What is worth salvaging from an old smartphone? Rebecca: i always find a new home for my old phones often giving them away to family and friends when i no longer need them. i often have insurance i currently have the note 8 as the spen in invaluable for everything every phone should come with a samsung hall effect Spen with the functions it has i dont know if i could do without it. samsung has finally created a real upgrade in the note 20 when it is release 108mp camera improved spen functionality is just wow def going to be hooking it up to a telescope because it will be much more sensitive than the cannon and much higher detail including 8k video that i can run thru registack etc and get a very stable refraction cancelling images

This is terrible. If you have a phone as good as an S6 there a lot of other ways to breathe new life into it like installing a custom ROMs, using it as a server, etc.
I'd kill for even a Galaxy S2 since they have excellent community support.
The only reason it would be acceptable to do this would be if the phone doesn't work anymore at all, but if it's still working you're just wasting an expensive device that could have hundreds of more use cases.

HDMI display controllers are pretty popular on eBay. So are camera controllers. See the videos on YouTube about making your own webcam or 4K projector. I would pin a notice to this video linking people to those. Do not throw away your camera or screen! Also, unidirectional conductive film makes reusing ICs a lot easier.

And at some point GREAT SCOTT realized it, selling the old and slow phone would be better than made apart, recovering a good couples of 100's respect to few s of the cost of the little recovered parts. this is the reason i prefer to uses it like wheight for fix papers.

Those saying to keep it intact, I have tons of old phones, 1 or 2 I use as a whole device. The rest are great for parts to a. Add functionality to another device and b. Minimize package size, power consumption or complexity (which usually makes the intended device more secure.

I just bought 3 smartphones on Ebay to use either as bluetooth or wifi screens for my Arduino's & ESP32's or even as remote security cameras! For 2 each, they are way cheaper and better quality than alternatives! Torn apart they are worthless.

Why not standardize these components and provide their data sheets? Such a monumental waste to throw away all those parts that should be reusable.
Especially the cameras could be used in a kinda spycam or monitoring build

Can't we use the cameras and batteries in the smart phones?
As smart phone usage is widely extended
We have to do something with the cameras batteries and the PCBs of old mobile smart phones

I've been saving mobile cameras long enough that I now have 36. But I keep every part. Eventually ill figure out something creative. Maybe make a digital simulation of a fly's vision
