Vegan Cream Cheese for Beginners

For my first try at making a vegan cheese spread, I thought this cultured cashew cream cheese came out extremely well! Whether you’re on a plant-based diet or not, I think you’ll love this easy to make, creamy, fermented cheese, which we can flavor and use any way we’d use regular cream cheese. I would love to try this! It looks so easy! I've watched countless videos of yours over the course of 8 years. I'm so glad you are making/sharing more health-conscious recipes lately. I'm getting old and definitely want to watch what I eat.
Anyway, all the recipes of yours that I have tried so far turned out perfect. Thank you so much for your generosity to share your creativity and expertise with us, Chef John!

You can also use a light miso & if you have a dehydrator, you can put it in there on a line tray on low. It will be firmer. You just added add to much water. You could’ve also put it in a cheese cloth with a little bit of weight and let that water drain for 24 or more hours. Just a couple different options! Great job on your first vegan cheese! Thanks for making this video! Btw. as a very long time vegan I tell that joke all the time! see what I did here

I'm not vegan, but I am lactose intolerant, so I'm going to give this a try. Ironically, it's the raw cashews that might be the hardest ingredient for me to find - my local grocery store has so much variety in roasted snacking cashews, but even finding unsalted (yet still roasted) cashews is an uphill battle sometimes, let alone raw ones.

Chef John, I remember you sneaking a vegan joke into almost every video that was accidentally vegan or intentionally vegetarian, and it made me so happy hearing the man who taught me how to cook describe himself as vegan-curious. Huge thumbs up!

I almost didn't even watch the video simply because of the 'vegan' word. BUT I knew you are a meat guy too so I thought 'why not watch it and see where it goes'. I'm glad I did watch it because it sounds interesting and worth trying. :)

Gonna have to make this to try. I have 2 friends who are severely lactose intolerant. One has tried a bunch of "vegan cheese" and not been happy. But, then, he's a carnivore so I get it.
Thanks for the recipe!

Thank YOU! As someone who is not a vegan but is dairy free (allergy) I could use more like this! I miss dairy so much. Would an oven with a Proofing setting be okay, about 100f

Spend $1 on cream cheese, or $20 on imitation cream cheese! Ever since you all watched that bogus show "you are what you eat" on netflix, yall have become brain dead lol!

There is no such thing as vegan cheese. I really dislike the fact that they call stuff like that cheese because it is in no way cheese. It's really disingenuous

Dear Chef John. as stupefying as this recipe is, it mainly serves to prove a point - it seems I will watch anything you participate it. Be well!

Gotta love whenever you eat something vegan, you have to ask for the whole list of ingredients, otherwise that nut allergy slaps you hard.

No such thing as vegan cheese.
It's a cream cheese substitute. If it tastes any good it shouldn't have to pretend to be anything else.
