The First Descendant doesn’t end. Ever. It tries to pull you in so many directions it’s maddening. Your current character might need optimising, so you are grinding for materials to unlock crystallisation catalysts, same for your guns, which you then have to max level in order to repeat the process, over and over until you have the build you want, but then your character will hit a wall for a certain activity, so you start the grind for a character that will make it easier, then you need new weapons so you’ll be grinding for them, and of course, you’ll then be grinding to optimise them as well, then the devs add new activities or mechanics, so you’re grinding for that as well, then they add more characters, so if you want them, you’ll be grinding for them, then they expect you to grind out a season pass, which has a section with its own currency that can only be earned by coming back every week to earn it, as it’s drip-fed to you over the entire season so if you want the items, you HAVE to come back
It’s FOMO in a game. It has a fairly satisfying gameplay loop, but it’s hard to recommend. It’s just too much of a time sink if you don’t want to spend money. Which is the point, they want you to become so frustrated with the grind you spend instead.

I love that Warframe doesn't even feature because there are some items that are mandatory to have to progress in certain quests (if we focus in the absolutely essential, and those could take from one to 24 hours to be built in the Foundry. That adds to the overall time to completion.
That said, if you're looking to 100% the game (good luck with that, you would need insane levels of grinding or real money spending to achieve that. Leveling every warframe, weapon and companion doesn't take that long, it's the grinding to try and get all parts to build each that gets you, and the time it takes to build them. For example, any warframe requires three parts, each taking 12 hours to be built (can be built simultaneously, plus 72 hours to use them to create the final product; that means a bare minimum of 84 hours per warframe, not taking into account mission runtimes and attempts to get each blueprint, plus the grinding for resources. Times that by the number of warframes (104, you have over 8700 hours (plus leveling, just for the characters. And then you have over 600 weapons, each taking either 12 or 24 hours to build, companions you have 72 hours as well. you get the idea.

I must be the world’s slowest gamer
540 in The First Descendant (and I’ve still got so many characters and weapons to get/work on, and colossi to beat)
840 hours in The Division 2 (haven’t played for a few years either, I got into a little of the endgame but my friend just stopped coming online so yeah, game over for me)
456 hours in Snowrunner (chipping away at the dlc, can’t get anyone to play it with me)
1, 474 hours in Elite Dangerous (Xbox, so not even any new content, dropped the game when FDEV dropped console support, never even fought a Thargoid in my time)
380 hours in Cyberpunk (I was just exploring a lot, and only did one playthrough)
500 hours in AC Valhalla, 206 in Odyssey, 328 in Origins, 530 in Forza Horizon 4
And then I complain about my backlog, like I don’t do this to myself. But in my defence, the paralysis is real. I fall into these holes because my old friends don’t come online much any more, so my co-op backlog stops me from tackling my single player backlog, so I just end up in something I can no-brain my way through.

As a wise sage named Spoole once put forth; one dollar one hour.
This is how normal people should approach games.
I'm looking at my PS1 rpg collection and it makes me weep.
Games these days are short, unpolished, and usually pure garbage (cough, FF7R.
At minimum I want 100 hours from an RPG. A 100% run should take more. This is for a first run.
If I want something short and satisfying I'll replay an old Resident Evil (anything pre 7) or Subnautica or similar.
I want what I paid for. Otherwise I'll play a f2p/freemium. I stopped wasting my money on compromised games over ten years ago. Incalcuable dollars saved.

