Note about flour:
Yes there is a difference between self raising flour and self rising flour. In the American Self Raising flour, salt is often added to the flour during the milling process, along with everything else that makes it self raising flour.
Many other countries - such as Australia - the industrial standard (so most of the brands of flour you buy from the shops) don't add the salt.

This could be so much better. Any worthwhile Mac and Cbeese recipe has more than one kind of cheese in it. I would do sharp cheddar for flavor, Fontina or Guerye for a melty texture, and Parmesan for an added salty bite. It would be easier to bake this in a springform pan, just remove the sides and not have to do all that flipping over of the cake.

Easier is always better especially if you get to tweak the recipe with the type of cheese or macaroni used. I love green onions I may buy some to use in this recipe, but I have sweet onions and am thinking of using those without adding the sugar and using Ditalini macaroni that I've seen in pasta e fagioli soup.

Oh, man, I just made Mac & Cheese the day before yesterday. I wish I'd had this recipe then, since this looks so much more convenient and less time-consuming. I probably won't give it a try soon, but I'll definitely print the recipe and try it next time I make Mac & Cheese.

Now that Chef John has discovered the radius of a circle, maybe he will discover centrifugal force. If you want to flatten out a batter before baking, just give it a spin or two on the counter top, the forces will push stuff outward so the middle will not be too thick.

Chef John remembered, but chose not to say 'Round the outside, round the outside' as he was lifting that macaroni cake; for creative reasons of course.
I also like to think Chef John posted this video specifically for my birthday. Thanks John! I hate sweet cake.

I haven't tried this recipe yet but I think it might be good with cheese sauce drizzled on top if served hot or maybe some cream cheese whipped with butter and piped on like icing rosettes if serving room temp. Because more cheese always equals more better.

We make an ovendish but just with milk and eggs, lots of macaroni, bacon/smoked cured pork, ham and cheese and some nutmeg. It will colour nicely and is really delicious with a tangy sauce made of mixing ketchup with mustard.

Looks great. Unique.
We will have to try it soon but I think either we will do it served on a bed of a homemade cheese sauce or with it spooned over the top.
That's just us cooking.

I love anything savoury. As kids we often ate room temperature leftover mac and cheese in solid square blocks with a dash of ketchup or mayo. It was like having a pretend savoury pie.

Powdered American Cheese would be called for to make this authentically tasting. But regardless, I am amused but honestly not craving a Mac N Cheese cake. Schwing and a miss, sorry.

Although since we're making mac & cheese cake, I'm sure four-twenty would have been fine.
I love how you just slipped that one in there. Well done. Well done indeed.

I was all set to make this, but then you told me your wish from blowing out the candle! By the wishing laws, I'm afraid I'm obligated to never make this delicious looking cake.

I made two of these, cut them in half lengthwise and made it like a layered cake. The filling of the layers was blue cheese mixed with cheese, it was so yummy.
