The problem with religion is it is govern by humans, not god or angels or even demons. Faith is a construct which frees religion on the burden of proving the validity of its teachings merit. While I wouldn't call myself an atheist, I would only convert if GOD himself delivers the message. If that means I would be the first to be smite upon his return as punishment for not having faith, I would except it and ask forgiveness. It would resolve my conclusion that religion is a human construct that was created to instill control on a reality fill with uncertainty and then later used by individuals to gain power over others. The most successful con ever created, if only it wasn't filled act of atrocities that are carried out as just in the name of it's deity and are the source of hate between people.

Did not know the origins of the 'Hell Mouth. ' I had thought that the notion had been borrowed from the BCE Egyptians' religion, who had an enormous monster of a crocodile that would eat you up if you did not know the precise incantation to ward it away during your evening's 12 position trip through the underworld. This applied only to the Pharaohs, but later to everyone else because as physical money came into the realm (the idea of standardized gold or silver coins started in modern day Turkey about 700 BCE, money became more acceptable as certain favors or understandings could have been purchased or rented. Imagine that. Found out about this last on several of PBS' documentaries. So. in the public mind.

Im an atheist. A happy go lucky, whoever has faith of any kind are absolutely fine by me kinda atheist. Twice in the past 6 months I have been harangued by someone to join their religion: once on my doorstep and the other in a taxi. I dont, would not, think about harassing strangers to join me in my atheism.

It is truly sad what the Catholic's did to people. I thank God for the Christian men who faced a horrible death to bring the reformation, and freedom from the false teachers in Catholicism, may they RIP.
