Get more photos and details about Nong Joke ) on my blog: Every since I went to Krabi for the first time Nong Joke, has been one of my favorite restaurants. Ying, my wife, is originally from Krabi, and shes the first one who introduced me to this restaurant during my first visit to Krabi with her back years ago. She said it was one of her long standing favorite restaurant to eat at when she was back home visiting Krabi. Nong Joke ) was originally a small street food stall at a market in Krabi, but as they grew in popularity and became more well known throughout the small town, they eventually were able to buy a place and move to a permanent restaurant location. Now, the restaurant is run and managed by the son of the original owner, who is doing an excellent job at preserving the original flavors of southern Thai food in Krabi. If youre looking for one of the best restaurants in Krabi that serves authentic southern Thai food, this is the place. We started our meal in this video with khua kling moo, a southern Thai dry curry. This is one of the most complex versions of the dish that Ive ever had, filled with all sorts of herbs and spices. The flavor was incredible. We then tried a dish called gaeng som pla krapong yawd ma prao, one of the signature dishes at the restaurant, a dish of southern Thai yellow sour curry with fish and coconut shoots. It had incredible flavor, and was rich and thick from the spices, chilies, and turmeric. PJoke, the owner of the restaurant, and a friend of Ying, recommended we try the pla insee tod see ew, a piece of king mackerel deep fried and coated in a mixture of soy sauce seasoning. The fish was incredibly delicious. It was crispy on the edges, moist and tender on the outside, and the sauce was perfectly salty and fragrant. On this day I also had goong pad kapi sataw, fresh meaty shrimp stir fried with shrimp paste and also some tamarind sauce in the recipe. Finally we tried the nam prik goong siab, a popular southern Thai chili sauce made with dry shrimp. This is just one of the many meals Ying and I have eaten at Nong Joke ) in Krabi, and just about everything weve tried has been excellent. If you visit Krabi, this is one of the restaurants you have to try

After all these years of watching you I finally took the time to check out your blog (sorry it took so long) and I like that you encourage people (big thumbs up) but I dont think that people appreciate a talent that you have which is a HUGE part of your success and which you are VERY modest about (as in - you dont seem mention it anywhere) - you are an excellent hybrid food photographer (still and video. Its clear from watching your early videos and then going forward how much hard work you have put into learning photography, videography and sound capture. These can be difficult learning curves for many people. you make it look easy

Like the video, but you CAN'T possibly love every taste. Especially if you're a food blogger. I saw one video where you ate a GARLIC. a garlic, and you act like it was the best garlic in the world. Point is if it's over cook, make a note about it, if the taste is off or bad then say so. Otherwise it's like EVERYTHING you eat is all good. Not sure if what I'm trying to say is coming out RIGHT. But not everything is perfect

Being that your wife is from Thailand, I would love to hear/see her opinion of the restaurants you go to while still there. It's always nice to hear from someone who knows there homeland well enough to tell you what's good and what's not. Also, thanks for another great video Mark. I do a lot of traveling, but you make me want to do more. So thank you for that. :)

Mark, a huge heartfelt thank you for the fantastic job you are doing showcasing these food gems around asia. I've just returned from a 2 month trip around SE Asia with friends, where we used your videos as our guide, and each cafe, hole-in-the wall and street stall exceeded every expectation. Looking forward to your Japan series. Bon apetite

Hi Mark, We are going from KL, then on 24th October to Krabi. I have took down all the dishes and I shall try all. Maybe not all on one sitting lol. I don't know where you put all the dishes you eat. Perhaps you have three or four people sitting with you ready to dig in. Any other spots in Krabi you cold recomend would be great.

7. 49 eating the beans and under his own admission taste like trees. But you still get the same reaction like it's the best thing he has ever eaten. Come on, not every thing tastes the same, give some variation in reaction, it's more informative for the viewer. Even no reaction just comments would be ok.

I steered my sister and brother in law to this restaurant today - they are in Thailand on honeymoon and for the last couple of days were in Krabi town. They had the dry curry and stink beans and a few other dishes and LOVED it from the photos they sent me They even did a Mark Wiens impression photo
