First People In New Zealand Maori History Documentary Sean: Rats killed the trees mate, it's proven now, weather heat events caused a prolific flowering, leading to an over abundance of seed and fruits, the Rats ate huge, bred like a plague, The trees could not reproduce fast enough until all gone. The Rapanui people walked the statues with ropes, they wobbled them along with ropes. It was like a ritual team effort and a huge responsibility. It would take many days, if you lost control and it fell it was left there. They slept by it and then got to it each day as a team, special. You can see abandoned ones along a kinda road way, I'm from NZ, the language is almost total TE REO. IE Maori language. The walking has been replicated and you can raise up and walk them. A group with training and knowledge of how would have been good a it, if u ask the islanders how they moved the statues they say the Mowai WALKED. so no roller trees, those trees would pop and split anyway. Talk to Native people when u travel, they know.

Although this documentary is well made, there are some anomalies in the history that it portrays. There are other documentaries that suggest that there have been much earlier civilizations that had inhabited New Zealand long before the first Polynesian sailors arrived here. There is ample arkeological evidence of stone walls & structures that predate the arrival of the first Polynesians. Also in other documentaries, for example Redheads part 1 of Skeletons in the cupboards series' there is suggestion that there was already a civilization of an earlier race living here. Secondly the other name given to New Zealand 'Aotearoa' did not come into being until well after European settlers had arrived.

er- excuse me- the Mauri were not the first to colonize and live in NZ -they first nearly wiped out the people that were there and finished the last lot off, who were found on a small island - whale whip told the Mauri of these people- a Mauri ship set out and wiped out this last group in the late 1880s. Ngapuhi leader David Rankin said books by authors such as investigative journalist Ian Wishart and historian Noel Hilliam presented clear evidence that some of New Zealand's earliest residents might have arrived before the Polynesians.

A waka - canoe - has been found not so far from where I live on the West coast of the south island of NZ which has been dated to the 1100's - its in the Te Papa museum in Wellington. The 'scientists' were quite upset at their research being proved wrong and it's never been shown to the public. It proves maori - or just Polynesian sailors treated the Pacific as a motorway - they went everywhere and NZ was just a stop off on the way.

Alot of the history of new zealand pre colonial time has been lost when the british outlawed Te Reo, so now New Zealand history is based on heresay basically and any oral history that tries to be passed down is written off as myth or fallacy.
When it comes to new zealand just take everything with a grain of salt, as it truly is the epitome of cultural and historical erasure.

I wanted to post that on the floor of the Dutch Royal Palace on the Dam you have a map of the then known world(say1700)and you see Nieuw Holland(australie)and Nieuw Zeeland. So no Terra Australies. New Zealand is called so because is just on the opposite of Zeeland in Holland Also there exist good maps of the coasts of Zealand in those times

NZ not only had the biggest bird ever they also had the biggest eagle ever the Haast eagle unfortunately when the Moa went extinct so did the Haast eagle because Moas were their main source of food. Im a proud Maori too but the sad thing is that there are no full Maoris left the last one died in the 60s I think.
reply

Glad this is the truth, well according to a pommie anyway. At least you pronounced the Australian land by it's real name 'Terra Australis'. Australia is actually a Pommie Corporation.
Did he really say hiya waka? I thought it was Hawaiki as in Hawaii. O. o

The first humans to reach NZ were not the Maori or Waitaha, it was the Lemurians and ancient Waitaha acknowledges this. this planet has been inhabited by humans for far far longer than what many are told.
Just ask Barry Brailsford.

NZ was NOT named Aotearoa at all, our Country was named Nova Zealandia by a dutch cartographer in the 1600's, Aotearoa does not mean land of the long white cloud at all this is all made up by modern maori who want to feel special

ANCIENT CELTIC NEW ZEALAND. . SAYS OTHERWISE.

The moriori are the first people of New Zealand. The volcano Taupo made the north island inhabitable and most of the south island was frozen due to ash cloud. Taupo could be seen from Rome and China erupting 5000 years ago.

I stopped watching as soon as I realized the actual Maori arrival was glazed over. Urgh. I'm so over hearing about colonisation. Learning about the indigenous people of the land is wayyy more interesting.
reply

Try as they might but Westerners will never figure out indigenous people of aotearoa including ancient civilizations around the world like the Mayan who they say were the 'mayan religion'. hilarious
reply

This chap says that there were no inhabitants, but Treaty of Waitangi Tribunl work clearly showed that there were inhabitants who preceded Maori. The Homeland, 'Hawaiki was Taiwan, Genetically Proven.
