There were 11, 052 in 2 years. 7, 838 in 2003, 3, 214 in 2004. Black and silver were available in both years. 328 blue ones in 2003. 980 red ones in 2004. The transmission tuning and gears were for fuel economy but 4. 10 gears and a tuner were HUGE upgrades that many owners did. Pretty much the upgrades, modifications, and accessories are endless. Daddy Doug and I spoke about this and mine was just far too modified with about 25, 000 in mods over the period of my 17 years of owning my 2004.

The thing that surprised me most back in the day about products like this and the Crown Vic police interceptor (and to a certain extent, the Caprice SS and later the G8) was the impressive handling. Compared to other Panther platform products like the Grand Marquis or Town Car, the suspensions on those souped up models were as tight as luxury sport sedans. It's a shame American manufacturers can't manage to do products like this anymore. You basically have to build one yourself.

I remember the pre-launch hype over this car. As a young adult at the time, it seeemed more like a step in the direction, not actually exciting or genuinly cool. Felt a lot like more like a way to appease the really old guys, rather than tempting to anyone younger than 45. They should have done a supercharged version, and then that marauder name could have really meant something.

I love these cars. Only ever saw a couple of them in the few years I worked for Ford, but damn, it was always a treat. Customers had custom exhaust systems, so they always sounded great, and they usually didn't need any work, so it was cool to just talk to the customers if the shop wasn't busy. I have a P71 from 04, and I want a Marauder so badly. They're just cool.

I got a test drive of one of the first delivered to my local dealership. Loved the look but I was really disappointed in the acceleration. As you stated it was a dog below 4000rpm's, not enough torque to move the big beast. I have had 3 GM B-bodies and currently have a 96 Impala SS, they are so easy and cheap to bring the acceleration score up to well above 6.

18: 40 Typical Ford big block engine. Always takes longer to rev up because the engines had a longer stroke (make jokes here.
Chevys usually beat Fords off the line because of that.
Shorter stroke means more horsepower more quickly and more low end torque to get you moving quicker.

Nothing looks like business like a black Panther-platform car. Marauders are so cool. Imagine if Ford had kept their V8 RWD sedans going, either by importing the Australian Falcon or developing something domestically to compete with the Charger.

I went to a car show in PA where someone had a modified Marauder that was an 8 second sleeper. It was twin turbocharged and it looked stock except for a stealthy roll cage in the interior and under the hood of course. So cool!
