fun to drive. I was able to get a whole Ikea kitchen boxes into it along with a family member. Wish they could bring a new one back.

I'm waiting for someone to realize that in 15: 37 it isn't in Japan. It is in fact in Indonesia, specifically in Jakarta because of the license plate. And funnily enough, as an Indonesian that live my entire life in Jakarta, i never ever see one of those as these probably rarer than a exotic supercars.

Great little compact wagon. Not-so-fun fact: The Vibe/Matrix odometers will stop working and freeze up at 299, 999 miles due to a programming fault. The base model with the 5-speed, 1ZZ motor suites me just fine. Also: this GT model has a licence place issued in 2009, not 2005.
