Today Im going to introduce you to a very easy but incredibly addictive side dish. If you love anything a little salty like the sea a little and stinky like squid, youll fall in love with ojingeo-silchae-bokkeum, or crunchy squid threads. Its tastes sweet, crunchy, and a little salty, and once you start eating it, its hard to stop!

So sad, here in Honolulu, Hawai'i we have a large Korean community. But, I went to the stores here, Palama Market being one, and very politely asked for the ingredients for the above recipe and they acted like they never heard of the kind of squid. They kept on trying to sell me the snack variety which is a good but thicker. I even copied the Korean and showed it to them, and they said they didn't have it, and didn't know where to get it. Now, I went to a store here used to be called Daie, but now Don Quixote, and found a near enough type of Japanese style. Still, I wanted to do your recipe exactly but unfortunately I can't. The same with the sea weed snack that you season and fry. they don't have the seaweed. Same with the plums for Maesil-cheong. So, I try my best.

I bought a bag of squid threads at the Korean store and tried it right out of the bag. Not so good. I didnt know what to do with it. Then I saw your YT video and followed the instructions. Damn. That is really good and so simple! I am hooked. Like you said: it is kind of addicting, especially with your favorite beer. Thank you for the video. Love it.

You are absolutely right Maangchi. There are certain recipes that always remind me of my mother. fish in mustard sauce for one, vegetable koftas (dumplings), cottage cheese in spinach gravy, parathas (type of Indian bread ), vegetable stew, fluffy egg omelette. the list goes on and on.

My memory food is baked potato with stringy cheese.
When I was a young child me and my parent used to go to this food stand in a town called Sandbach in the UK, we used to sit on a bench and eat them, it was so warm tasty and comforting.
So I love baked potatoes now!
