3 Ways Parents Can Crush Your Self-Esteem
video description
Curiously, it was my brother (8 years older) who was very critical of me, who frequently found fault in what I was doing, who cast doubt on my talents, and often cautioned me about my abilities and ambitions, that maybe I wasn't capable of something I was about to attempt.
Fortunately I ignored him.

My parents pressured me to go to college to become something in computer programming or computer hardware engineering. After one semester of the slow motion, mind numbing, money draining, living death, college, which insisted on me taking religious study and sociology as requirements before I even started what the electives were, I dropped out with no remorse. Then I decided to live my life, not my parent's expectations. Today, I make over three times the income any computer programmer, computer IT technician, network administrator, or anything to do with computer worker makes, without a degree. They are not too happy with me for not really going to college, not having a degree, not being someone of prestige. But I have zero debt, save for my remaining mortgage. I have no credit cards, no bank account, no loans, just utilities and four more years of mortgage. I win, without a degree, and without wearing a tie!

When I was a child, my parents strive with me for as long as they could at school to learn and get good grades but they were also critical at the same time, like every time when I got a bad grade, especially on tests, I was punished for a day or more depending on the severity of the situation. My longest punishment was for a month of not using my computer while I was on 8th year while I was preparing for exams. And nowadays because of this, I feel like I struggle myself to find a job that matches my skills and as well as it pays just enough because my mom enforces me to set unexpected goals and still fail over it even if I tried.

Wow. Anyone else love & respect your parents. even though they weren't perfect & neither was your childhood?
I'm beyond sick of the current-day victimhood culture.
My parents tried really hard to give me & my sisters everything we needed & wanted whether it was social, emotional, spiritual, physical or financial. We didn't have a lot but we were always loved & supported--- even though my parents occasionally lost their tempers & said regrettable things! No one is perfect.
Stop blaming your parents & childhood for everything.

Wow, as expected I have a 3/3.
I've pretty much given up studying because I constantly hear how I'm in the bottom of the class, how if I were to put any kind of effort I'd be smarter, how everyone else has better grades and whatnot. I'm getting anxious because now that I'm 17 it means I expect to be booted out once I turn 18
I really wish they knew english so I can slip them the vid

It was always teachers belittling my ideas for example my dream job is owning a lego store, every time we had to explain what we wanted to do I was always told legos are for kids or you ll never get that far it made me feel so bad about my interests I didn t think about legos for 3 and a half years. Today I m doing my best to save up money so I can start that dream.

My parents pushed me to excel in school and college. I ve got a good career but it is clear that school these days is worth less than what it was. My son doesn t like school or get the best grades but he wants to go to trade school. He is good with carpentry so I support him following his passion.

I appreciate this video cuz when I had dreads my dad wanted me to take them out, he never really liked them unless I got them colored or retwisted, and then when my grandma tried to retwist my hair and messed up, I took em out and my dad was congratulating me like I wanted to do it

My parents push me to get all As and when I get anything else they treat it like a problem I need to fix, I've become focused on good grades and get all As but have trouble making meaningful relationships because my parents drilled it in me that I have to be perfect to be liked

My mom and dad said I could stream videogames as long as I both have a normal job (I. e. work full / part time) and have top grades even in college. I gave up entirely and have no motivation or passion for anything anymore

My parents didn't offer me any real support. I learnt early on that I should motivate and support myself so at least their criticism didn't have lasting effects on me. What affected me most was the physical and emotional abuse.

i had ta stop this video short. my adoptive parents're both NARCISSISTS. i don't BELIEVE they had good intentions, initially in adopting me. so i got CRUSHED by them, but that was their original, deliberate intention.

Disagree with criticism. Of course too much is bad, but too little is also bad. You don t want to raise a shard of nervous glass, nor do you want to raise an asshole who expects everything to go their way.

I was told I would either be in the C Suite or homeless. Either ultimate success or crushing failure were the options. I already did the failing part, I m getting closer to the top.

In my opinion, the childhood of a person has a huge impact on their whole life, and it's great for parents now and in the future to learn from mistakes like this.

The worst thing a parent can do is belittle you, even when you re doing your best. To blame you for things outside of your control.
