I am a huge fan of quality. Even as a child I'd go after more expensive plushes with a good color palette and a good body structure. I didn't know the terms for those when I was younger but I have noticed in all my years that most plushies are just cheaply made or out of proportion.
In these two images, the kangaroo with the green shirt has glimmers in it's eyes making it appear more lively. That is why I had chosen that one even before any information or questions were asked. If the kangaroo with the orange shirt also had glimmers in it's eyes, I'd chosen that one because it matches the color of the kangaroo more.
I know the majority of people will not think like that, but I like this about myself.

I would question if choosing the right puppet is a sense of morality or a sense of self-preservation.
Say I see someone help another person. I then know that person is helpful and reliable. From a moral standpoint I can 1. Say that is a good person and I want to be like them. 2. Have no opinion about that person's actions or 3. See that person as useful, and therefor worth exploiting.
Babies are reliant on others to survive. It stands to reason they will gravitate towards things that accommodate that survival instinct. It doesn't mean the baby will go on to also be helpful, only that it recognizes who will be helpful to it.

Did they take into consideration that green is a more vibrant color than mustard cream and babies reached for that one because they found it more visually stimulating. They should do this experiment with no colored shirts. Perhaps no indication of good and bad bunny. In life bad and good guys don't wear a different colored clothing. Its possible you could change one to have a differnt nose or some subtle differences. But its best to go about it with no colors. Hell, I'd choose green too over mustard. They probably reach for green cause they see so much of it everyday and it was vibrant and familiar.

To be honest, like many answers to psychological questions, this could be a person-to-person (or rather, baby-to-baby) scenario. I also think that people are born with at least a little sense of morality but need someone to teach us how to act out the morality as we grow older. There are a lot of other factors that effect morality, such as the common survival instincts, environment, any pre-existing conditions, etc. (Please take what I say with a grain of salt, I'm no expert in psych, I just wanted to see what people thought of my ideas and we could possibly have a friendly discussion)

I don't think babies are born with a sense of right and wrong. I think that what ever option is less stressful for the baby, that is the option they will pick because its better for their survival. Because they can't do much, they do as much as they can to benefit themselves. And for themselves and as resilience with others, reducing stress would be the best option. So I think that when the baby saw the bunny reduce stress for the cat, they felt comfort because for them it made sense for survival (This is just an idea I'm not sure.

Morality is not so much a sense of justice but rather a construct deriving from our survival instinct. The 'morality' being observed here is most likely caused by the baby's survival instincts which prompts it to select the rabbit which is more morally correct since its actions indicate that it will bring less harm to the baby. As we grow older we start to recognise injustice by considering the situations of others (and how we would feel in their situation) which is what finally brought us to our adult sense of morality.

I've also heard there was the same experiment done but one where it was shown that the rabbits have a favorite treat (one the baby loves, and one it doesn't care for.
In this, I heard that the baby was more likely to pick the rabbit with the same interests no matter what its actions but I have yet to find that specific study.
This was also information from a long time ago so my memory might have warped it. But I do clearly remember seeing another, more in-depth experiment

I think this study doesn't detect morality, it shows that we have a natural preference towards people (or animals or anything really) that will help us survive. Cooperation is important to survival so we natural tend to like people that help others. It's not morality, it's not about write or wrong, it's about liking and preference.
To detect morality you need to detect guilt, which is problematic to do without hurting the child.

The problem with the puppet show experiment is that if the cat seems happy when the green puppet helped, babies are going to pick up on that vibe easily. They want to be happy and feel good too. If the cat seemed upset at the orange puppet, they won't want something that makes them feel on edge. If they acted those reactions out for the cat, they've enfluenced the babies' opinions, and the experiment is flawed.

You forgot to mention that in the experiment, they had two groups of children. For one group, the mean rabbit was the orange one. For the other, it was the opposite. This way, the psychologists were sure that the color wouldn't influence the babies. And guess what? No matter what color the shirt was, they mostly chose the good rabbit; -) Which means they could identify good and bad behavior

I think this story also lacks some vital context: What was in the box? Why does the cat want it? Why does the green bunny want him to have it, and why does the orange bunny not want him to have it? The morality of these characters can drastically change based on the answers to these questions and, I don't think it would be too complicated to answer these questions for the infant participants.

The baby likes the bunny that helps the cat because that bunny is more likely to help the baby and be nice to the baby then the bunny that was mean therefore rejecting the bunny that is mean because it would be mean to the baby and the baby doesnt want that so Is the baby still good because it choose the bunny that was more likely to help it

I agree all of us is born good, far from prejudges, yes environment condition our minds and create a scale in order to merge each one in society, yes as we age some use that scale to lean to their own gain, no matter if is right or wrong, keep the contact with our child minds is the only protection to be tented o lean the scale.

It's pretty obvious we can learn morality by our selves, we have empathy, and we therefore know that what hurts us, also hurt others if inflicted to them. Secondly we learn that hurting others makes them exhibit a bad response towards us, therefore we will learn to want to do good, in order to receive good behavior from others.

We are born perfect, infinite conciosness, in full connection with our true self, love. as we age in this world we learn this limited dualistic reality and it's ways. so the truth is the exact opposites of what that Russo person thinks, which is not surprising since most of this world is a backwards view on reality.

Did the person presenting the rabbit always hold a particular rabbit using the same hand?
Can baby's this age be able to distinguish color ok? Because if not, maybe the baby is just using their dominant hand, depending on which side the person holding it, to reach out for the nearest rabbit.

Possibly the baby could recognize the morals by finding similarities between the good rabbit and their mothers. Also as a baby grows older, mischief can be found funnier over time so it's possible the percentage was smaller for the older babies because some were choosing the one they found funny?

I personally think children are basically psychopaths. Like they dont care or understand how other people feel because they cant and havent learned to. Ive seen many children do harmful things to others and literally have an emotionless face.

Even 1 month exposed to society, they have to catch up to something, i still believe they learn it. To have this experiment done correctly they need to live in a white room with no contact to the outside, no smiles, no angry faces. Nothing.

But theres 2 things with thing. 1. Morality is subjective 2. Babies lie by fake crying. To consider a survival mechanism wrong isnt realistic but at the same time by human standards is still considered lying at its most basic form.

Perhaps it's a self-preservation/survival thing where the baby reaches for helpful nice doll since the baby is helpless and sees that a helpful character is more likely to ensure the baby survives and is okay?

I would like to see a replication of this experiment except the brown puppet is the one that helps the cat, and the green one inhibits it. Im actually surprised this wasnt the obvious follow-up course.
