Why is laughter contagious?

Why is laughter contagious?

The psychology of why we laugh, explained. Original Article Marie: Through the whole video i had to think of a comedian (Bo Burnham) who said in the ending song of his comedy special Make Happy: And if you watched this this alone, you probably didn't laugh but maybe a few times you exhaled out of your nose, because the show had a live audience but was also recorded for Netflix.
While the live audience had a blast and sometimes even cried of laughter, i - in front of my screen - couldn't feel the same, because i saw no reason in laughing out loud, if no one was there to show that i think this is funny. Though it probably was the best hour of comedy i watched so far and i rewatched it, like, 20 times.
The science of Laughing is a great topic and i wish people would be more conscious about it.

I'm sorry, but this video doesn't apply to me. If the joke is good, I laugh whether a stranger or someone I already know said it.
Plus, when I was a youngster, I barely laughed if compared to how I am now at my 30's, so the age also has not applied to me.
I have to write, it's easier for me to laugh at funny remarks than to actual jokes; back then and nowadays, I almost can't laugh if it's a told joke, NO MATTER who is telling it.
And also, group laughter isn't contagious to me if I don't know the reason of it or if it wasn't funny enough for me.

I go long periods without laughter. Stress, anxiety, anger all begin to mount and rise. Then something pops up that's funny. Usually something small and actually pretty insignificant, but something I find funny. Suddenly I begin laughing, and hard. I laugh so much I tear up and my stomach aches. Yet, suddenly my stress is gone. I think laughter is beneficial in more ways then we realize, and a good daily laugh may actually help us be more positive in life. Just a theory from my experiences.

Too bad I can't laugh much. I can feel amazed, but that's all. I can of course play like I'm laughing, but it's only for the sake of people I'm with.
Out of that, I often ask myself why I should laugh now, or envy others who can laugh easily at everything. It makes my life a lot more difficult.

When I do something embarrassing, I laugh at myself to hide the fact that I'm dying inside, but also to make the situation more relaxed. People will forget the embarrassing thing easier if you don't really care about it (or pretend not to, at least from my experience.

Thing is that I always imediately get why I laugh. Mostly it's to make someone happy or save him from awkwardness. And well. I think I actually don't laugh about the jokes themselves much, but rather meaning it as an appreciation for the person

Yo, one time a friend of mine told my group of friends and I the capitol of Montana and we all laughed hysterically for 10 minute straight. It got so bad it was difficult to breathe and we were crying. Humans are weird bro

One suggestion and request:
Change up your intro so the cutting sounds don't sound so vile.
(They personally make me feel a bit uncomfortable and I'm sure other people feel the same way)

This happened when I ran out of the school from the front doors and slipped and slammed my knee on ice. My friend laughed at me and I ended up laughing and walking away less embarrassed.

I'm sorry but this video talks mainly about why, theoretically, we laugh and its social implications. It doesn't really tackle the issue of contagious laughing regardless of the situation.

I was in class once and my buddy drops her pen and notes and whispers my life is in shambles and for some reason, this hit me really hard to the point where I giggled about it for a week.

And here I am, thinking that I rarely find laughs contagious because I don't feel like they are sincere.
Watched a bunch of your other videos.
I guess I'm just depressed.

That makes sense because i have a coworker who i cannot stand and even though his jokes are pretty funny i don't ever laugh, probably because i'm not too fond of him.

Sometimes I laugh when I hear my friends laughing even if I didn't really hear what caused them to laugh. My other friend would ask what's funny and I'm like I dunno lol
reply

I have uncontrollable laughing fits when I hear fart noises. I suppose that's just a means to hide embarrassment, but it makes it impossible to ever just sneak one out.

I laugh at a funeral of a friends cousin when I heard a little boy asked his mother if the dead cousin was closer to Hell because he was going into the ground.

I laughed really hard at memes and jokes that made fun of tragedies, only for me later to be disgusted at myself. What's wrong with me?

Jokes nowadays does not make me laugh, it offends me to the core because of of its sarcastic nature. #peopleareassholes. #iwantworldwar3

Laughing for 16 days straight? That's insane! Btw I thought that laughter is contagious because of the mirror neurones in our brain.
reply

The best kind of laughs are the ones that are silent because you are laughing so hard, but the best is the crying laugh.
reply

I'm so mad. I saw the title and just kinda giggled because the idea was implanted in my head. Maybe I just love to laugh.
reply

that wasnt realy an answer ion why is laughter contagious. It was more answer to a question why others pretend laughter
