How many people still believe in Roman/Greek Gods?

How many people still believe in Roman/Greek Gods? You know why we studied the Greeks, via the story of the Iliad and the Odyssey? It was because Helen was the daughter of Zeus, who married a boorish man, unfit for her flesh and love. Hence, why she fled with Paris, and why the war broke out. Moreover, we studied Alexander the Great for two reasons, as his mother was a descendant of Helen, and in the Book of Daniel, it was told to follow the Greek Prince, after the Persian king. My God, people don-t know shit, regarding the truth to why we study what we study.\r\n

Were I am from, we do a very big ancient Greek festival that lasts for days. It's called Irea-Pythagoria and we basically recreate the wedding of Hera and Zues next to one of the biggest, if not the biggest, ancient greek temples, the temple of Hera at Heraion of Samos. it is said that this is where Hera was born! Although we do it only to attract tourists to be honest, but still.

There are no Romans Gods, dear friend. The Gods are Greek, their names in Latin are Etrurian.
The Romans took from the Greeks the notion of the Law, the first laws (Solon's, the military
and civilian organization, the alphabet, 60% of the language, the religion.
One has to wonder, is it ignorance or envy that makes you trying to denigrate the Greeks?

Jupiter and zuse are 2 different gods, same with the rest of the Greek and Roman gods. To think that they were one was a late spin twist, a Mockery by Constantine but it is fault's. The temple of Jupiter Optumis Maximus was completed by the end of the second or middle of the 3rd Punic war. Rome had its own god's and worship before it went to war on the Greeks

Mercury existed and he called himself Freddie
Why else would he have an instrument as a voice?
Mercury is the god of music
He stole from the rich and gave to the poor
Magnify the galileans image, gallileo disproved ptolemys notion that earth was the centre of the universe and named the planets after the roman gods.
Im Freddie

I-d like to add, the Romans and the various culture groups that made them did have their own systems of religion. Because of proximity they are alot of similarities with the Hellenic Gods. The Roman-s used syncretic practice with the Greek gods but the Roman Gods mostly had their own origins, distinct cultural genesis, and personalities.

Talk about religion and there are pundits from across the globe to prove that their religion is better than others and this is where animosity and hatred creeps in.
Go on fellas fight amongst yourself and fighting that's what u all can do as living in peace and with love is too hard now a days. -

I am an atheist but an agnostic atheist as opposed to an antitheist atheist i considered in my late teenage years of being a roman polytheist. But i realized though polytheists are more tolerant their is no more proof of the existence of the gods then of the judeo Christian muslim god.

Hellenist here and just a little note, Roman mythos has it's own origins, and while it was later Hellenized, their deities are not usually perfect equivalents and were not so close to Hellenic deities for most of their history.

Actually some Greeks still have ancient Greek names but don't even know the history of it. I had a Greek friend whose friend's name was Herakles, I worked with an Athena, and some others which I cannot now remember.

The book -The darkening age- tells how christianity brutally destroyed Europe's cultures. I hope that Europeans will re-embrace their own cultures and forsake this dogmatic cult that was forced upon them.

Literally the only reason someone today would believe in the old gods/practice Paganism is to just be a contrarian or different from the rest. Basically they are goth/emo kids who don't wanna be conformists.
reply

Chaire! There are many polytheists in the United States as well, myself included among them. Some honor the Norse Gods, the Egyptian, and the Greek Gods.
Feel free to shoot questions if you're interested

There is a great difference between being infatuated with the AESTHETIC of an ancient religion, as opposed to actually BELIEVING in the existence of a plethora of supernatural deities worthy of worship.
reply

Oh no, sounds like the Greek leaders of the modern take on ancient Greek religion are just like pagan larpers. Greeks were praying for world peace. Pray for victory in combat or an honorable death.
reply

Christianity is not monotheistic, it is a polytheistic religion masquerading as a polytheistic religion. It is a bastardization of Judaism (which actually IS a monotheistic religion.

I indeed loved the stories of Greek mythology & find em fascinating, but just their silly stories of why we have seasons is evidence they're just stories. Lol
reply

I don-t think any of us care to have our beliefs as a world religion, we just want folks to treasure and honor the earth and it-s forces instead of abusing them
reply

Yeah the Roman gods are just like the Greek gods
Well the names are different
And they look different
And they have different personalities

They try to make my man hades out to be evil when hes probably one of the most chill gods out there aside from the whole kidnapping Persephone thing

Nothing is more paranoid than the Abrahamic religions. Hellenic religion had to do with the power of the mind and the power of the universe.

Also a more less mention of the ancient wars, is of the fact that the two opponents shared visits with one another till their war broke out.

Polytheism in all cultures are growing rapidly, the old gods have returned and the people are turning back to them and the way of their ancestors

This is one of the trashiest videos I've seen in a long time. You sure showed us an amazing way to ruin fascinating content about the Greeks!

Thank you
I only started believing that this was real due to the city of Troya found 1991 and Achilles was in that myth -. so then is real

reply

Why does everyone have to be so mad? Religion should be an almost playful topic that we could all peacefully engage in no matter our beliefs.
reply

Yes my mother father and grandparents do and we are Americans and our heritage is German and French lol but we believe in Greek mythology
reply

I don-t understand how most people don-t believe in Zeus. After all, there-s exactly as much evidence for Zeus as there is for God. -
