237 years after mankind's extinction, an android longs for a past it can never experience. To Err by Derek Romrell Connect with the Filmmaker: Director's Statement: I think nostalgia is cyclical. By yearning for a place that never truly was, we leave the present, which becomes a new rose-colored past. To Err explores that circle from the perspective of an android who has no past, and therefore falls in love with deceased persons' nostalgia. This short is a love letter to religious, think-y sci-fi films like THX-1138 and Blade Runner. My hope is that To Err makes you stop and think, particularly about where a longing for better times is taking you. This was a thought-provoking short! It says to me, that when we sit in our comfort, we tend to want to know what else is out there. That something that soarked our interest, we want to experiment it! But when it is time to actually live the famtasy, we retreat into our comfort zone! That is what I got out of it because it is so relatable to me!

Very nicely done. Both a story and good acting. Tough to react but not react as an actor. ;-) Nit picking things - how can road be there outside the lift after humans have been gone so long Perhaps an animal path would have made more sense. And in general Aspen trees are not near the sea. If that was indeed and Aspen stand.

Hi Derek, congrats.
Nice acting, no doubt. Particularly interesting intimate message.
The amazing onyx sands of the beaches of Benijo and the recognizable 'cambric shadow' of one of the jewels belonging to the Anaga Biosphere Reserve. Can it be so, maybe.
Enjoyable 19: 55 work in any case.

Finally we get a short that has a plot and dialogue. This was really good. The androids were training and training and soon began to long for what wasn't being trained. They went looking and found what was and one of them was underwhelmed. just like humans.

The longing for better times is a paradox. How can we preserve the legacy of a past that we never experienced Perhaps it is the unfulfilled emptiness that keeps us clinging to the idea that it was once better, even though it never was for us.

I have had the chance to meet and work with some of the people involved in this film. You can definitely see the love, commitment, and passion that they put into every project they do. Felicidades, Amazing job!

But humans are not birds. they are not trying to reproduce an authentic bird experience. Humans identify with place. If there was no new class inbound, that was a very nice home near both the woods and the seaside.
reply

Very well done, especially as it leaves you wondering what happened in the end. Did he err in going back and get shutdown or did he leave and go back to the beach The Jolson song adds to the mystery.
reply

This was really enjoyable - seeing the amount of people involved in making this work is quite overwhelming but I am glad you made this, the talent and thought required makes for a promising future
reply

This is how life is Sometimes! The MAn trying to keep us down. Trying to keep us at one spot. Telling us that our batteries are low that we can't venture out that we CAN'T SPREAD OUR WINGS AND FLY!
reply

When birds get pushed out of the nest some of them fail to fly and wind up smashed on the ground. I'd say with a defective battery and no more charger, that android is one dead baby bird.
reply

So I am confused, Altar was supposed to make them want to leave but without the Altar/home they can't charge themselves, or did they even need to charge themselves. but still very good
reply

Excellent film! And it’s nice to see a film that is not simply a dissertation on how well the director/editor can use Unreal Image or other VFX software. Brilliant work.
reply

Its succeeded to peek my interest until the end, a very nice short film, that leaves you wanting to know what happens next! well done to all involved!
reply

It's your 200th birthday (whatever) and all those ancient electrical appliances are still working, even the lift No! sorry, no ending & no realistic scenario.
reply

He did exactly what he was programmed to do
Their job was not to reach out to interstellar humanity their job was to start over.
Brilliant!
