Having owned a number of Honda CRVs, I agree with Scotty they are incredibly reliable vehicle. I currently drive a 2004 with around a hundred and eighty thousand miles. The only real problem I have ever experienced with the vehicle which is indicative of this transmission. Thi is that its has a tendency to have a vibration at a particular RPM between 1700-2300 (roughly) where there will be some vibration either accelerate or decelerate to stop the vibration. This is an issue with many of these vehicles. Its something you have to live it (this issue isnt detrimental to the vehicle) with because you will go mad trying to find out the source of the issue which is most likely internal. But other than that if you live in areas that use road salt there can be some issues with rust around the rear wheel wells. If the compressor for the air conditioner was not replaced yes they can self-destruct I believe that most of these issues were fixed via a recall some years ago when the cars were new but just be aware of that issue like Scotty said.

I bought my son a 1997 Geo Metro four-door Lsi 4door sedan sold by Chevrolet we bought it used had 41, 000 original miles automatic air conditioning believe it or not manual steering did not have power steering and no overdrive it was basically a Suzuki Swift and that thing ran good for a long time last year my sons girlfriend was driving it and the front driver side wheel basically just snapped off hanging on by the axle I guess and maybe a few other things but the wheel literally broke off from the superstructure/frame of the car the car could not stand up to The salt that Ohio puts on our roadways in the winter time to melt the ice and snow if you seen how very little metal there was holding that wheel to the car you would ask yourself how in the name of God did the American government let that car be sold to the public I would recommend unless you live in California or Arizona southern Texas something like that that you never ever Buy a Suzuki/Geo Metro anything. Just not enough to them to be safe

Hey Scotty heres one, 2014 I was asked to do a tuneup on a 77 Cadillac, the Old girl was in mint condition its been parked since 2005, After hoseing down 11 black widows with Gumout carburetor cleaner replacing the battery, inflating up 4 flat tires, filling atmospheric vent tube on the carburetor, several pumps later, Wallah la she fired up, all the lights turn signals everything work beautiful, but the only problem was, It had one tank full of gas, dang near choked me to death, that old fuel 9 years old, still would burn( usable) roll down electric windows, turn on the AC which it didnt work but its still blew, drove it everyday 30 minutes and within a week I got rid of that darn gas. youre right the gas today wont last a year it will gum up everything, I asked the lady who owned the Cadillac if she puts stable fuel in it when she parked it way back when? and she goes whats stable?

i have a small engine repair business and i never recommend using stabil or any other type of fuel additive for long term storage of your machine. why? most people never use/mix it properly (most idiots just dump the whole bottle into fuel tank and hope for the best) and the real kicker is it does not last as long as the mfg claims it should last. the best thing you can do is to completely drain the fuel sys and leave it dry if you intend to store your car, truck, suv or lawn and garden equipment for any length of time over 1 calendar month, todays fuel has e-10/15 ethanol in it and breaks down rather quickly so it is my personal advise to get all fuel out as soon as possible if you want to prevent fuel sys related issues.

With todays gasoline, it is hard to start any engine after 45-60 days. I grew up on Amaco fuel, had to chase it via BP, now I cant buy 93 octane white gas. I always used Amaco 93 in my mowers, trimmers, car and truck, never had an engine failure, a rusted muffler or tail pipe. I bought a cheap jumping jack tiller to do some flower beds and a garden in 1991. I did not crank it for 16 years, it sat out behind the garage. In 2015, I wanted to use it, opened the gas tank, it was right at 1/2 tank. of Amaco white 93 octane. Two yanks on the rope and it started and ran just like it did new. Now you buy fuel at the amount you think you need in the next two weeks. My o my, where is quality headed.

SCOTTY PLEASE HELP My wife and I want to trade in our 2007 Chevy avalanche and are looking into diesel trucks. We are currently looking at 3. A 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4WD LTZ with 282, 412 mi for 17, 995, 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4WD LS with 333, 352 mi for 11, 995, and a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD 2WD with 166, 164 mi for 9, 995. Which sounds better? By the way, all of these are at a dealership, should I buy from and individual? How do you feel about high mileage diesels? About Duramax engines? What kinds of things should I look out for or consider? Should I go for Cummins? This is my first time getting a diesel so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Agree with everything Scotty said about gas. I live in Miami and hurricane Irma was last year a friend had some gas that was from then about 1 year old he had for his generator. he put a gallon in his car and in 5 minutes the car was shaking missing and stuttering with all the lights on the dash lit up. 1 gallon of old gas and it ran terrible for the whole tank would that have been the generator wouldve had to drain everything maybe remove and disassemble carburetor. And in my experience the fuel stabilizers will gum up over time and turn like a sticky varnish. Not sta bil necessarily but I would much prefer to store it free of any gas in the system

Scotty- Since I was about 11 years old are use to work on lawn equipment and there was always issues with the gasoline turning into lacquer thinner after Winter. I figured out how to clean out the carburetor is fuel tank replaced fuel lines when I was a kid. The one fuel stabilizer that I tend to use and havent seen a failure from is called StarTron. This product can be bought at pretty much any auto parts stores. Ive seen and had many failures from that red StaBil. Expecally in small equipment But I think all said and done with the main issue with fuel today is all the extra ethanol. Keep up the Good work

And Scotty says the 01 Dodge Ram trans is weak, yet it lasted for 18 years? Though Im not a Dodge fan (though I used to live in Dodge City, a trans that lasted 18 years sounds good to me. The Dodge trans are good. Look at the durability of the trans behind the Dodge diesels with tons of torque. But who knows if the trans fluid in the 01 was changed on time, and how the vehicle was used and/or abused. 30 years ago if you got 100, 000 miles out of a vehicle without major expenditures, you had a heck of a ride These days with proper maintenance, vehicles will last practically forever.
