Yeah the pokemon one at 6:42 is definitely one where you had to have played a lot of the pokemon games to experience this stuff first hand to actually find out about it. The sunny day to make solar beam hit instantly was pretty common, but some of those other ones are definitely random. The one I remember discovering on my own without the internet or anything else was earthquake on dig. I remember it would do a TON of damage and then it clicked for me that it was some hidden bonus in the game

Your explanation for partial parry in dark souls is completely wrong. You dont get less damage if you hit right as the arrow lands, or even if you do, it has nothing to do with partial parry. If you use your PARRY key, and it PARRIES a projectile, you dont get knocked back and take little damage, as opposed to no damage which is what usually happens in a parry, and thats it. It PARTIALLY PARRIES it. Nothing to do with attacking, or with timing a hit.

The relationship system from Dragon's Dogma. Sweet God, you might not have a single bit of understanding of romancing, but the game will _force you_ to be an item with whoever you pleased more. What they certainly didn't tell you was that trading counts. This means that if you traded mostly with that rich, fat merchant, you were probably going to be treated to a love scene with him at the end of the game.

I know The affection thing in FFX did have an effect on something gameplay wise, but I can't remember what it was. I do know it was oddly specific. either had something to do with the ultimate weapon side quests, or using a certain move with a certain character, or something. I remember reading you had to have a high affection stat with a certain character to do something. it's been awhile, tho.

Maui Mallard on the genesis/snes that game made no mention that you could turn into a ninja and uae several special abilities in that form. I literally learnt everything by mashing buttons lol.
In Donkey kong country games you can sprint by holding down the run button. I wonder how many people know that??

I'd like to mention spell sync. in Dragon's Dogma.
I know it's not a -BIG- game, but it's big for me and other dedicated fans. It's a hidden gem among RPGs.
There is also more hidden mechanics in Dragon's Dogma.
For example there are ways to teach pawns ( AI companions ) to behave certain way.

A Monster Hunter Rise mechanic a lot of even high rank people don't know is you can aim any throwing item including the Kuni by holding LZ [Used to aim wirebug] and then Y [use item] and its incredibly useful for throwing things in fights that requires good aim/moving and using a throwable item.

Fun fact with FFX's affection system: If you grind out getting Tidus' final limit break in the water area where you dive down with Rikku (called ????), then NO ONE will through you the blitzball. It'll just appear magically all on its own for Tidus to kick. It's hilarious.

How about the air-brake in Crash Team Racing? It's absolutely essential in higher difficulty races, and nowhere in the game does it teach you to hop, turn and brake while still in mid-air to turn sharp corners extremely tightly.
