Why do we feel lonely in a world where there are billions of people? In a world where we are more connected than ever, why is the suicide rate increasing, and mental health declining? One of the reason is because we are less willing to talk to people face to face. Without that face to face connection, we don't truly get the endorphins we need to feel good. What do you think is causing the loneliness epidemic, and people to feel lonely? Do you have tips to help your fellow community members overcome loneliness? Just remember YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I was the only daughter and i have like visible age gap with my three brothers. my mom and dad both used to work cz we didn't even have a roof over our head. my mom used to work as a maid in houses and we used to live in those houses. it was a rich people society so everybody mind their own business and dont really interact among neighbourhoods. i was a really shy and introverted kid who didn't have any friends even when i was in school, i had pretend friends who i never felt comfortable with and that continued till my college and now I'm in university and got two friends but now i don't want to make any friends, i feel like breaking friendship off with them cz i don't feel comfortable, i always feel intimidated by people around me and those includes my own family amd friends and the reason is i can't share my whole self with them, my past dark secrets with them, my life with them. I don't feel comnected with my parents and now i feel like I'm losing my feeings for my parents, I'm starting to grow hatee for them in my heart. i hate it that I'm so different, I'm socially awkward, i have severe public speaking phobia, i have anxiety, i overthink even the littlest things a lot, I'm becoming rebellious, I'm becoming rude towards my parents, I'm wasting my time on social media all the time intentionally, and that people's opinions about me matters a lot to me, a lot more than it should to an unhealthy level

In the silence of solitude, I find my retreat,
A lonely echo, in this vast expanse so complete.
Existence, a solitary journey I undertake,
In a world where connection seems so hard to make.
Loneliness, a constant companion by my side, In the depths of longing, where my heart resides.
Aching for warmth, for a touch, for a voice,
Seeking solace, in a world where I have no choice.
The bustling streets, filled with faces unknown,
Each passing moment, a reminder I'm on my own.
The laughter and chatter, a distant melody,
Leaving me adrift, longing for company.
The stars above, distant and cold, Like fragments of hope I cannot hold.
I wander through the night, a solitary soul,
Seeking solace in the emptiness that takes its toll.
But amidst the solitude, a spark of light,
A realization that loneliness does not define my plight.
For within me, a strength begins to grow,
To embrace my existence, to let my spirit show.
I find solace in solitude's gentle embrace,
Discovering beauty in each moment's grace.
In the depths of my being, a world unfolds,
With creativity and dreams waiting to be told.
Loneliness may linger, but it does not define,
The essence of my being, my soul's design.
For within this existence, a purpose I'll find,
In the depths of my loneliness, strength will bind.

Growing up, I had my fair share of close friendships. I had the same friends growing up, the same best friend for years. Coming into high school that changed. They were branching off towards other people and I tried my fair share of branching off but it always felt wrong. I felt like I didn't belong. I always felt forgotten and disposable. When there were plans made I would be the after thought. When I would pity myself and be fed up with being lonely I would try to reach out. I would be met with cancelled plans or just being ignored.
I blame myself. I closed myself off from everyone and they forgot about me and they thought I didn't care about them.
I have a wonderful relationship, I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for them; I'm still lonely and I feel guilty. I have an amazing partner and I feel lonely. I yearn for at least a best friend, something like I had growing up.
I try so hard to be liked by everyone, I go out of my way to be nice and do favors for them so I'm not forgotten. I don't want to be thrown away again.
I find it so hard to keep conversations sometimes because I'm not used to it. I'm hoping that this era of loneliness finally goes away. I just want a friend. I want to be able to text them memes and eat sandwiches with. Maybe juice. Idk.

It's funny how I used to say I would never hate myself, and now I do.
I try to make people loved and wanted because I know what it's like not to feel loved and wanted.
And whenever I do, my 'friends' say that I'm so nice and starts paying attention to me, but then after the next day, they return back to ignoring me, and I just hang around by myself, playing and watching video games to distract my loneliness, my family hates it, but they don't understand.
And reading these comments and seeing that they're so many other people who experience such thing makes me so sad, because we all don't deserve to be depressed and lonely, we all deserve to have someone who cares about us. But sadly, that's not how life works.
Sometimes I question my sanity and if all of these negative and loneliness are just apart of my mood swings and me just being dramatic.
The saddest thing is when you are feeling down, you look around and realize that there is no shoulder for you to lean on.
The kindest people
are the lonely ones
Like a shooting star
A brief flash of beauty
granting wishes to those awake to see
but destined to soar alone

I love you all.

My experience with loneliness? Well, I'd say it started around middle school. I'd returned to my hometown, and was living with my grandfather. The man was so obsessed with making me archive an ideal life that he forbade me from having any friends. I had to study, study, study. Only things I could do other than studies was skills that he could show off to every irrelevant idiot who looked our way. Naturally, my social skills tanked, it became harder to interact with people, my social skills tanked further.
now here I am. 25. all alone. don't even have the guts to talk to my roommate because I'm expecting it to blow up in my face.
I've been numbing for over a decade now. First, with playing outside to the point I'd regularly get heat strokes, then it was video games, and now it's food.
My health has definitely tanked, my grades are awful, and now that my coping skills are taken away, I'm just sitting here, feeling this crushing sense of loneliness. Part of me yearns for someone to sit next to me, give me a hug and tell me it'll all be ok. and the other part of me doesn't know where I could find someone like that.

