For me, The Sound of Music is the top and I really think it should be higher
Till today, though having seen many different movies, the dance between Maria and Captain in The Sound of Music is still the most romantic scene in films I thought.
The dreamy chemistry is beyond description, overflowing the screen My heart is touched, melted and broken
I know The Sound of Music(1965) isn't a love movie, but the chemistry and love between Maria and Captain is unmatched Whether their daily talk, this dance, or the KISS later Always make my heart quiver, which is very rare to me even when I was seeing some iconic love movies.
The chemistry

Great picks. My favorite is Errol Flynn. Ive watched all his movies many times. Hes possibly the most underrated actor Hollywood ever presented. Perhaps his lifestyle caught up with him but he gave so many stellar performances, many worthy of an Oscar and he was never even nominated which is inexcusable for such a talent. He was born to be in front of the camera, was completely natural, athletic and easily the most handsome guy ever. Theres no part he couldnt play. Who wouldnt fall in love with him?

GWTW is the greatest romance of all time. Yet, there is the Brothers Karamozov. Yul Brenner and Maria Schell in that movie were so in love and so magnatic together. Casablanca is priceless, and Nortrous was beyond in Bergman & Grants love scenes. The love between Meryl Streep & Kurt Russel in Silkwood were incrediable. When he gets 1/2 dressed and opens the door to go outside & sees Meryl's character by her car giving him a glimpse of her nudity under her coat, the look he gives her is pure love.

Including Best Years of Our Lives is a pro move--and there are at least two other scenes in the movie that equally qualify--when Frederic March returns home from the war and he and Myrna Loy meet for the first time--and the final wedding scene--where Teresa Wright and Dana Andrews look at each other as they listen to the wedding vows of Homer and Wilma--gets me every time. Then he proposes, telling her how tough marriage will be, and she accepts him still.

Where is Picnic? That dance scene between Kim Novak and William Holden is my All-Time-Favorite! You actually can see the moment he gives in to her and admits his love in the dance. The moment he looks down on her and pulls her closer. What a delicious scene of love in a movie It's palpable as if you were standing there watching those two dance. Definitely swoon worthy.

Captain Van Trapp and Maria moments in the Sound of Music was the very best besides Bert and Mary Poppins, you can truly tell that the Captain was indeed inlove with Maria and visa versa. In Mary Poppins you can also tell that Bert and Mary truly cares about each other deeply but nothing can campare to Captain Van Trapp and Maria's love for each other nothing.

The Philadelphia Story? Really? Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron? No. I agree with An Affair to Remember, but the scene in Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn when they say good bye is a very romantic scene. My most favorite scene is with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman in Nortorious when he rescues her and admits his love. Check it out!

Too bad everyone forgets the love scene in Maytime with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy when they confess their love for one another and Jeanette leaves her love to marry her voice instructor played by John Barrymore. Their true life love story shines through as they blend their singing voices in Will You Remember?

My #1 is the ending to the Way We Were. When Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand see each other years after divorce. They are still in love with each other, but both know not even a friendship is possible because of their feelings for one another. Its romantic and tragic all at the same time.

I also loved the scene between Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero in Camelot, when she visits him while he is sleeping (If Ever I Would Leave You. The first time I saw a romantic, passionate connection was when I watched The Parent Trap with Brian Keith and Maureen O'Hara.

A PLACE IN THE SUN from 1951. The dancing kiss scene between Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor is legendary. So devastatingly romantic and charged because they loved each other in real life too. (platonically because he was gay but still a profound relationship)
reply

An Affair to Remember is definitely the top! For second i would nominate the scene in Message in a Bottle between Kevin Costner and his leading lady when one of them is driving away in their car and keep getting in and out of the car for yet another kiss.
reply

Another great love scene is from an all but forgotten film, The Sound and the Fury with Joann Woodward and Yul Bruner. Great kissing scene. Wonder movie even though the story was completely different than the novel.
reply

All great scenes, They sure don't make em like these anymore, I think James Stewart's telephone scene with Donna Reed in It's a Wonderful Life is also one of the most romantic scenes. Thanks Ms Mojo, great video.
reply

Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday kissing in the water that they fell into. The other one is Jimmy Stewart and John marine on the telephone realizing how much they love each other Debra Bader.
reply

oh well done! I am a Robin Hood/Erroll Flynn/Olivia de Havilland fan, but how do you relegate Maria and the Captain and An Affair to Remember? Good stuff, when back in the day Hollywood let boys kiss girls.
reply

IMO, the most romantic scene ever filmed is the dance between Maria and the Captain in Sound of Music, although a close second would be their encounter in the garden when they finally declare their love.
reply

The ending scene of the graduate
Quo vadis 1952 when Marcus and Lidia declare their love for either as they are about to be executed
Queen of Africa ending scene
The band of angels ending scene

reply

I think the scene with Mathew Mc Fadden and Kiera Knightley in Pride and Prejudice when he proposes and she denies him but rshe eally doesn't want to. The almost-kiss is pretty heavy duty romantic IMHO.
reply

Lady and the Tramp- They were having a romantic Italian dinner set up by Tramp's restaurant friends. Tramp slurps a strand of spaghetti, Lady slurps a strand- it's the same strand and they come together.
reply

My opinion I think that with the exception of the Sound of music they all seem so melodramatic. Perhaps it was a legacy of the Era. The Sound of music on the other hand was understated yet powerful.
reply

There was an early Elizabeth Taylor vehicle called 'Rhapsody' (1954) that probably no one here has heard of. I watched it as a child on TV and the hopelessly romantic ending always stayed with me.
reply

Thank you for including Homer and Wilma's scene in The Best Years of Our Lives. The phone scene between Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed in It's a Wonderful Life would be in my list.
reply

I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU DIDN'T INCLUDE THE MOST ROMANTIC MOVIE MOMENT EVER! PICNIC! THE SLOW DANCE BETWEEN KIM NOVAK AND WILLIAM HOLDEN. When he places her hand on his heart, I melt.
reply

Lily James dancing with the Prince in Cinderella, Anna Maria Albergetti tearing her Rich clothes to tell Jerry Lewis, she cares nothing about money in Cinderella
reply

Ah, they really don't make them like this anymore. Thank goodness we have these all memorized and immortalized on film so that we can watch them over and over again.
reply

I have to say its You need to be kissed Gone with the Wind. But I'd like to add a moment (a weird one. But hows about the Empire Strikes Back Carbon Freeze chamber.
reply

Dr. Zhivago- lots of romantic scenes, but the best is where Lara walks into the library and Yuri sees her, with the sunlight shining on her hair- Wow!
reply

Roman Holiday would be near the top of my list. That kiss between the characters played by Audry Hepburn and Gregory Peck was so special and memorable.
