That UAZ could be converted to have an electric fan. Saw a while back a remote thermostat block, with 2 x 50mm in/out lines and a 10mm constant flow bypass. It also had a 13mm threaded hole for thremostat sender. That could be added into the vehicles cooling system. Would reduce fuel consumption and increase warm up time, while making it quieter as well. That would also increase its fording depth a little. Think this part was intended for kit cars or race cars.

I worked in logging over a summer break way back in 2008, we had a Russian KAMAZ truck - that thing was a beast. It was an old cold war relic but when ever the territory was too difficult for any other truck the KAMAZ would be able to get there. It never ever broke down. Ever. The thing was purely mechanical, as long as it was kept lubricated it would run forever. It was funny to watch a 30 year-old truck pulling all the new trucks out of the mud.

Scotty I do love you bro but just gotta let you know that man is a complete maniac that stabbed his band mate +40 times in self defense and is partly responsible for church burnings in Norway, went to prison for it and got out. The man is completely unhinged, and nobody should want anything to do with him. Everything I said is %100 true and if no one believes me all you have to do is google it.

wow. low tech. That 1988 is like an American 1948 vehicle. Not that low tech is bad. looks easy to work on. but might make for an uncomfortable ride if your going to go on a long trip. That thing would be epic around here. I would love to pick my kids up from school, park next to all these 60k Luxury SUVs, and get out and hand crank it to start it. The looks would be priceless.

The engine is UMZ 414 and it have around 80hp. You can see engine number on 2: 19, under the spark plug of first cylinder. The firs three digits are the type of the engine and next three are modification of the engine. The next group of digits shows the year and month in witch the engine is manufactured and after that is the serial number.

Really interesting. A very Soviet way of doing things. That is not to say it was right or wrong. Military personnel will break anything so give them less to brake and it becomes more reliable. It makes me appreciate my LandCruiser even more. Japanese way of doing things is different, if it breaks make it stronger and more reliable.

Soviet incompetence? Tell that to your German friends in 1945. Richest NATO economies couldnt subdue the incompetent USSR while France lost Algeria and Vietnam in the most disgusting wars started by your war hero Charles De Gaulle who hid in the woods while that war was won by the Soviet incompetence.
