I kept waiting for it to be talked about but, no such luck. So, long-term cosmic radiation is not a -thing- anymore? Neither the Hermes, the HAB nor the astronaut suits looked -acceptably safe- from those deadly charged particles without the deus ex machina of sci-fi -radiation deflector shield- thingy and it's a long way from Earth's protective ozone layer.

While this probably comes with the territory, I would take away the fact that Ridley Scott is a pain-the-ass-client who shortens their schedule, shoots inefficiently, and still forces the post production company to rescue their project in a shorter timeframe. Shows me that Framestore and MPC are incredible companies.

they could have used the gopro clean hdmi out plugged to the back of the actor a recorder like atomos shogun, then they can key out the cable in post that way they avoid h264. or just ask gopro to make special cameras for the movie not using custom firmware that records uncompressed prores.

I like the movie BUT it was definitely Science Fiction. I'm sure NASA is F. laughing there ass off as to the ridiculous ideas and stunts that studio thought were even plausible. One Big mistake. You NEVER space walk with out a safety harness.

Just noticed a movie mistake. at 3: 14 you can see some dirt inside Lewis' helmet. now obviously, there's no way that could happen on Mars, would mean a breach in the suit and she'd be dead. Seems like the crew and VFX team missed this one

I am trying to find what song is used during scene six of this movie The Martian. It has piano sound to it and it is why Mark Watney is in the space suit out his habitat on Mars. Scene 6 beginning Audio music? Can't find it.

All the wireframes, set extensions, particles and effects including compositing, just blew my head off especially they have to replace the visor digitally in post production. --

This is my personal favorite movie of all-time. And I doubt any movies will beat it (on my list) for a long time, if ever. Before this, it was Amadeus.

When VFX artists do their job poorly, they get so much flak thrown at them.
When they do their job well, nobody even notices.
