Top 10 Movie Franchises That Should Get a Heroine Lead

These movies would be kickass with a heroine as the protagonist! For this list, well be breaking down the film franchises that we believe would do well to switch things up by putting a female in the lead role (or roles) Just imagine Emily Blunt as 007, The Expendables franchise with an all female cast, Indiana Jones with Jennifer Lawrence as a lead, Men in Black with Jada Pinkett Smith in a lead role and more!

The expendables and Taken yeah, sounds pretty good, dollars trilogy - noone can take after clint, male, female or anything in between. Die hard - yeah, no, just don't. MI - it would be impossible to make it without Tom (sorry, had to) JW is already pretty good, I actually really like her character, MiB - it stands on Will and TLJ, that's why the third movie was only half as good as the first two. IJ - well isn't that basically Lara? does it mean there should be Lawrence Croft? PotC once again stands on Johnny Depp, and even with him it's turning really bad, and JB well that'd be just really weird.
To sum up, while there are definitely some movies that could be remade like this and most of them should give women more and better roles, I think it's better to just create new franchises, need I point out Ghostbusters? Not to mention Ocean's eight which already looks like a pretty crappy movie and that's just from the trailer.

You know, I'm starting to hate this whole If you remake a movie with female roles, they are better/as good as the original.
I grew up seeing amazing female roles in movies and tv shows. Some examples are a lot of Disney characters (Tiana, Merida, Mulan, Nani, Lilo, Jessie, etc, Kim from Kim Possible, The Proud Family series, The Powerpuff Girls, HUNDREDS of anime shows, the list goes ON! And those were ideas that were either Original or based off of books and stories. You can remake as many movies with only ladies leads as much as you want, but just because it's women leading the cast doesn't mean it will be good. Give me something amazing and original instead of shoving something that's been done before and insisting it's good simply because it's mainly women.

What is so terrible about male leads? Why must remakes of of great movies be remade with women in roles that were once men? Firstly that suggests writers have run out of ideas so go back to existing work. It's unnecessary. It's better to have oringinals, not remakes. I do think there should be female leads but I disagree with not having male leads, if the argument is that girls need role models, what about boys? It seems lazy to make remakes of existing films, write new stories, have it be an equal number of male leads and female leads, not make everything female led. Also not having a badass female as a lead for everything, it is possible to be strong without being badass. Those kind of characters are the most irritating female leads in my opinion.

Why the push to remake movies with female leads or all female cast? Why do they do poorly at box office? Also a strong female is one that takes care of a man, children, whats wrong with positive traditional feminine traits? Thats not easy and it is heroic in many cases- yes women can save men by being true women. What Hollywood does is swap super young demure skinny women for macho guys and no wonder its ridiculous, even the suspension of disbelief in a sci-fi flic. Why? Because size matters in a fight, which is why boxers have weight categories. Maybe Ronda Rousey can pull it off, because she looks like what a female heroine that can beat up a man should look like. Waiver thin Angelina Jolie was utterly ridiculous in Salt.

I honestly feel like the current leads in these films are what make these great franchises what they were, not to say that a female couldn't do a good job, but it would be a hard standard to surpass especially if these movies were remade just so a female could be at the helm. All in all these changes would be very unnecessary. Honestly, female leads would be better received if they were highlighting a new original and interesting franchise, instead of leading in what looks like producers 'beating a dead horse' for more money.

I feel like a lot of these are actually good ideas, but instead of a complete remake, it would work to just have another installment in the franchise, just starring a woman. Like Oceans 8. With Indiana Jones, theres already going to be a fifth movie in 2020, and is potentially going to involve the passing of a torch. So why not pass it to a woman? Hollywood is just going to remake and reboot everything anyway, we cant stop it, so I dont see why we cant get more female-led movies if we have to go through the remakes anyway.

I'm a total feminist and all for the girl power, but these need to stay as male roles. I'd rather see original and creative content for female leads instead of replacing them in a male established franchise. It just continues a vicious cycle of people comparing it to the male version which needs to end.
Surprisingly enough, a lot of video games have main female characters and could be adapted for screen. We shouldn't limit or try to take over roles, but simply create more diverse roles and build on those.

Msmojo while your intentions are well meaning, I think you kinda pushing it. If audiences hated the fact we got a all female version of Ghostbusters what makes you sure everyone is going to like theses. Don't get me wrong I'm for movies with female leads it's just nobody what's to see a poplar film remade with a the gender swaped. It's better to create original female lead movies like tomb raider and atomic blond then remake Indiana Jones or James bond. But that's just me.
reply

1. Die Hard already introduced Mary Elizabeth Winstead as John McClane's daughter, why not pass the torch to her!
2. James Bond should stay James Bond. Emily Blunt already got her own Sicario.
3. Indiana Jones got a female version, its called Lara Croft.
4. Loved ur choices on Mission Impossible and Pirates of the Caribbean.
5. Men In Black already got its female lead Tessa Thompson.
6. Didn't Halle Berry already did a Taken film cough cough Kidnap

reply

Rather than remaking these iconic roles to women, maybe Hollywood should make an original role or franchise. Please if it is another way around, people would complain more about it. Hey Ms. MOJO can you publish another one; which iconic female roles should be given to men?
More women empowerment roles should come with new leads and stories, rather than replacing an old story with just a female lead instead of a male one. So lazy.

