Descent Underground. An unfortunate disgrace to the legacy of one of the greatest FPS shooter series of all time that revolutionized the genre back in 1995 and 96. It's now stuck in a lawsuit thanks to the developer dawdling and not making any real progress, and the license from Interplay expired. Descent Underground will never see the light of day again. The -re-release- or remake that was supposed to launch in 2019 is also a disgrace because it removed the original story and replaced it with something far less intriguing.
Thanks to the open source project DXX-Rebirth, Descent 1 and 2 have aged far better than I could have hoped, and I still enjoy playing them to this day. Long live the classic.

The levels look great, but the flat powerups are a bit disappointing. I wish there were some Pyro class vehicles. It seems a bit more like Forsaken, than Decent. As for the gamepad, you can configure them for Descent. The dual sticks allow you good control over yaw, pitch, roll, and sliding. The throttles allow speed control. You can use the buttons for weapon selection. It's more versatile than a joystick, in my opinion. Still, I stick to keyboard. I always go full throttle, anyway. It's more responsive for me.

I only now got around to trying out the game after securing a copy via Kickstarter pledge, and they're definitely on the right track, from what I've experienced. The music is pretty good, the controls are spot on, and the level I played was probably way more Descent-esque than in this video. I pledged the Kickstarter because I wanted a new, modern Descent, and that looks to be exactly what we're getting.
Kinda lame that I have to wait a while for the full single-player campaign, though.

The
Descent 1 and 2. Perfection. Sublevel Zero. Perfection with nice differences, visual effects, sound effects, and awesome, ambient music. Short, but interesting, story to wrap it all up, nicely. I'd recommend it for anyone who loves Descent. Descent Underground is shaping up, nicely, and I have heard the in game music, It's good. Also, your Duke Nukem voice is spot on, and hilarious. My all time favorite line from Duke is, -Those alien bastards are gonna pay for shootin' up my ride. -

The original 1994 game engine allowed for doorways between rooms to connect to any of the doorways of the connecting rooms. They didn't have to be next to each other. you could have huge rooms inside a small box within a small room. You could have a door in the middle of a room that led you to come out the edge of the room. It made for some really demented custom maps. Never seen a game engine behave like that. The closest is portal.

Hey LGR, I know this is an old video, but I had a question. do you know if they make voodoo type cards for laptops? I have an older laptop, very old, and while it plays at the right speed (75mhz) the graphics are a little too blocky. Do they make something you can either put inside the laptop, or even better, an expansion card or something that connects to the ports that could basically do the job of an old voodoo?

Hell yes, sweet. I've been wanting to actually play a freespace game as I never did back -in zee day-. Recently downloaded I think #2 and w/out a joystick your not having a good time. It needs to have modern control scheme implement from the start as I assume we get here. Also I'm left handed so no control scheme would work for damn on the old games for me when trying to play them now.

I-ve been watching a lot of LGR lately, and I can-t believe this is the closest thing to a video on descent when it seems like it-s mentioned in every other video!
I-ve been slapping the original descent on everything that could run it ever since I was a kid back in the 90-s (descent on a phone is a bit fiddly, but still beats the hell out of candy crush haha)

I remember I tried playing old descent in some arcades in the 90's. It was the first time I saw VR and it was so cool (but resolution was sooo low back then. When I saw Oculus Rift for the first time this game was first that came to my mind: ) Missiles and debris flying by. I bet brain is not going to react well after many hours of playing it though. :/

Oh, we had betas, then alphas, and now only pre-alpha? Ok, soon we-ll get a bunch of code to look via MS Word. And then - JPG sketches of game concepts.
And big companies have a trend to release unfinished games too!
Soon we-ll pay for games which have just begotten from creators mind. You know, pay for a game in form of a thought.
