Phil D - re coronavirus - this is the best thing I have seen re the situation. I only wish you had a president who just stopped for a minute and used his position to spread the truth. I'm a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I've been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis, TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria. there is little I haven't been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or downright scared. I am not scared of Covid-19. I am concerned about the implications of a novel infectious agent that has spread the world over and continues to find new footholds in different soil. I am rightly concerned for the welfare of those who are elderly, in frail health or disenfranchised who stand to suffer mostly, and disproportionately, at the hands of this new scourge. But I am not scared of Covid-19. What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers and instead are being donned in airports, malls, and coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear and suspicion of others. I am scared that our hospitals will be overwhelmed with anyone who thinks they probably don't have it but may as well get checked out no matter what because you just never know. and those with heart failure, emphysema, pneumonia and strokes will pay the price for overfilled ER waiting rooms with only so many doctors and nurses to assess. I am scared that travel restrictions will become so far reaching that weddings will be canceled, graduations missed and family reunions will not materialize. And well, even that big party called the Olympic Games. that could be kyboshed too. Can you evenimagine? I'm scared those same epidemic fears will limit trade, harm partnerships in multiple sectors, business and otherwise and ultimately culminate in a global recession. But mostly, I'm scared about what message we are telling our kids when faced with a threat. Instead of reason, rationality, openmindedness and altruism, we are telling them to panic, be fearful, suspicious, reactionary and self-interested. Covid-19 is nowhere near over. It will be coming to a city, a hospital, a friend, even a family member near you at some point. Expect it. Stop waiting to be surprised further. The fact is the virus itself will not likely do much harm when it arrives. But our own behaviors and fight for yourself above all else attitude could prove disastrous. I implore you all. Temper fear with reason, panic with patience and uncertainty with education. We have an opportunity to learn a great deal about health hygiene and limiting the spread of innumerable transmissible diseases in our society. Let's meet this challenge together in the best spirit of compassion for others, patience, and above all, an unfailing effort to seek truth, facts and knowledge as opposed to conjecture, speculation and catastrophizing. Facts not fear. Clean hands. Open hearts. Our children will thank us for it.

Everyday that goes by the WHO and CDC lose credibility and fail to curb expectations on the Corvid-19 pandemic. Yes it is a pandemic, by definition. Their refusal to call it what many have been calling it for months now shows they are not being honest and playing politics for some ridiculous reason. The numbers are a worst case only and there is a massive and I mean massive difference in what they are reporting and the actual unknown numbers. First the Flu is still significantly deadlier threat than Corvid-19. January and February had almost 3. 5x the number of deaths from the Flu, an infection we have vaccines for and a virus with symptoms and spread patterns we have been dealing with for a ridiculous amount of time. Versus Corvid-19's entire known spread from November into March. A virus we have no preventative measures for, still aren't certain of how and when it spreads, what symptoms we can confirm a carrier has or how to detect those infected. Corvid-19 is much scarier than the flu because of all the unknowns, but it has been showing it's highest mortality in areas with higher pollution and affinity for smoking with lower access to medical care as well as among the elderly and already sick. The flu is still killing a large number of people despite the preventative care and treatment available around the world for it. This makes it more deadly than the corvid-19 virus. The biggest thing that gets me is that they aren't even talking about the fact that tens of millions of people around the world have been exposed to the virus over the last few months and the cases they are talking about are mostly confirmed cases that were tested and were severe enough that the infected sought medical care or hospitalization. The number of infections and exposures are in the millions. This 3. 4% of 110, 000 cases is the worst 110, 000 cases that we could confirm and were recorded and shared by international governments. One person going through an international airport with the virus is exposing hundreds of thousands to it in that one single day. Assuming that the airport sanitized every surface and air filter between each day. With the estimated 9 day survival this means that up to 3 million people were exposed and became carriers. If China had about 7 million people traveling over Chinese New Year and we are expected to believe that in a country of almost 1. 4 billion and a holiday traffic of 7 million that less than 0. 008% of the population has been infected? So then now the world has only had 0. 0014% of the population infected 45 days later? It seems that the numbers are way too low at this point to seem believable. But the point is that the mortality rate is likely hyper inflated by inadvertently only using the worst case scenario metrics we have been getting and the survival rate is much much higher than what we are being told.

