video description

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
A 1960s space-race drama. Anomaly by Dan Difelice & Salomon Ligthelm More About Anomaly: Set against the space-race canvas of the 1960's, Anomaly is inspired by the traditional Christmas Nativity and explores, through a modern-day lens, the events of two-thousand years ago. It is a story about relationships that intertwine around an unprecedented astronomical event, as a couple navigate life's realities at a time of unfathomable significance. Filmed on location in NYC, Maine, Kansas, and Colorado, the film features Christian Cooke, Lexi Johnson, Andrew Sensenig, and Anthony Lopez

I like short films, I like complex movies, emotionals, I like the nouvelle vague, so I wasn't expecting an MCU blockbuster. But this movie seems artificially complicated and it seems that the complexity is there to hide emptiness. Ok, we have different timelines interconnected somehow. The dialogues from another time and space are supposed to express something about the visual we have. But along with cryptic mix of dialogues and images, we have a lot of exposition and cheesy lines that seems unatural. There is too much melodrama and what I call the Disney trick: you let think a character is dead to make the public cry and then he is alive (Baloo the bear in the Jungle book for example. She died giving birth and oh suprise she is alive beacuse of the mystical light.
If the message was Love of two persons is like one single heart beating for two and they saved each other (meteor shower for him, cardiac arrest for her, well, it failed to amaze me.
I suspend my belief about the science and consider this as just poetry: comet entering and leaving the atmosphere (I don't want to imagine the chemical effect, surviving the meteor storm in a tiny spacecraft (you just need a bolt to make a hole in the hull: cinetic energy at that speed can do a lot of damage, using a regular radio borrowed from the Nasa to communicate, I guess the FBI and the CIA were too busy monitoring the frequencies (if we supposed the signal was strong enough.
I am usually amazed by short films and how they can create a fascinating and compelling story in a condensed way. Sometimes in just 10mn. Here, we had 36 too long minutes full of sounds and images, signifying nothing to paraphrase Mc Beth (act V scene V)

Yep. As I thought. I've just re-watched it, and sure enough, it's a doggone masterpiece. One of the most beautiful things I've seen on DUST, really. I thought I'd give it a few weeks. Ended up forgetting about it altogether for a year. I'm not altogether content and/or at ease now, but I know that a year ago today things were a little more challenging than they are now. Time is an amazing thing. It's almost as if another person altogether left my previous comment. There' a bit of a meditation on the nature of time and our relationship with it in there to boot. Thank you, Dan Difelice, Salomon Ligthelm and everyone else who so masterfully transformed this 36-minute canvass of chaos into the intriguing opus it is, and thank you, DUST, for showing it to us. Y'all are the bomb.

Halfway through I started watching this at 2x, and I missed NOTHING.
Cut out the old space B-roll, and the long agonizingly long drawn out exposition scenes, this would've been like 4 minutes long.
I feel like the dude that was in charge of this just went with his gut, and wanted to make this baby. He didn't listen or put himself in the position of a person having to sit and watch this.
I'm sure if the creator did, upon seeing it, their spouse would say, What the 'duck' is taking you so long to get to the point All that, and nothing happens!

I guess I’m one of the few in the comments that loved this. It’s may have not been straight forward but a lot of things in life aren’t. We live in a day and age where we just want to be entertained and not have to think. This was outside the box and refreshing to see. Try watching it again and let the story take you away without any judgment or thought. Ofc there are things I don’t like but overall I thought it was a beautifully shot and scored filmed that made me think throughout.

Those photos are from my teen years and what a time to be alive. I visited Europe in 1975 and it was the first time I has ever seen a homeless person and that was in France. In the 1960 Seattle was the city that was like a modern dream. It was the panicle of American cities, modern and beautiful. Look at it now, look at what people have done it it. Fifty years and what did we do with all that prosperity Put it up our noses and into our veins. P. S. crappy video don't waste your time.

Flawed and frustrating because it promises so much and yes it delivers on some basic archetypal human truths but at the cost of believability. Thousands of tales tell the same story of human emotion yet do so without asking us to believe some thing that we cannot believe and to ignore the giant crater or black hole should I say at the center of the (broken) story line. Skillful You bet. Evocative In spades. Is that enough No. No it isn’t.

Nothing there. And as a photographer, you lost me when the girl starts taking SLR viewfinder shots with a Polaroid 90, which she doesn't pull to advance, and hands to the man, who doesn't focus before shooting, and still doesn't pull the film forward. On a dreary day when 400 film would barely serve. And when Polaroid didn't make 400. Nice footage, though. Were you planning on writing more than two pages

Deep Message, right on the surface. December 23, during an era when we were on the brink of annihilation. a child comes from a relationship where they didn't do anything. Ths scientist was Noel Fitz'. The scientists wife was analog to Martha, mother of John the Baptist. so I see this as the Christmas story, told in a fresh way. A bit on the nose, but a Christmas story nonetheless.

