This is a long one frome me.
Luby's Cafeteria. Yes yes yes and if you're in Texas and lived at least in the Houston area in the 80's. do you remember Wyatt's Cafeteria Hands down the best chicken fried steak ever! Even better than Luby's and even their Fried Fish was good but the CHICKEN FRIED STEAK was where it at! We actually preferred Wyatt's over Luby's but it went outta business so Luby's it was but don't get me wrong. we love Luby's still. If I want it now I have to drive a little ways because the one in my town (Deer Park) closed down.
My Go To Lubys order is either (depending on my mood):
Also a side note. The Luby's in my town before it closed down did all you can eat for dinner. So you could get a bunch of different things.
#1: Fried Fish or the Fish Almondine but mainly the Fried Fish, Mac And Cheese (always) and Fried Okra and/or Buttered Corn or Green Beans and a Roll also. Strawberry and bananas!
#2: Chicken Fried Steak with the same sides and roll
#3: Hamburger Steak or The Cheese Steak they offered with the sames sides and roll
#4: Roasted Chicken with Dressing (stuffing) with Mac and Cheese and either corn or green beans with a roll. Lol
Drink of choice: Sweet Tea or Dr. Pepper

My goodness if I don't have a whole lot to say! This is my second comment! Lol
Girl you are tugging at my heart strings here! I would love to be a guest at your home on this night! In all honesty every night but a Luby's night. absolutely!
Me and a friend were literally just talking about this exact meal! Lol I had to send it to her before I even watched it! Lol yeah you did it You hit the nail on the head with this one! But you do that with all your videos! Obviously we love them and I just recently made your chili cheese enchiladas or the chili con carne cheese enchiladas. And they were a hit everywhere! I made a big batch of them and shared and everyone loved them! Actually my husband told me they taste better than the restaurants that we have down the road! So huge compliment to you.

I discovered an amazing fish batter playing with non-Newtonian fluids. You can make just a cornstarch ooblek. I really only add salt to season. When you go to batter the fish you have to move very very slowly so that you don't break the oobleck. It creates a thick coating. I then pan fry both sides. My favorite is oobleck fried steelhead on a flour tortilla with ranch sauce. The crunch with oobleck is beyond any other batter possible. You have to try this. I've never seen another person make it and I've watched hundreds of hours of cooking shows. Been keeping it a secret but now it's in the wild.

YESSSSSS! I'm born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and our family has been going to Luby's since I was a toddler! Luby's is actually one of my earliest memories. I love and often crave Luby's fried fish! Awesome you did this! We still have a few of them here in San Antonio. I love Luby's but the problem is they are always SO crowded, gives me anxiety. San Antonio has gotten so crowded these past few years. My favorite meals from Luby's: Fried Fish, Chicken Fried Steak, Enchiladas.

Grew up going to Luby's, Furr's and Shakey's pizza. All of them are gone now. Always got the fried fish, Mac n cheese fried okra. Luby's had the best carrot cake. Ate the same at Furr's, but they had the best ever apple dumplings and millionaire pie. Wish I had their recipes.
Shakey's pizza. They had I think they were called rojo potatoes, oh my gosh!
And that was a trip down 1970s memory lane.

I ate there often until they closed! Their menu wasn’t as good after they sold out
I got the fried fish, Mac and cheese, green beans and extra tartar sauce
I’m 90 miles straight down from you. All but two luby’s have closed in our area due to the buy out changing the restaurant preparation to frozen prepared food using allegedly luby’s recipes

My mom loved cafeterias. We ate at Luby’s and Piccadilly here in Houston when I was growing up long ago. My favorite was the fish also with fried okra and mashed potatoes with creamed gravy. And Lucy’s has the absolute best carrot salad! I always had a side of carrot salad. our Lucy’s nearby on Hwy 59 is still open.

Luby's in El Paso TX was our last stop before driving back to NM after a day shopping. My order every time--chicken fried steak, cream gravy, mashed potatoes, buttered corn, cucumber/tomato/onion salad, chocolate cream pie and a coke or sweet tea. To be fair, that was my order at any cafeteria that had it

I was initiated into Luby’s when we moved down here before I was a teenager. My ma still hates vegetables, only served three of them and they were covered in butter or velveeta. So I enjoyed getting to see and taste vegetablesthat’s what Luby’s meant to me.

I’ve been eating at Luby’s since I was a kid in the 60’s/70’s! Still eat there today. Fried fish, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and chocolate icebox pie. We’ll make this fried fish with our Luby’s macaroni and cheese recipe we make. Thank you!

Loved the fish and always got the Ritz cracker pie. So good. I make the pie sometimes. Made it once for an Easter picnic and forgot to butter the pie pan and people were breaking the plastic spoons to get the part that stuck out of the pan.

Oh my yes! When I was pregnant with my daughter, I craved the fried cod fish. I could eat it everyday. Luby’s was the place I had to go! Not just to sit and eat, but to take one home! My husband was so glad when I had that baby!

When I was growing up my mom cooked a lot of things with cracker crusts I guess its a 50-60's thing I remember getting corn flakes on our tuna casserole or ritz crackers. saltine crust sounded really good and i love cod fish TY

We still have our Lubys! Our family loves it so much, my 9yr Grandson opted to eat there to celebrate his birthday-lol!
Favorite combo: Fried fish, mac&cheese, okra or green beans, and corn bread. Oh and strawberry pie!

OMG! I miss Luby’s! The fish was the only meat I got, same as my Mom. She loved it! Oh I appreciate you sharing this recipe The green beans you’re making look sooo yummy. I want to eat at your house!

There’s still a few around here in Houston when I stop by. I like to get there either chicken fried chicken meal or the cheesy steak meal, mac & cheese, yams, and a side of cabbage or fried okra.

Definitely ate at Luby's many times as a child, and took my children there a few times as well. The one in our town closed, so we have to make a drive to visit one now. Way better than Golden Corral!

We make mac and cheese with Velveeta. It’s yummy. No Luby’s up in the Panhandle, but at Furr’s I always ate the baked fish, cooked greens, cornbread, and cauliflower/broccoli salad. Yummmmm.

I remember Luby's when I used to live in Texas. But that was more than 21 years before I moved to New Zealand. Glad to hear they are still going. I just remember their Lime Delight which was delicious.

Hola from Ecuador. Before moving here from Texas. I loved Luby's. I have a lot of favorites, but my top 3 are liver & onions, cheese enchiladas with bean and rice, and bake eggplant Parmesan.
