And The Oscar Goes To. How and Insane Campaigns Dictate Who Wins Big SweetAshori: Honestly, I don't quite care for the Oscars outside of the Best Animated Feature category. Even then, knowing how there were academy members that admitted they would just vote for whatever their kids/grandkids liked, it makes me not very happy with that either. Granted, my feelings are because I'm an anime fan, and it always feels like anime films just get the pity nomination and not because they rightfully earn the spot. As it was, when Spirited Away won in 2002, it was a lot in part to Disney promoting it far more than their own offerings for that year. This year will be no different. Mirai got a nomination, but we know it's going to lose against all of the other competition. It stinks, but honestly, it's not like it's ever going to change either. Even if the Academy were to change up how they voted or whatever, anime films will likely never get the recognition that I think many of them have deserved. That said. looking at the nominees for this year, I do think that Disney isn't going to get an easy win this year. Spider-Man: Into The Spider Verse has proven to be more competition for them than how it had been in more recent years. I think that this may be the first year in a while (that I can recall) where Disney may not be able to win it.

I thought Best Picture was to praise movies that have creative expressions, great cinematography, stellar acting. Sadly it isn't if Black Panther is nominated. But Philip, the Climate is more important than Culture in my opinion. Can you please cover the Youths for Climate movement happening in Belgium. The speech given by Greta Thunberg has inspired Belgian youths to step up and more or less march every Thursday in Brussels, the capital of Europe, to protest for regulations against the toxic waste corporations create and make laws to better our world for our future. Your coverage would change this story from being on the first page of every news article in Belgium to the first page of international papers. This could reach millions and help our cause that started so small but yet became so big

You just heard the video say that nominations are moving towards more popular films like black panther and then complain about why they are nominated. People just can't stand to see an all black cast. Get out your feelings. I would be happy if an all Asian cast movie was nominated because I am all for representation for monitory groups in films And some of y'all just don't understand any culture other than your own so it's no surprise when people say well I don't understand why BP is being nominated it's not that great with your hating self. Shame that a film embracing African American culture and pride offends people. I hope it wins But if it don't, then at least there was a nomination And that's a huge accomplishment for the movie industry as a whole

I have to be honest. I understand you wanting to branch out. However, I really only enjoy your videos, because I like hearing your opinions. And sometimes these videos go off the deep end, like this one. Setting this all up as if Best picture and least disliked picture are in any way different. In fact, this type of voting is more fair and would be amazing in political elections. Right now if your pick doesn't win, your vote effectively stops mattering right then. If we used the type of voting structure, then even if our preferred person didn't win, our next best pick possibly could. For anyone to assume this is a bad thing is kinda nuts. Just my opinion. Either way, still love your show, when it's you actually doing them.

This was a super interesting and great video up until that guy essentially said complaints of bad gay representation are somehow a secret whisper campaign to make the film look bad. (In reference to Bohemian Rhapsody) The people who complain about that film and the gay rep in it (or lack there of) are the gay people watching that movie who were angry that Freddie Mercury being a gay man was terribly censored all while villinizing the gay scene. A pg-13 rating doesn't mean they can't show Freddie being with men, and the gay parts of his life were not dark or evil. but the movie certainly makes it seem that way. The complaints of the movie not being gay enough are rightful.

Phil & Team, I really enjoyed this video. I know that you all have been trying to branch out as a more official and professional news source. For me as an avid consumer of news, news media, and a long time viewer of this show and your other platforms, I felt that the information presented as well as the interviews conducted for this piece, we're insightful, well edited, and conveyed a strong and coherent message. You all did a good job with this one. Thanks for all you do and I look forward to your next video.

Ive seen all of the mentioned movies for Best Picture. Really enjoyed all of them. Personally, Crazy Rich Asians was the best. It had all the laughs and tears (happy and sad) that I could ever want in a movie. Amazing performances and writing. They did a great job portraying traditional Asian culture as well. As someone who spent their entire relationship up to marriage (and past) in a very judgmental and unsupporting environment due to my wifes Thai parents, it hit really close to home.
