I mean, your own stance on this issue seems to be based on Philipp's direct statements and answers, and conjecture on the rest. It's a bit like asking a thief if they robbed something or a potential murderer if they ever killed someone, of course they're going to deny it. Yes, some evidence here is quite debatable and some of the paraphrasing wasn't entirely accurate, but Philipp's excuse for not telling him he was working on a video is weak at best when this is a crucial point. Stephen seemingly had every reason to believe it could wait, and when you're made to wait for someone sometimes other compromises arise and you can't immediately turn them down, especially when operating within youtube's algorithms, but while it is understandable why Philipp wouldn't want to divulge information about the video, just saying I have a video like this/about this in the works is all he had to do. Even IF Stephen wanted to make a gotcha video, this still wouldn't be any kind of really useful information, the best it could do was force Stephen to make a rushed and much more clunky version of that video.

Philip from Kurzgesagt handled the situations exceedingly well with incredible transparency and integrity; this is how you deal with ANY controversial and I absolutely applaud them for how honest, genuine, and transparent they are and how they address their own standards for themselves. Should you trust Kurzgesagt is the standard that every youtuber should uphold themselves to. Honest writing, acknowledging and fixing mistakes, and transparent process. Coffee Break is just being a toxic drama troll and is upset he didn't get to run a smear campaign like he hoped; he doesn't deserve any traffic due to this controversial and instead should applaud Kurzgesagt for answering his questions and owning up their mistakes and creative process. The fact that Coffee Break is being so upset truly shows that he planned to run a smear campaign hit piece and cared more about clickbait than actual integrity. He should be happy.

I dunno. I definitely think Phillipp could have just said, We're actually working on a video about these exact questions so I am not going to discuss it with you until it comes out because it will cover all of this in detail and I don't want to contradict myself or otherwise misrepresent the issue until we have worked out exactly what to say about it. Instead he was quite misleading, acting like he had no problem with it but then publishing a video that was already in the works saying the opposite. Why do that? Why not just be honest? Who cares if he was writing a gotcha piece or not? If you say, no comment b/c we are making a video on that that doesn't give any gotcha bait one way or the other and it's perfectly transparent. Also, I don't know why everyone is shocked (shocked) that Stephen wants clicks. I mean, isn't that the entire point of YT?

Stephen is dishonest. The most important thing to him was not Kurzgesagt correcting course. Instead, he was most angry because Kurzgesagt robbed him of the opportunity to publicize himself as special for correcting the video. The nature of social media is that criticism and corrections often flow quickly in comment sections. Content creators don't owe commentators who happen to be fellow content creators the courtesy of making their video first to control the narrative. Kurzgesagt retains the right to correct its stances on its own. The fact that they actually did come clean about their error solves the problem. Not for Stephen of Coffee Break though. His gleeful entitled expose video showed his opportunistic colors for what they are. Zzzz

I was also astonished to see the coffee break video, cause I am a long year fan of Kurzgesagt. And I was really wondering, how such could happen, but doubted. I wrote there, that Kurzgesat should open the emails. And they did, so there is everything out and I think Kurzgesagt did ok-ish. It was not best, as they could have told him Dude we work since 2 years. But I can also fully understand that they als fear a take down video from coffee break. Therefore it was ok, how they reacted. But coffee break did a little bit white washin in his comments, which now let look him bad. If he only would have said: He guys, I requested you for a interview, and nw you take down the videos. Give me the first interview, as we have a cross-over here.

Honestly even if they had stolen the video idea from him I dont know that I see anything wrong with it since its their business as the subject for the video. If someone emails you and criticizes some of your actions and then you accept youve done something wrong and publicly apologize, how can that be a bad thing? If his goal truly was to correct misinformation and stop the spread of it he would not care that they released a video addressing it before he did. In that scenario its really a win-win. Thats why I think its obvious he was just making a hit piece to take down someone bigger and boost himself up. I dont agree with that kind of behavior.

In these situations I tend to assume the most optimistic interpretation. I have played enough Maffia and Werewolf games to know that people can simply make mistakes, and these mistakes will be heavily compounded by a strong negative conviction that the other side is wrong. There have been so many times where I figured a player was a civilian, despite that all their moves were werewolf-like. I think in this case one can assume the same: both people are civilians. They arent werewolves. If you ever play Werewolf against me: my moves are always werewolf-like; -)

Even if Stephen was the motivation, even if Kurgezagt only did the video because it felt Stephen was onto them, even if Kurgezagt played his interview shuffles strategically. There is nothing wrong done here. Only Stephen's misunderstanding of journalism. Stephen seems to be under the assumption that if someone finds out about your wrong doing, only they have the right to out you, and you must just wait to react. You cannot out yourself or make amends until they are done with what they wanted to do with the story.