3: 05 Original Polaroid camera:
1. There is no shutter release on the body, it's a small lever out near the lens.
2. You don't take another shot without pulling the tab to start the developing process on the first one and advancing the film for the next one. His second shot would result in the first one being ruined in a double exposure.

IN THE BEGINNING dust was a struggling pretty good start.
why somehow it has devolved into making, movies with no end and a promise of more,
movies that make absolutely no sense, and movies of some idiots thoughts of half truths.
i dont know how many people will keep watching these brainfarts with no rationale.

It is sad that a movie that is self explanatory is so hard for everyone to understand. Very intuitive I thought, then again I grew up with movies very much like this in the 70’s ( 2001, which left my mother totally confused. This is made to make you think not just be a passive viewer, something most people are too used to.
reply

I dont really get it. So much comments about wow its good, its brilliant but no, its not brilliant at all compared to other DUST videos which i can follow and enjoy. The plot is all over the place. I think this is one of those movies that critics will give a high score but total crap to an ordinary viewer
reply

I have that same camera the girl was using in the beginning and it is actually a Polaroid camera, the lens pops out when you open the front and the button to take the picture isn't on the very top it pops out with the lens just on the inside of the door that swings open. It's actually pretty cool

Is his radio BROKEN or something

I really love these videos, but I'm sad to see how much the frequency of ads has increased. I guess it's only natural, but I was hoping they would keep the ads to a minimum like they did for the first few years. Gotta pay the bills I guess!

Thumbs down. I have absolutely no clue as to what this was about. Cannot endorse the writer or the director of this. Dramatic, but irrelevant A series of unrelated subplots or whatever. I like the music, but I wish I hadn’t wasted my time

I was a toddler when we were first orbiting the Earth and 10 when we walked on the moon. I was but 4 when JFK passed but listening to him here, I do remember him. Dad did a great imitation of him and Bobby Kennedy.

I think I'm a bit late to the party with this one, but I just have to say that this is an utterly brilliant, beautifully constructed film! My hat's off to everyone involved in its production. Really, stunning work!

Incels lament their pathetic plight, They shoot all the way to space but still avoid coitus. A big mysterious comet can't even fix their pathetic situation. The Earth still abides due to normal people
reply

This was agonizingly slow with an ending that did not make a good conclusion. It must be the director's cut. It could be improved by a good editor, but the ending would still be unsatisfactory.
reply

sorry, it was a bit boring. Nothing happened in concrete during five minutes straigth. In the end i was just pressing rigth key over and over. 36 minuts could be resumed in 2 or 3 minutes of action.
reply

The story seems to be very focused on one couple and the pregnancy. Personally I find it a contradiction that a sci-fi story would be focused on the most instinctive aspects of humans.
reply

This actually could have been compelling if not for the weird Arrival vibes and shit that doesn't make any sense. Just talk about the comet and whatnot, would have been 100% better.
reply

DUST content oscillate between hidden gems and total trash. This was firm in the latter. This is what we get when someone with a camera tries too hard to be a profound artist.
reply

cuckold in space lol. someone should write a book about it, we can fill it with other fairy tails and have the kid be the protagonist. just need to come up with a tragic ending.
reply

Why do these sci fi shorts always seem to have that droning and nerve shredding non ending music. Not even like music. Just a continuous chord for 52 measures.
reply

6 minutes in and I'd had enough. Voice over narration on love Seriously Flowers blooming Seriously You don't do this sort of thing unless you can actually write.
reply

Incredible cinematography, fx, sound, build up, etc. But, Huh Wish I could parse a simblance understanding out of it that connects things better for me.

Trying to copy big movie makers like Stanley Kubrick. Big fail. Must be a woman. Try being original or please continue to flip burgers at McDonald’s.
reply

Uh, not really sure what just happened. Can’t say I really enjoyed this one.
And I thought Selene was a dude for the first 10 min.

Way over acted melodrama O. D. and sooooooo slow its hard to keep track of whatever this story was supposed to be. garbage.
reply

The sound is horrible! One minute it's so quiet you have to crank the volume and the next is blowing the speakers on the TV.
reply

What Whos baby was that And so many other questions, great film but i need a whole movie now because i need answers man.
reply

I think this story was about how anomaly is sometimes just a scientific word for a miracle. Or maybe the other way round.
