This New Porsche Engine Just Changed the World
video description
This warantee was from Infiniti and it cost me 1, 100. I shopped all over and the most expensive was 2K (out of Connecticut) for the same warranty, so it was worth finding this dealer in Minnesota that would sell it to me at that price.
I had a seat motor, 2 window motors, a third brake light ( 300 right there) and steering column replaced under this warranty. The warranty easily paid for itself and gave me some peace of mind. The only thing it wouldn't cover was wear and tear on cosmetic parts. I take care of my cars, so that's not an issue.
My grandfather purchased a third party warranty for a used Lincoln in the 90's. I don't remember what he paid for it, but he needed 2K worth of airbag suspension work done on it and they covered it. I was surprised.

A starter is, basically, 3 components: solenoid, contacts, and the actual motor. The contacts connect and disconnect the huge amount of AMPS that power the motor. It is beefy! But they wear out. Most people replace the entire starter not knowing that a 25 cent part failed. At my father's autoshop, we rebuilt starters and alternators. It cost about 7 of parts and 30 minutes to an hour of time, at that time (1980s! We made a nice profit because the parts were inexpensive and we made sure that it was done correctly. In the 1980s, the quality of rebuilt starters and alternators was horrible. We were not trading with China yet, so inexpensive (dirt cheap) replacement parts did not exist!

I'm not concerned w/ the 'production rate' of the piston, the programming & the material delivery system will be refined & you'll see the time be reduced. What interests me w/ 3D printing are the features you described, that are near impossible to produce by other mfg. methods. That's the real benefit. The pistons still have to be machine finished for the precise diameter, the wrist pin bore you mentioned & whatever else. Question: Did Porsche specify if they printed one piston at a time? That's the neat thing about printing, multiple parts can be made at one time. They can make a combination of parts too; piston, tappet, pulley, gear at the same time.

Having access to 3D printing would allow these brands to have a new business model making a living on selling parts for older models, or even potential upgrade packages for them, but on demand, rather than with a production line that inevitably gets costly due to being more practical to mass produce rather than just make a couple of parts every trimester. Printing said low demand parts would be quicker as well because when you introduce something new to a production line, most of the time stuff has to be changed which means they'd have to stop production till the retrofit is complete.

SCOTTY I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! I have a 91 Celica I just got for super cheap. The last guy who had it put the battery on the wrong way and it cranked but woant start. I changed the 100A alternator fuse and was hoping that was it. But when I reconnected the battery, the alternator started smoking out of nowhere. What do u think is wrong, I m hoping you know because I don t know who else to ask, thanks.

I have a Mazda 3 2005 1. 6D Manual, and it wont go over 3K RPM. It is slugish a bit, running around 30% slower and weaker. I took it to the shop and they couldnt find ANYTHING wrong with it, they changed some filters, tested the Turbine, and nothing. They suspect its some safemode but nobody knows how to disable it. HELP SCOTTY! I need my car to run fast again. Thank you!

3D printing is yet another digital disaster in the making. Need a model to cast parts? 3D printing is definitely the way to go, but replacing a forged anything in any metal via a 3D printer? Fugettaaboutit! There are some castings you might replace with printed parts, as you point out, it takes hours and hours to make a single part.

I appreciate what they did but they are the least company that should even be allowed to test something like that lol.
Because all crap they make from 2002- current. They can't make a BMW or Porsche to save their lives anymore. Maintenance & heart aches pastt 30k. Horrible products. Great fun but not lasting at all.

Sure! hand built with 10000 worth of pistons and it grenades because of a 2 seal failure. BMW is the ultimate driving machine. Porsche is the ultimate money pit.
They obviously have nothing better to do. They are going to be out soon due to electric cars taking over and knocking their socks off!