I've always mainly been alone didn't matter if you know like actually being with somebody or not, mentally emotionally psychologically in every way it's like why is it that difficult to be with someone like that outside of social media never works out and I'm not going to be going over to anybody's home, no I'm not doing it anymore way to many bad experiences from it. And I don't like to be around a lot of people when I'm in a funk you know what I'm saying like nothing against just in a mood from being hurt to many time's. I'm tired of it I'm so beyond tired of it. And I don't want some hateful person in my account

I respect your opinion. But I believe Science And Psychological Mind Evolves around God. We cannot separate the the three. Both go hand and hand. Every good aspect of nature or Morality Reveals some Characteristics of Gods love. Because its impossible for the universe to be created out of nothing. And It is impossible To do good without A higher level of consciousness above yourself. This Is why atheism Is idiotic. We are broken Sinful creatures. Only the grace of God can help and satisfy us.

Ive felt lonely for years. My childhood friends lead lives of their own. We stay in touch, but get together or talk on the phone rarely. As an adult its hard to make friends. I think Ive made one friendship after 25 years of age (Im 57. I go out socially maybe once or twice a year, if Im lucky enough to be remembered and invited. Some years I have no social events. I have a wife and lots of animals, but there is a hole even they cant fill. Its just so depressing.

I just cant take it, Im so sad, all the time, I forgot once I do something, but then I just feel it again afterwards. Im trying to be a better person, and Ive worked on things that werent good about me. Started to work out, started praying more and being more religious, but im so lonely, I was with someone I gave my all to, and they left, so it hurts even more. Ive always been like this even before her, Ive lost a lot in life, and I just wanna be happy.

I can relate strongly with all 7 signs I tried to get me out of by joining the gym, talking to people about it, cooking.
They worked for a while then eventually all fall
The people I can talk to about my feelings think I'm just overeating on small things
I felt so overwhelmed that I couldn't workout or cook
I am trying to get out of this loop but I stuck here
I can't act normal or talk to people normally anymore

reply

his all sounds well and good, but I've never actually had any friends.
I grew up always being pushed aside to allow for time for other people.
My needs and wants were always an afterthought. No one listened to me or valued my opinion.
I am isolated from other people and unable to get out and meet anyone.
I can't seek help as doing so would inconvenience others around me.
I honestly don't know what to do. :(

In the video, it said that overdoing things was a sign of deep loneliness. Are any big brain folks out there that could answer this, could under sleeping be a sign of deep loneliness as well? I suppose it could be that someone's brain cannot turn off or someone is anxious about the next day or maybe they are just so numb they don't even feel like they need as much sleep as others do.

This was a surprise for me. I knew I was a bit lonely, but I didn't realise it was that obvious. I thought it was just a feeling I would get during the weekends, but apparently according to this, it bleeds out everywhere. Always feeling exhausted, my room is always a mess, my self care dips often, every task seems a mission, always spending time doing nothing.
Hmmm.

reply

Yea, I always feel kind of empty. I don't have many friends and I am not good at being social. I'm 20 and have never been a relationship, everyday I come home after work it only feels like that emptiness grows. I want to be social with people and have a relationship ship but I have no idea how, I can't just walk up to some random people and make conversation.

I'm so lonely. No gf, no friends, I'm trying but no one cares about me, they just ignores me. It hurts, I see people having fun and enjoying their lives and here I am all alone wasting time doing nothing, what can I do? Sometimes I just go out alone but I feel so weird. I wish I had someone next to me that really loves me

Ive always felt like this since i was about 7, i know nothing else. Ive always tried for connection but i guess since i grew up with nobody i didnt learn basic social cues. At this point im 22. I am however trying to overcome it. But its hard when people dont understand why i am the way am.

I watched another video on loneliness recently. In this video, they said that people should go and try to alleviate other peoples loneliness and in that way it will lessen your own. So rather than thinking, what can gain from this meeting, reframe it so as to help someone else.
reply

I've never had a friend in the entirety of my brief almost 13 year old life, so ya I am undoubtedly lonely, it's always been one of the things that define me. I clicked this video to see how much things I could relate with and I pretty much related with everything.

No one to talk to alone being with no one with me not able to take care of my house or keep up forgetting to do the real stuff cant get out Feeling rejected from people that used to like me dont get to do my interests just about everything Im hardly even checked on
reply

I dont ifs its due to loneliness or other traumas but one sure that I think at the end of the day everytime is that No ones going to be there for me when I need it the most. and I must be there for myself when I need someone the most. Dont know if that makes sense.
reply

I have all the above mentioned symptoms and I dont know what else to do. I dont see any purpose of this life anymore from being bullied in school to being bad student in college, having no progress in carrier to being left all alone. I guess this is how life is!
