What killed the kinect?

The Kinect was one of Microsoft and Xbox's biggest flops. What exactly went wrong? Falcon takes a look Saitenspieler: I don't agree, sorry! Kinect v2 was a good sensor and it worked fine. at least as good as the Wii controllers. And there was so much opportunity, that never made it to reality as MS decided to give it up far too early. Because they bet on Hololense, which most probably will never become an option for families. You talk a lot about a -killer game-. There had been one, Fable Legends for kinect. But MS stopped it due to Hololense. Which has been the biggest mistake. These days an Xbos is not a family console anymore. You are far better of with a Nintendo or Sony console. Who needs a PC in a box? I can play with a controller on my laptop, if I want that feeling. This is, in my opinion, the real reason for why Kinect is not supported anymore. MS bet on the Hololense tech, only business oriented and didn't care anymore about private consumers. And yes, they still do good stuff, like the transition of all the old games to the new platform or cloud gaming on xbox. But the main difference between a PC and a console is.....well, it should provide someting different. Which is not the case anymore.

I've had alot of fun with Kinect Sports (1&2) And me and my gf have recently in 2022 picked the game and kinect back on. We had so much fun that i decided i wanted to buy Kinect Sports rivals aswell, we had the xbox one camera, but guess what, the camera did not work for my xbox one s.. so I was like ehm okeey guess we can't play kinect sport rivals.. BUT i really enjoy kinect sports and it is so wierd you can't play kinect sports rivals on xbox one s without buying an extra adapter for kinect.

I liked it, I didn't like the fact that Microsoft seemed to think everyone had a living room the size of a football pitch. Adventures was good but too limited. I enjoyed playing the platform games with my younger nieces and nephews but they didn't build on it. But mostly it was the space thing (I used the Wii for exercise and the idea of not having to use a controller was very very appealing. It wasn't as good.

Most people are lazy. It is a specific fact not to use kinect. Also, as for the S generation of consoles (within the One generation), there is also need for an additional adapter to connect the gadget, with additional costs and complications.
I think the kinect option is a very good one, with application in sectors as sports, medicine, dance..., we just did not exploit it adecquately.

I really wish this took off... I love these -gimmicks- like the Wii and the DS and now VR. I think like VR, the Kinect needed to be more refined.
Traditional gaming is fine, but I appreciate these kinds of wacky ideas that really help with new gameplay ideas.
Thankfully the Oculus Quest 2 is like a more refined Kinect. I will always love motion controls and gimmicks.

Me and my boys used to love Kinect Sports. We would always play it around 2012 when we were 12. I kinda wish there was a kinect 3.0 extremally upgraded in comparison to kinect 2.0, I'm sure me and my boys would still love to play some Kinect Sports while we're all drunk at a party- damn time flies, we were in primary school back then

They should've made hybrid games, where you use a controller while infront of the kinect. That would allow to design games with complex gameplay as we know them and implement motion control where it fits the game. That's also the reason for the Wii to be so much better. You can add a Nunchuk with an analog stick.

I know the reason it failed. I-ll tell you right now: most people don-t have mansion sized living rooms, lusciously appointed with bright modern furniture and perfect lighting. I live in a decent sized house and there-s no place that is ideal to use the Kinect.

It may be a flop to some but for me, my WHOLE body went sore bcuz i played Kinect Sports for 1 hour lmao, but tbh it's such a great device to use. It's kinda sad because the newer xbox doesn't have kinect anymore and my Xbox 360 is getting tired :(

Despite the Xbox kinect failing, it actually proved useful in animation. In an SFM called -Practical problems- the animatior actually used an Xbox kinect to create the animations for the mercenaries. So that-s one good thing out of it.