7: 42 The First Descendant actually has a lot to offer
Everyone is playing the end game content I have almost 500 hours in on the ps5 version only.
The game gets regular updates to keep everyone interested for example like new Descendants, new bosses like Colossi. It's a game all about the grind I fought bosses over a 1000 times, ran missions over a 1000 times. I am two Descendants away from having all playable Characters. i have the Platinum Trophy on ps5, ps4 and have full achievements on xbox. Yes the players have dropped since launch but there are still new players playing

I never trust the completion time websites. I haven't even finished Persona 5 in a non completionist run, and I'm pretty sure I put about 200 hours into my save. And as far as Shin Megami Tensei 5, it took me 109 hours to complete my first playthrough, and the game is set up for you to have to do 6 different runs to 100% complete it.
I guess you might be able to save a lot of time by cutting corners and speed running, or by doing the new game option that lets you keep your levels. but even then, it's going to take a lot longer than projected lol

I think Metaphor has a longer time than that unless you are playing on the easiest mode the first time. You have to play through twice to 100%. Still there is a lot to check off, it’s not hard really but it does take time. The Dragon you can fight the second play through isn’t easy at all. With all of that it’s longer. I think I’ve hit that and I’m pretty close, I think, to the end of my first run. I hope there is DLC because I love chilling with these characters.

Baten Kaitos I II remaster, which came out last year in june, has an incredibly high time to beat, especially if you are counting both games. One of them has an item called Shampoo, which changes after 336ish hours of unmenued, unpaused, active game time. Its a bit of a meme in the community for it, as it is technically required for 100% but most people actively skip it, as almost everything else can be completed in about 100 hours.

The first descendant should be taken off this list, part of the reason they say it takes long is because of having to researching an item which takes 7. 30 hours per item and thats after getting all the materials for it but with all the updates and the events they have just been handing it out to everyone that I think I got all trophies (on ps5) in less then 60 hours and I wasn't even trying

AHAHA FIRST DESCENDANT WITH GUNS the 1st 100/130 hours is NOTHING once you are done with the story, then that's when things get fun. And guns are certainly not the main way to clear content at that point the game has been updated A LOT and microtransactions are more fair and being adjusted towards the asks of the playerbase. Heavily recommend playing it or coming back s2 is fire

I would play jrpgs way more often if they were shorter and less repetitive/grindy. I LOVED Metaphor: ReFantazio but I couldn't get myself to finish it. It is the jrpg that I have invested the most time into though.
edit: shorter even by 10-20 hours or just less grindy. The repetitive grind is what makes me drop the games usually.

Wow I feel like I never see anyone talk about the Legend of Heroes games. I happened to come upon a sale for Trails of Cold Steel and really loved it. Eventually played Cold Steel 2, 3, and 4, as well as Trails into Reverie. I wouldn’t call them perfect but they are really good imo. Still need to play Daybreak tho

Just finished Stalker2, not 100% but the main story.
The game is a masterpiece considering the fact that it was made during an actuall war in the same area of the game's story.
I was born 10 years exactly, on the same date and time, before the Chernobyl Disaster so for me the game is kinda personal.

Trails games take forever because you never beat anyone. They are always holding back or some silly thing after you beat them in a fight, they dust you in a cutscene but you are saved by someone that should be the protagonist and then you plod to the next time they are just hoding back.

Sorry, I refuse to play as an anime babe. I'm not a 14 year old pervert. Give me character creation, OR if you're going to make me play as a female character then give me a serious story, like The Last of Us or the Horizon series. I don't care how big the BOOBS are on my fake female character.

Most games I play last over 100 hours. My play style just has me fully experiencing all the game has to offer. When you fully explore maps, run around looking for Easter eggs and doing all the things that don’t usually add to percentage complete, any game can last this long

I don’t buy a lot of games because I’m a completionist once I start I need to 100% lol but because I want to get my money’s worth I never look up guides so a game that would take 20 hrs to finish 100% can often take me between 40 to 100 to figure out everything

Stalker 2 got about 100 hours out of me. I never finished the game, just stopped playing. That seems to happen to me a lot where I invest literal days into playing a game but too burnt out of it to finish them. BG3 was another until I went back to it to complete.

I have a friend on PS5 with 4, 200 hours in the Division 2. No joke lol.
Everytime I look at my friend's list, that's all he's playing.
I was just on it recently and couldn't find ANYONE to join me. No backup requests, no mission requests, nothing. Weird.
