Trying to Save our Tree that Split! Garden Answer Amy: That was really interesting I didnt know you could even bolt a tree back together! Could you do a video with recommendations on types of trees to plant for different sized gardens? I have to plant my sons condo back garden and he wants a small shade tree, if there is such a thing! Or a really slow grower. Thanks

Nice job for a DIY. If it turns out more support is required in the future, It might be ideal to place another cable at 2/3rds the distance from the defective crotch, if the size of the limbs is large and solid enough to provide adequate support and at a 90-degree angle perpendicular to the split crotch.

Hi Laura and Aaron! What a great video! As so many others said, I didn't realize you could do that. That is a job well done, Aaron on the tree and Laura's filming! Kudos! Maybe now that you're trying to save this tree you won't remove both later on to redo that area. Thank you so much for sharing!

Love your videos! I sure hope your tree makes it! At our former home, we had a thornless locust and I loved it. All the shade with no raking. I'm wondering if you could hit the bolts with a little brown spray paint? That might hide them a bit. You two did a great job - that tree is worth saving!

This was such an informative and interesting video. You showed every angle and nook and cranny! You guys really have a talent for what you do. I was amazed at the transformation of the tree. I could feel your gratitude for being able to save that beauty. Thanks for sharing!

My honey locust throws the pods. It's a dirty tree. Between it & my apple trees, it's a chore to keep all the stuff that drops cleaned up! Great Job on saving the tree! I know you had to buy the parts & it took a couple of days, but you guys saved hundreds doing it yourselves!

20 years ago we had a mature Cornus Kousa dogwood tree split the exact same way. We used a rubber garden hose to accomplish the same surgery. Our tree healed and we removed the hose about 2 years later. No bark damage and its been fine ever since.

Oh gosh thats a huge split lol. I was worried that I wouldnt be able to save my pear tree that I planted as a kid, but the split on mine is not even a third as deep as yours. I hope your tree is doing ok, and Im very glad I found your video! :)

When he asked if you would cut down the blue spruce
A movie called Grey Owl echoed in my mind
There Are Some Things that ARE NOT For Sale.

When I was a kid, my parents did the exact same thing to our locust tree that had split down to the ground in the early '60s after a snowstorm. It's still standing today - around 50' tall. I bet your tree will be fine.