Could you please point out that although the average person may be fine with Covid-19, that vulnerable people can and will die. People keep talking like our lives don't matter. Some outright saying it is fine if the elderly and immunocompromised die off, like we aren't real living people. I feel like people are reading 3% death rate as each person who gets it has a 3% chance of death from the illness instead of 3 in every 100 people WILL die from this. Expect to hear more in the UK. Even in our town we have 2 confirmed cases, one from a gym, and another from a popular shoe shop in a busy shopping centre (mall. The gym is closing for a deep clean but hasn't said anything about staff quarantining, but it is likely already too late. Also here people are bulk buying toilet paper (I have no idea why) and bulk buying soap like they've never washed their hands before now. There is also a story of someone who tested positive for Covid-19, the went to a bar to INTENTIONALLY SPREAD THE ILLNESS. I am pretty sure that constitutes bio terrorism and murder/manslaughter because spreading it will certainly kill people.

All we can do as fans of an artist is take them for their word. If fan support saved people from addiction or mental health issues demi would have not relapsed. We are a million people who dont know these people like we think we do. We also can not FIX something just bc we say something. That's on them to do. But what I will say. those clips of post looking like that is the same damn behaviors of my brother who was abusing prescription pain pills. Does that mean HE is doing the same? Absolutely not. Nor would I say such. He could have just been tired, maybe he had a friend come by the shoe and he drank a little too much. But I think he also needs to realize this party guy persona he puts out is why people got concerned and fast based on 1 video clip or show. The dude is never without a beer in his hand. Who's to say it's a real beer. frankly. but I think celebs forget that we see what we see and often times it may not be real, but we dont know them behind closed doors. Just like we dont realize that we DONT know these people behind closed doors we know the performer not the person.

This internet world of misinformation feels like 1984. The introduction of labeling information feels like more 1984. I think the labels are good in the short term, but how long until the corporations control ALL of the information and use that to their advantage. I wish I knew of a better solution but despite my reasonable fears, I think active fact checking is a good thing. The problem is, with power comes corruption. It would be cool to see this be a new venue for Wikipedia, perhaps they could find their funding in hired fact checking and real time analysis. The fact is, the truth exists and it will be self evident. Real time fact checking during political debates would be wonderful, and while inherently flawed, would be better than the information system we have now. The beauty of this system is sources would have to be posted and then the populous could squabble over the sources, this would be a relatively self righting system.

Phil as a (practically) lifelong fan, I'm disappointed how slanted your defense of Biden's stutter seems to be. Continue to spew the MSM's argument of the most recent clip as cleverly edited. It was an obvious troll from Trump/his team. Why are you reporting defending Biden's obvious incompetence and not talking about how the DNC is all-of-a-sudden changing their debate format now that it's Bernie vs Biden 1 on 1. Also that they're barring Tulsi Gabbard? And don't even tell me there's just not enough time in an episode. No, this is a non-story that has already gotten too much attention and only backfires the more it spreads. I watch you to get away from these weak arguments that CNN and MSNBC spew. Biden will not beat Trump and not just because he has a bad stutter. As much as I want Trump out of office, Joe will just embarrass himself and Trump will have fun making fun of a man with cognitive declination.

As a northen Italian I have been in the red zone from Sunday. The amount of people that tried to run from the North before the decree came into act are the reason it is now valid in all the country. They were irresponsible, selfish and dangerous. An interesting part of the decree is, however, that we can still go to work, and therefore be in contact with people on a small scale, and go groceries shopping, being in contact with people on a big scale. The fact that the government did not take into consideration more drastic moves before now is disappointing, I would rather the economy crumble than old people die (in Italy old people are the majority. That said it is interesting how there is no news of some kind from countries like France and Germany, one would think that being neighbouring countries, we would share a lot, but the virus seems not to have spread there so much. I wonder why.

Italian here, basically last night the Prime Minister annouced that the red zone is now extended to the entire country. We can go out only for groceries and health related issues, like if we need to see the doctor. Schools have been closed for about two weeks and will continue to be closed until the 3rd of April. We all need to make little sacrifices to stay safe, and try to be positive, after all they applied this method to one of the first red zones in Lombardia(Lodigiano) and it worked because they reached almost zero new patients in hospitals

I think its pretty dangerous to talk about corona virus in this way, majority (currently 94%) of people recover from this virus. You're speaking about this like its dooms day forthcoming or something BE ALERT. No just be smart, wash your hands, sneeze into your elbow. Remember its basically the common cold so you have an extremely high, like basically you wont die chance of surviving. Stop talking about it like its anything beyond that. PLEASE. Media coverage like this has caused the panic buying all over the world STOP IT.
