5 Bad Habits Distort The Way You Think

5 Bad Habits Distort The Way You Think

FBTwitterReddit

video description

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Thoughts alone are not as powerful as often portrayed. It is when we consciously feed or engage with it that it gains power. This key point is what differentiates a thought from a cognitive distortion. Cognitive distortions are not thoughts. They are ways of thinking we actively engage in, sometimes unknowingly. Persistent cognitive distortions can worsen or create mental health issues. Fortunately, distorted thoughts are habits, and we can learn to change them by becoming aware of them

Omg number 5 is a big one, every single time I do something I coulda done better or differently I get so anxious and mad cuz I always think UGH IF I WOULDVE DONE THIS IT COULDVE MADE THINGS SO MUCH BETTER, but thats life yk, so we have to learn to be able to just improve on the wrong decisions we make and just do better each day and improve on things, thats why we make mistakes, so that we can learn from it and get better

Im constantly overthinking, and I know Ive dealt with and still deal with these points. Its hard to take notice of them in the moment, but when I start overthinking I go outside, take a breather and take in everything around me. Sometimes it doesnt end on a good note but it never ends in a bad one either. It at least stops me from thinking negatively and such and thats good enough for me for the moment

One of the things I learned is it's not always going to be a choice to not listen to or believe someone, but more like a fight, & that's one of the reasons you want to be mentally armed. One example is if you're in a seriously verbally & psychologically abusive relationship, especially if it's extremely difficult to get out of. Another is if your fellow co-workers are like this.

Over-generalization can also be used to distort the way we think about other people based on our view of one (or a few) bad individual(s. (Example: You see a few white people being racist, so you then think that all white people must be racist. OR You see a few Police Officers brutalizing an individual, so you then think that all Police Officers engage in 'Police brutality')

The people who most need to hear these things are the ones who will never listen. They are the ones to call this psycho-babble and dismiss it to avoid any real changes or improvements. These are the lost causes. Just focus on your own mental and emotional health. And support those who wish to change as much as you can.

It helped a lot. Maybe in the years to come, 5 or more, I will come back and tell you how it worked.

Could you please make a video on how I could re wire my mind probably without a therapist. I have been hard wired to believe these things from childhood that's now giving me trust issues and fear of inadequacy which I really want to get over but can't afford a therapist.

I see a lot of psychology videos talking about how pessimism, nihilism and cynicism are examples of distorted thinking. But I've yet to see any that answer the important question: How do we know that it's not optimism and positive thinking that's the distortion?

Dating apps ARE a bad idea for men. I did a quick simulation and if 70 percent of users in a dating app are men (which usually is even more, then you are 98 percent likely to date someone who is less attractive than you (if we could put attractiveness on a scale)

I've always (not overgeneralizing, I really do mean always) disliked labels and prejudices. Each person, situation, and moment is unique unto itself. and while I've learned to work with patterns, I'm always looking for anomalies.

This are small details in your vid but at 0: 48 the mask Psi is wearing is Hawkmoth from Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir? And at 1: 45 'Your mind is like a soundboard' That's Venti from Genshin Impact on the left?
reply

With regard to labeling, you typically develop a heuristic over time based on past experience that is used to act as a filter for people. When you assume wrong about someone, you just tune your heuristic more.

Oh well, i've got all of those habits. Quite unfortunate for me. But, I am eager to fix these bad habits of mine. Let's just be positive and stop overthinking (quite hard, but, yeah)
