video description
Phill, I've been watching you for over a decade and have strongly thought of you as a fairly unbiased source of information.
Please consider this as cunstructive critic and not an attack or a shaming attempt, but I relly hope you cover this topic alot more evenly as it develops.

Whether outraged is feigned does not matter, and it most certainly isn't up for the target source of the drama to decide whether outrage is feigned or not.
People will try to dismiss literally anything that can be the source of outrage by saying the outrage is feigned. This happens all the time. Particularly with recent events, we see plenty of examples of people doing this. People accuse rioters and looters of feigning outrage so that they can take advantage of the situation and do what they want; does that discredit the point of the outrage? Of course not. The fact is there will always be some people who will be willing to feign outrage to take advantage of a situation. Their intentions don't discredit the points they make though, and it's silly to think otherwise.
If people wanna say he did it decades ago, that's fine; it really was decades ago and it's no big deal now. But at the same time, it's hypocritical of him to say I'm a bigger person now, but you're a scumbag. If you had to face backlash for it back then, or even moreso if you managed to get by without any backlash, both are reasons why you should not be jumping on the bandwagon to attack them, and instead empathize with them and try to show how your view has changed and how they should also change. Attacking someone for something you used to do is ridiculous, especially if you've moved on. The Mia Khalifa story is a great example of this actually; she's advocating for people to avoid porn for their own sake. She's not shaming and attacking other porn stars for doing what she viewed as a mistake, but rather encouraging people to reconsider it. and rightfully so, she's made that mistake herself and regrets it now. Likewise Kimmel should be doing the same; he should be encouraging people who are doing racist things not to be racist, rather than attacking them for making the same mistakes he made. Anything else is hypocrisy.

The fact that people left of center politically are throwing Kimmel under the bus is genuinely upsetting. He is a supporter of all things in the modern liberal philosophy and the first in the talk show circuit to speak candidly on social issues like race, gender or systemic inequality.
Of course he s no saint. same to be said of any comedian or any celebrity of multiple generations in the public eye. Morality, ethics or at the very least the court of public opinion are all fluctuating and ever evolving concepts.
None of y all wore a bigoted costume unknowingly? None of y all ever laughed at a racist joke in a movie or on TV? None of y all let some dumb shit that a friend or relative slide cause you were ignorant?
1995 and 2005 were different times than 2015 and now even in 2020, in terms of people s awareness of ills relating to more subtle racism and how they permeates society systemically (speaking from my circles and experiences. The key is Kimmel learned and does his best to speak up now. not what he did or didn t do when white culture en masse wasn t even aware of things like white privilege, social justice, equity, institutional racism, police brutality etc.

That was not a protest, it was anarchy. And why were you ignoring CHOP/CHAZ like every other Democrat Phil? It has been going on for weeks and only now you cover it when it suits you political agenda of portraying responsibility to your favourite party? And defending Kimmel for the wrong reasons? He and you are a hypocrisy. I came here expecting decency at least on the political side of things but you just pick and shroud the news that does not paint the image in your favour. It is almost the same every single show, I recently moved to reading the Wall Street Journal and let me just say, I am disappointed in how you cover the news now, or at least your liberal script writers if any. Honestly, get out more.

I think there's a pretty big difference between the stereotypical blackface that was used in the past to mock black people and changing your skin tone so you can portray a specific person.
The original blackface was used to mock the entire black community. It was a stereotype of every black person. That's why it is so incredibly offensive.
What Kimmel did was a little different. He is portraying a single person. Not a mockup of an entire community. I don't applaud the choice to do so. But people need to realize that there is a big difference between blackface and pretending to be a specific person. Neither is necessarily a good thing. But I think one of them is WAY more offensive than the other.

On the Chaz/Chop story.
Ive been following the Chaz since its establishment. Phil, you either are using surface level information, or am letting your bias get in the way of real information. Ill choose to assume the former.
In the Chaz/Chop: violent crime has increase drastically, racism has escalated with segregation, they have armed enforcers walking around the zone, they are extorting civilians, and actively use mob justice (means if the mob decides you are guilty, you are guilty)
Then to top off with irony, because they have had so much crime and other issues, they have built a wall, created police, and are now establishing a curfew.

No sorry CHOP needs to be shut down it should have never happened calling your self not apart of the United states but then want police fire food trash pick up water and other city services while saying you not apart of the city NO thats not how the world works. For a community leader to allow this to happen it's like saying sure MS13 you can have the keys to the meth lab and can we get you anything you need to make more meth. Have you seen the videos of the security force in there they are playing judge jury and executioner the kid that died i bet he was executed.

I understand now that 'intent' is not a free pass for white people to use these images.
This quote feels like spouted shit for me. If you're going to make a point of how different races shouldn't be highlighted in anything (which is why the race-changing makeup needed to be applied, why would you then highlight White people? instead of just intent is not a free pass for people? This if you think it's not acceptable from EVERYone, then it's not acceptable from ANYone and the fact that it's from a white person needn't be highlighted.

People blasting Kimmel for doing an obscure impression of Karl Malone and not Eddie Murphy for dressing up like literal stereotypes of Asian and Jewish people need to get their heads checked. This situation is just like Robert Downy Jr in Tropic Thunder, its not Black Face like going to costume party or taking roles black actors roles is simply impersonation and satirical stereotyping. These Cancel Culture addicts need to be put on proper medications so they stop looking for endorphin releases from finger pointing and fake outrage.

I think the problem with the internet is that we take it as if everything is happening at the same time, we need to understand that time passes, all the blackface and dumbass tweets people get cancelled for, happened at a different time, we should all grow from the past but we shouldnt cancel people for things that they did ages ago. If we keep doing this, our footprint on the internet will become a weapon against us. We gotta be careful about this type of stuff. We gotta deal with it differently than simply cancelling people.
