Jelly doughnut biscuits are what you get when you try to make a less-sweet, less-rich baked version of jelly doughnuts, and then roll them too thin. Since this didn't come out as successfully as I'd hoped, so there's no Allrecipes. com recipe page link, but just in case you want to play around with this, here s what I used and did

Having seen what happens when you Deep Fry canned Biscuit Dough, and having bought a large number from various Chinese Restaurants under some variation of the name Chinese Doughnut, I am completely unsurprised at how distant this recipe came out.
Then again, I've used a similar filling method for deep fried Grands biscuits in the past. Which does indeed produce a less-sweet doughnut then is traditional, though tossing in sugar while still hot and using a sweet filling goes a long way to making up the difference. Perhaps you should whip up a batch of biscuit dough some time and give it a chance.

Chef John, just by accident, you have created the most popular pastry in Germany! It has existed for many centuries and goes by different names, depending on the area. This 'final' version is known to be first created in Berlin, that's why they are generally known as 'Berliner'. But they are also named 'Krapfen' or 'Pfannkuchen'. They were the first thing I ate when I move to Germany 20 years ago. Kind of a Lovestory since: D Thanks for this video, you've nailed them!

Is it just me or has Chef John been on a tangent of posting boring recipes lately. Usually something simple and not special or its super common and been done a bajillion times. I'm a huge fan so I guess I have just been disappointed in the last so many videos.

These are almost identical to a yeast biscuit recipe I know, except that one uses melted shortening instead of butter and warm water instead of milk - and no filling, of course. I think this one is likely to be better, though, especially with the filling.

1- Watched the video with anticipation; 2- Followed the first couple of steps; 3- Recoiled in horror at the precise order of work and the requirement of talent and years of expertise; 4- Retreated to Dunkin' Donuts for a nice coffee and a cool glazed bun.

I'm a diabetic with 7 toes amputated and another on the radar. Still have 3 little piggies left, so avoid things like this.
However, that being said, Chef John.
You rock!
My story!
Sticking to it, right people?

I fancy having a go at these and having a tinker with the ingredients. These would be gorgeous if they turned out like a crumbly biscuit that melts in the mouth. I ll probably fail but I ll have fun trying!

I've been watching for over two years now, and it's gotten to the point where I see the thumbnail and hear Jelly donut biscuits. That's right. and all the other parts of the intro.
