If we told you there was a man who fought through wars, survived the un-survivable, and married into two of the most esteemed wealthy families of the 18th century, you might think it was a particularly unrealistic movie plot. But it isn't - it's the life story of a very real person, who also happens to be one of the most notorious con men to ever run a racket.

White collar crime. Two things we deal with today white collar crime aided and abetted by the phenomenon that says lies travel faster and farther than truth. Like telling people your election was stolen and taking top secret documents to sell to heads of state. That guy has red hair too. That's a con man for ya. Brokering information to sovereign governments about other sovereign governments used to be called espionage and you had to be a registered agent working on the behalf of said country. Or you could just call yourself president. Being ironic its 100% illegal there is no protection for anyone who sells government secrets but they call you a foreign Actor which means spy. Now lets go play golf.

He would have made a great Politician in USA. Sounds like John Kerry. Conniving while in Vietnam for bravery medals, then testifying against the war, pretending to be Irish Bostonian but a Jew, and then marrying the widow of his former colleague, the dead Senator Hines of Pennsylvania to marry into Hines ketchup fortune. Then of course running for president of USA, after losing still always a reusable and reliable member of evil to core Democrat party.

Shuffled off to the great con in the sky.
-I can only interpret this to mean that when MacGregor showed up at the pearly gates, St. Peter said, There is a special gate for you to enter at the bottom of these stairs. Watch that first step down, it's a doozy.

Umm, I'd just like to answer that final question with a small point that dude would HAVE to be charming to succeed as a con artist or find someone to do that part for him since there's no accomplice, he's both.

It's incredible that he lead all those men to safety through the murder swams in what would make him a millitary legend, then later he abandoned all his men to an likely death.
reply

Died at 58 years old? I must admit you sure did a lot in a very short period of time.
With quite a few similarities, he would be the modern day version of Bill and Hillary.

In those days, conning people for things like foreign land and gold was widespread, it really preyed on the buyer's greed and their imagination.

The most despicable con-man in history: anyone who tries to sell you a fairytale for 10% of your income. Then he molests your kid

Guy should have run for public office. With his penchant for swindling money and lying, he'd make an outstanding politician.
