Can someone answer this question? Ive never had a straightforward answer on it (asking if using electronics when the car is off wears down the car battery)I have a 1999 Toyota Camry and just had a quick question (consider it an average car battery. Usually before I go into school I sit in the parking lot with my car off, radio on at a comfortable level, and phone charging (this is probably for about 15 mins. I usually do the same thing during lunch (radio on for 10 mins. Phone charging for 25. Then after school I do the same thing for 15 more mins, then start the car and drive off. My car has never had trouble starting. I drive home about 5 miles going 35mph some of the way then up to 65mph probably 7/10 of the way, so the alternator most likely fully charges it every time since Ive never had trouble with a low battery start. Am I doing more harm than good? Should I stop what Im doing and leave my car idling when I do this instead? How bad does this affect the lifespan (or maybe it doesnt) of my battery? Thanks

i remember Kia optima with a turbo and gdi in the commercials from 2012, my neighbor bought one, and 4 years later she didn't drive it anymore. the engine burned oil after 30k miles, the turbo went out after 80, and the price from the dealer, to replace out of warranty, was about 8 thousand dollars. the only maintenance she did was all done at the dealer, so she was confident her car was taken care of. but bad designs and cheap assembly don't hold up over time. so she kept driving her '95 civic from when she went to college and to this day, i still see that optima in her garage she's really bummed out about it to this day

My family have bought Toyotas for 50 years. Bought a 2019 Forte brand new. Best economy car I ever bought. Of course Toyota of old, are superior in every way. However, Today, Toyota, is just average. Im betting that a Forte will be just as good as a Corolla in the long run. Drive them all before buying. Buy what fits you best. It may be a Mazda or Subaru. Reliability wise, cars are closer more than ever. Ive put 30k miles on my Forte and its been very inexpensive to service. Also, my insurance is cheaper than if I would have bought a Corolla. Buy what you like and serve you best. I love the Civic hatchbacks too

Mr Scotty, I've been on this earth nearly as long as you and have seen a swing from Toyota to the Korean manufacturers over the last 10 years or so. Given that Toyota are fighting recalls left right and centre, and the Korean recent dependability, it sounds like there is a calibration required with your viewpoints. Not sure how long it's going to take you to see this, but the wind is changing old boy, you'll see it eventually.

One I went to VW and the owner said to me; listen you seems like a nice guy I recommend you better go somewhere else look for another brand and buy a good car that offer more and is cheaper, don't buy this crap. I was like, shocked at first but grateful later. True story Second story I was at Citroen and guy told me Citroen is better than crappy Kia. Lol when he said that I went straight out.

If you want to buy a car and keep it for more than 6 years, your ONLY choice is Toyota/Lexus or Honda/Accura. All of the rest of the brands are pretty good up to 6 years old, but after that you really want to get rid of them. So just like BMW/Mercedes/Audi; if you want a Hyundai/Kia or Mazda/Subaru, or any other brand = LEASE THEM, don't buy them.

I recently rented a 2019 Kia Optima and the 2019 Camry. I expected to prefer the Camry but it was pretty bad. The 8-speed transmission was really jerky and I was glad to return it. The Kia was really great to drive and would probably buy one if I needed a car full-time. Obviously this doesn't say anything about long term reliability.

Go to a Ford dealership and ask if Chevy trucks are good. LOL Yeah how the hell is that a question if that is smart or not? I've owned two Kia's and both of them have been relative problem free. And price was a factor in buying them because they were cheaper than any American car of the same style.

If you're someone who keep your car forever until the wheels fall off, I would say don't look at anything besides Toyota. If you change car every few years then buy whatever you like, as you won't keep it long enough to have serious issues aside from resale value.
