Back before everyone got all their news for free on the internet, people bought newspapers. And those newspapers were typically sold by kids called newsboys or newsies. But at the end of the 19th century, two of the wealthiest media tycoons in the country tried to fatten their wallets by unfairly cutting into the newsies' already meager earnings, which led to the newsboys' strike of 1899. Here's the crazy story of what really happened

bUt HeArSt aNd PuLiTzEr AnD bEzOs eArNeD ThEiR mIlLiOnS. Newsies successfully defeated the greedy tycoons because they were SUPPORTED by the public voting with their money until Hearst and Pulitzer made changes. Stop supporting Amazon until Bezos gives his workers fair wages and better working conditions. We can vote with our money.

They had more balls than most of us now who take pay cuts, security cameras at work and hallways, hard jobs with extended shifts, no pays, no food, cut brakes, increasesed production, health risk etc. For a minor profit by the company's who earn more than enough to give our essential workers a livable wage.

It's not a surprise when big Tycoons aka Big Brands steal business money from Local businesses. This should be taught and understood how money is the root of all evil. Instead of serving the customers, you cheat on them to serve yourselves.

Genius! I always trust a child. When I want to assess what is going on in a situation that involves a child I watch the child. They will always show you the truth in their actions. Maybe not their words but their actions.

My grandfather was a New York newsy. He said that they fought each other for territory. He had to fight so much that he later became a professional boxer. So it is pretty cool that they managed to unite at all.

6: 40 when you think about it the news companies are benefiting just as much as the boys because now that the boys arent afraid of buying too much they will never runout that means more sales for the companies.

I love this musical so much! Seriously underappreciated and it's a crime. It's also MUCH better than the Broadway spin off (though I'm grateful the success has brought more attention to the original film.

They didnt actually.
The 2 men got ahold of the child labor union. They knew that would stop them.
So they gave in just to look good while they dropped new laws.

The story is great but i mean. Did the newsboys really win? Shortly after Heurst and Polizer lobbied for child labor laws and abolished their entire job industry.

They should make a movie on this subject. (that is if they haven't already) Something i would definitely watch. better yet a series would be even better.

Modern day American Republicans (2020 mind you) would side with the police against the protesters & call the wage swiping an acceptable practice.

Nice. Those boys fought for what they wanted, that's the American way. I don't know what way we're following today. I kinda wish it was the ninja way

I was coming from good for the Newsboys at least take hot out their ways I've got the remote to the cops are there Harris and I see you soon as I'm smoking

This story seems weird to me. I was a paper boy, there where no unions back then. I made all the money a twelve year old could want. So once again weird.

You should do another video about the leaders of the kids and where they ended up in life after growing up. I think it would be an interesting video
