We are family, I got all my dysfunctional members and me! Wait, that's not how the song goes! Here are 5 Types of Dysfunctional Family Dynamics psych2go: Mine is kind of like the fourth one, with my mom being the authoritiy one, and she thinks what she's doing is not harmful, but she barely gives me any praise, only yells at me. My sister doesn't help. All she does is tell mom about everything I do, even when I don't mean it. Then my mom always tells me that, because I'm smart with honors classes, that I have to become rich, and treat them to a mansion and riches. It's to much. All my teachers are leaving the school, so I have tons of substitutes, that I can't talk to. It doesn't change much, as I don't tell anyone anything. Not my parents, my siblings, my school counselor. I just can't. Whenever the time comes I always think that I don't deserve it, because of my laziness, playing games in school, and blaming myself for verbal bullying that happened to me, and just tons of shame. In any case, it's gotten worse. I suspect anxiety and atypical depression, but my mom thinks it's puberty. She's probably right. Though, most of the time I find myself crying in the bathroom, and pretending to be happy in front of her. Thank you to anyone who read this much, I probably couldn't. What should I do?

Idk what category I fall into. My dad was the scapegoat of a dominant submissive household and his dad was an addict. My mom idek she probably fits every single one of these her family is so messed up. Then me I feel like my dad is barely around and is just emotionally cut off from the family whereas my mom has a huge authoritarian vibe and is really hostile for no reason then turns around and makes me spend time with her just to tell me how bad my father is, how we have no money, how she wants to quit her job, how she hates members of our extended family that Im actually close with, all of the trauma she went through, all of her mental health struggles, and judges me a ton. I tell her that she needs to think about what shes saying and she just insists that she has a right to her opinion and she isnt gonna hide her live from her children. I wish she did. My life would be much much easier. Also she has a panic disorder and so do I sooooooo

Emotionally distant family resonates with me.
Raising me and my bros were a devout R. Catholic & her mentally repressed husband.
Her emotions only stoked from her religion;
his, from his stimulation.
So me and my bros. only attached to them through these mediums --
when non-religious and un-stimulated, our family could not attach.
chaotic also rings for Not Present.
He worked a job two hours away, eight hours each day, down and home both ways.
I wish my brothers to chime in.
we have adapted to solving our personal problems with no help.
and it's hard.

Definitely Dominant-Submissive Dynamic, without a doubt. Both parents were doctors, but father made sure to deprive mother of her career early on so that she would be easier to control, which was a tragedy, as she is the kindest, wisest, most wonderful person. The sad thing is that Ithe scapegoatseemed to be the only one who understood this, as I gave up focusing on pleasing my father early on, as I knew that it was impossible for me to do so, whereas my sisters bought into the gaslighting about her full stop.

My Parents constantly want to bring in my fun and entertainment when I'm not doing great in Grades. My Dad always brags about getting rid of my Internet or my Mom always threatening me of beating me and she does.
My Parents never bought me the things I wanted besides Clothes and Netflix.
I'm a Gamer but I don't even have a computer to play on so I have to play mobile games instead usually.
Most of these points check out too.
It's so dysfunctional. I have ended moderately depressed.

My home life is both The Dominant-submissive household and the Emotionally distant family, in the same house. My mom is the dominant parent and my dad has the same amount of authority as I do, its like my dad is another kid like me and my little brother, my family is very emotionally distant and I'm always tense when I'm at home, I look forward to going to school everyday because its an opportunity for a break from them. I don't always have that opportunity, Online Classes really suck.

I think mine is the last. As no one outside of the family got involved and I often had (what appeared on the surface ) an outgoing and charismatics personality. I was very talkative, but I think it was due to my very lonely home life for a time. When I talk it's as if my inner (narrator) is the one that is talking as my mind goes silent. It's almost like I'm talking to my self when I'm around other people but because it can be vaguely on topic I don't look to weird.

I have always been the one to do for my parents. My dad passed which left me with my mother. My sisters dont help. Mother tries guilt and flips mood She loves playing mind games. Its so draining. I feel like I need to be there and take care of her. But I cant deal. When is it ok to walk away? When do I get my life rather then just the time I get after I run crazy doing for mother? When will my life be mine.

My family is dominant dictator. my papa decides mum's and my life and puts restriction on us. now I'm fighting against him. bc now I'm not kid anymore I'm 22yrs old female who's closer to step of earning. As now I'm currently doing my higher studies. so that I can grow my dream business and be complete independent with providing my mum that freedom which she didn't recieved since her marriage.

My family was mixture of dysfunctional and chaotic family type. I begin to exhibit the sings of generalised anxiety disorder at 14 years old but no one payed attention. This led me to the spiral of additions and up to this day its hard for me to create and maintain relationships due to the disorganised attachment style. Its the living hell on earth and nobody understands it.

It's confusing because I'm from a family of 3 siblings, but technically I grew up in just a 2 sibling household, because my sister was so much older that she moved out when I was about 6.
I've always thought of my sibling dynamic in terms of the three of us, but. now I'm realising that that was not how it was when I was growing up.

I spent some of my childhood at my aunt's place and I believe that is where I got emotional trauma as a child and teen. My aunt's husband was an authoritative man and I feared him, also wasn't allowed to show my feelings especially crying I was told to toughen up and just told hurtful things. So, I don't what category that falls under.

My dad is addicted to alcohol so my mom and dad fight very often. I don't feel safe around my father. Hearing his footsteps, feeling his presence, I just feel scared. He doesn't even care about us if we ate or not, etc.
And now I'm stuck in quarantine with him and my family. I'm just 11 and I wish I could get out from the house

Hmmm Id say
Well its difficult
We never really talk and usually everyone is in their rooms or at work/school its really messy and my brothers are insanely mean to me being the youngest hmmm when I was little I got in trouble a lot causing my mom to get mad and spanking me/locking me in my room leaving me to cry so its confusing

Well I used to live in a pathological household, but now I live with my nana and papa, my mom is the main problem, and my dad cause it, by give her the things she wasn't supposed to, and now I'm mentally damaged and scarred for live I still visit them tho, I get upset thinking about it.

It's all 5 for and been going on for 10 years now I don't even know how I'm still even functioning or even feel sane. But im starting to feel myself slipping and there's nothing I can do about. it. there's no matter how hard I try to fix it. It's enterally depriving each day after the next.

Both my parents hated each other, cheated on each other, and used us 2 kids as pawns during periods of seperation and threats of divorce. Then my dad ended up murdered. Pretty sure mom did it, but whatever. 1 less hassle in my life. I cut contact with her a loooong time ago.

i belong to the chronic conflict family, chaotic household and emotionally distant family. haha i thought all along that this was normal. im aware of all their sacrifices for me and my younger siblings but they lack that one thing which is absolutely free, AFFECTION.
reply

Well. Mine's dominate-passive and distant. But don't worry guys, family isn't by blood, it's by choice. I may have to live like my blood is my family, but when I'm not around them, I can act however I want. This probably doesn't make sense but it was nice to get out.
reply

My family is number 4.
My dad is the dominant while my mom is the submissive in it. My mom ends up being depressed and very pessimistic and I feeling burned out. If it wasn't for my friends, I would still be pessimistic.

reply

well is it poosible to have all 5 combined? because i can give clear examples of all 5 in my home life over the 12 years this happened to me that i remember before i moved out:
reply

this makes me sad, dealing with a dysfunctional family has made me feel unseen, and unloved. I dont talk much to people about my family because its such a touchy subject.
reply

My dad would tell me that if I started to cry that he wants me to go in a different room and cry or if I didnt stop crying and he will give me something to cry about