reply

You realize that this doesn't help women in the fight for action leads right? You want women to take a seat beside the men instead of kicking the men off. You can't recreate something with a woman lead as that's just stating that women are our second picks. You trying to fight for women's equality, but you're really stating that women are second best.
Create a new franchise dominant by women leads.

reply

Expendables - Yes after Oceans 8.
WIB - Yes - Jada, Tiffany Haddish, & Danai Gurira (Black Panther) or Janelle Monae.
Indiana Jones - Yeah
James Bond - Maybe
Taken - NO! the first film is great & its iconic & unique.
Die Hard - NO! & both sequels sucked.
Mission Impossible - Nah
Jurassic Park/World - No
Pirates - NO!

reply

Ghostbusters should be an example that we do not need this kinda things, just create something NEW/ORIGINAL.
I mean we already have female characters that are iconic and could grow so much like Lara Croft, Sabrina Spellman, Selene, Wonder Woman, Buffy, The Charmed Ones, Sarah Connor, Ellen Ripley, etc

reply

No just make original films with female characters in the lead. There are already too many remakes, reboots and sequels nowadays. We need more originality. Take Killing Eve, for example. A show headed by two fantastic female actors. Though there isn't heavy action, the bit of action we do get is well performed
reply

I think the title of this list 'sounds' good, but when getting down to the specifics, I think most of us would agree that either the franchise would get de-railed, or why not try doing a spin-off w a female in the lead. Does anyone remember Cutthroat Island? Geena Davis did a great female lead.
reply

There are iconic male badasses and there are iconic female badasses, they all have their own separate characters and respective franchises, we dont need a remake of any of these movies with a female in the lead role we need a brand new movie. I do agree with an all female Expendables though
reply

Why not come up with new premises for them to take center stage in rather than trying force them into something in which the fans of333 which would probably not like th444434reeir franchises messed with just for the sake of having a female lead? Indiana already has a version with Laura Croft
reply

Im not against the idea of these movies getting a different spin on things, but most of these series are still in progress. Wouldnt it be better to create something original instead of trying to piggyback off an existing franchise? Perfect example: Ghostbusters, may I say more
reply

Does no one remember the Indy-esque TV show Relic Hunter with Tia Carrerra (sp? It ran for 3 seasons, but it was about a college professor who was an archaeologist and went on many adventures to find, or stop others from finding lost relics. She was a very kick-ass and strong female lead.
reply

Im all for female empowerment, but this is full of franchises that need to just end & I dont think the picks would really gel. More original works have been proving much better for women leadership than trying to do blockbusters (no matter how hard Tomb Raider tried both times)
reply

C'mon we can't gender flip every franchise they're fine just as they are, if they're good that it, so why don't we just leave them alone and focus making new franchises, and with heroic female leads if we want to go this route, and not remake things with gender flipped leads
reply

These comments are hilarious, so upset that a women could be in your movies. nothing wrong with a remake, or something a little different. Anyone who actually thinks a woman would ruin the franchise needs to look at themselves and realize theres no real reason not to.
reply

If Men in Black had a female lead. Would it be called WoMen in Black? Either way, I would see that movie but only if Will Smith appears, it wouldnt be the same without him. Also I wanna see that female doctor he rescued and turned into a Woman in Black in the first movie.
reply

Technically speaking. Taken in getting a female lead. Since the SAME DIRECTOR is doing a movie called PEPPERMINT according to him, BASED ON TAKEN. Although I would REALLY LOVE TO SEE KIM OCCUPY HER FATHERS ROLE. After all, SHE IS HAVING A DAUGHTER TO TAKE CARE OF.
reply

You just can't remake movies with women when the main actor of a movie/franchise is so associated with it, it would feel very weird and uncomfortable to see anyone else with their role
Plus stop with the remakes and reboots, we need to see NEW movies

reply

I can see a female lead Jurassic park or men in black movie. the first never had any established main protagonist for the franchise and the later is an organisation. but all the other suggestions are tied to a very specific character.
reply

Because the reboot of ghostbusters with all female charachters was such a hit. this list just make no sense at all, like why? These movies are totally ok like this, just create new content with female leads (and with male leads too)
reply

I'd love to see more badass female leads, but leave existing series alone. Original stories would be much more captivating, there are enough remakes/long lasting franchises going on. I can't imagine a female James Bond.
reply

Doesn't this video prove that women / feminists have no guts, originality, brains or imagination? Why would a woman pretending to be a guy in a former guys role help women? It simply reaks of jealousy and inability.
reply

If they ever do make a new Indiana Jones with a heroine lead please let it Be like Batman beyond where the elderly Dr Jones eventually chooses a successor (who is also unknown child) and passes on the torch
