To be fair to subnautica, the ghost leviathans we see in the clip are adult ghost leviathans, and the only time you come across them is if you leave the map, as they act as a much more terrifiying version of the out of bounds timers you see in some games. There are also versions of these inside the main map, but they are smaller juveniles, and regardless of its a ghost, a reaper, or a dragon leviathan, you will hear them well before you see them, giving you ample time to figure out where they are relative to you, and try to steer clear of them. Hell, for as big and dangerous as the dragon leviathan specificly is, its actually the easiest to get past undetected, as long as you move really slow, and dont make noise to disturb it. This works to a point with ghost juveniles, but not so much with a reaper

That thing in Zelda just looks silly. It looks like they are boning each other lol. I never saw what anyone saw in that game. Terrible graphics, annoying. Characters, irritating dialogue and repetitive puzzles and long areas of boredom. I was happy to go back to Doom series on PC.
Still have my N64 I got 2nd hand in close to mint condition years ago but barely ever used it after trying that and the controller was terrible lol.
I only paid $15 for the console with about half a dozen games as they weren’t worth much at that time.
I think it was around the time of the GameCube as plenty were trading them in on that.
I don’t know if a purple N64 is still worth anything. It has been packed away in a drawer for years now lol

I don’t know if this really counts as a scary moment, but in the game deathloop, there were two incidents that really scared me. The first one was the Colt variant sitting outside, which happens in the middle of the game. It was so unexpected and scary to me. Next one was the easter egg, pick rexly, the other survivor of the loop. Again, felt really odd and a bit scary to meet another human survivor unexpectedly, as I got used to only coming across Juliana and the visionaries. I guess I got spooked by these interactions mainly because the game’s atmosphere and setting is filled with characters in whacky outfits, so interacting with regular human characters felt unexpected.

For Fear, I would've put the elevator sequence, cause I remember that scene the most.
You walk into a room with closed elevators on one side, and a glass front security room opposite them, nothing out of the ordinary. Just a basic, clean room. You go into the security room to hit the button that opens the elevator, and when you turn around to look out the window, Alma is standing on the other side just watching you. You can walk up to the window and she won't move, but she immediately disappears when you exit the security room - the only sign that she was there is a trail of bloody footprints leading from the window directly to the now open elevator door

got a bit of an obscure one; monkey island 2 lechucks revenge - the bunker ending sequence where lechuck is stalking you with a voodoo doll constantly and you can’t escape until you make a voodoo doll of him - you’d randomly be teleported to a room and you’d have no idea how close he was to you or if you’d stumble into him looking for items - also remember i was 5/6 years old back in 96/97, when my dad played this for me and my brother. something about the pixelated red eyes, lurching walk and his moving, living beard - i’ve had recurring nightmares for years even though to me now its a nostalgic MS DOS game

I encountered a terrifying glitch while playing the Hermit mission in Chernobylite. Usually, when the sky darkened and debris starting raining down from the sky in anticipation of the Black Stalker’s arrival, I would wait things out until his arrival, rather than exploring. However, because the Black Stalker’s appearance on the mission is scripted, the build up to his arrival accelerated endlessly as I waited. By the time I got impatient and proceeded with the mission, the game was buggy and glitchy AFwhich made the Black Stalker’s scripted arrival all the more terrifying.

There was two parts for me in Bioshock. When I first saw the Big Daddy throw the guy against the glass and just the elevator ride down where they made it look like that splicer was going to gain access while you were unarmed.
The creepiest by far though was the woman singing to her baby in the pram that turned out to be a gun.
Along with a Bioshock Infinite and it’s DLC, Bioshock is by far my favourite game of the 360 era. I move the many doors concept of Infinite more though.

Honorable mention. Returning to House Beneviento in the Shadows of Rose DLC. That in and of itself brought back memories we believed abandoned. But then suddenly. mannequins are moving. I remember playing it before I had to goto work, because I had an hour before the time I left home to get to work. I saw the first mannequin and thought Oh Lord its gonna move. But even though I saw it coming, it freaked me out so damn bad I said screw it and went to work an hour early.

The Forest, for what it is, the first true run through the game and not knowing much, had a many intense and jumpscare moments for me. And I don't get jumpscared easily, ever. Plus, the AI in that game, for the time, was very well done especially for ambusing/watching you. To just be roaming through a forest at night, trying to farm materials and you see a cannibal just staring at you through a treeline was mint intensity!

Can games just stop with the shtick of taking away our entire arsenal it's kinda played out an boring now, I'd honestly prefer a endgame boss fight designed around having to swap between the entire arsenal throughout the fight to take out appropriate portions of the BBG so that it feels more rewarding having collected all the weapons throughout the game as they then all serve a purpose for that endgame boss

Left for Dead - whenever you’d hear the cries from the witches getting louder and louder and your crews low on health and ammo.
The anticipation between rounds of CoD Zombies, as the hoards get more difficult and helplessness takes over as your teammates fall one by one, as the theme song’s piano echoes in your head and you become overwhelmed with zombies chasing you (the only survivor) around the map.

The first F. E. A. R. had some really good jump scares. Other than the ladder the immediate one that comes to mind is when you're going through a crawl space and a pipe bursts. Alma scrambles at you in all fours through the steam and then disappears when she gets to you. I screamed, paused, and took a lap around the house.
Also, anytime an elevator was involved, something bad was going to happen

The dentist in Bioshock got me the first time around as I was playing the game in the early hours of the morning, lights out, and headphones on. I don't remember there was any indication that there's a person behind you and when I turned around, got me good. Same thing with Man-Bat in Arkham Knight. Got me the first time but even though I know what's coming on replay, I still get startled.

Re village really went ham with that doll house section, the return to it the dlc wasn’t much better but third person tends to take the edge off of scare factor, also the fear ladder is crazy, game is before my time gaming but the girl at the top of ladder is spooky the guy at the bottom makes for a lethal one two punch jumpscare I’m sure that was insane while playing it

1 Halo (Combat Evolved) - The first time encountering The Flood was so heart stopping and unexpected. The game quickly changed from being a straight out shooter game into being an overpowering survival horror nightmare
2The Last of Us - The first time encountering a Bloater as it came along with a whole load of clickers in that generator/power room was so terrifying.

One of my favorites is the first night a. k. a meeting Volatiles for first time in Dying Light, at that moment the game basically told you your objective: survive and RUN for your life.
The other one is from Condemned: Criminal Origins where you are inside a department store and all the mannequins move behind you if you don't look at them.

7: 30 I was in the Bundeswehr (German Army) when FEAR came out. Naturally we (3 Dudes and me) played it in a dark room in the middle of the night, taking turns.
That ladder was the worst XD. It was my buddies turn to play at that point and he jolted back from the Laptop so hard, he fell out the chair. Best thing ever.

Well this list has the top two scariest games I had ever played. Fear, and Dead Space.
That little punk by the ladder scared the absolute shit out of me, and my reaction was so strong, it scared my friend, who is actually playing, so when he saw Paxton at the bottom, he unloaded a full clip roflmao.

In the old wolfenstein games there was an enemy type a walking torso and during the first encounter you walk by a window and a soldier gets thrown at it with great force. The window does not break since it has metal net inside it if I recall correctly it was a very effective jump scare.

Alma is by far one of the most well done and just purely unsettling characters ever made. Her walking towards you on the bloody ceiling is what nearly gave me a panic attack back in the day, but the jump scares in FEAR 2 area CRIMINALLY underrated. Remember the lockers in the school
