Theres Still Time to Plant Flowers & Fall Veggie Crops from Seed! Garden Answer Donna: Thank you for this video! Perfect timing. If you are taking a vote on grass versus mulch, then aesthetically, grass definitely has my vote. Green grass just makes everything look cooler, which is important in a hot climate. Grass will also reduce the dust when your wind storms roll in which will also be appreciated by your neighbors. I tried the dark mulch and loved the look, but we have Arizona white oak trees and they drop leaves twice a year. I got so tired of trying to blow the leaves out of the mulch without blowing the mulch everywhere. Impossible to get all the leaves picked up. I now just dress my beds with compost twice a year. Also the mulch seemed to harbor earwigs and snails, which have now almost completely disappeared since taking out the mulch. Your grass looks awesome Aaron!

I'd stick with the mulch. being in hi desert an all. I'd mulch everything. Not the meadow grasses and wild flower for the orchard, that is such a lovely idea. and the grass with your shade trees will look amazing along you new drive. your videos are a joy to watch and the beautiful Hartley, can't tell you how happy I am for you.
just a thought you have many neighbor's that count on the ground water. if they don't disregard
The climate is changing

You inspired me to plant some fall veggies. I planted some peas, PW Dragon Tongue beans, small pumpkins, broccoli, and Tigger melons. Tomorrow Ill probably replant some tomatoes as mine were taken by mealy bugs! Our first frost date is usually early December in the Houston area so I still have a ton of time to plant! Thanks for the push to get it done! Oh, and we are the ones with 99% humidity, but today was actually pretty nice with around 70%!

I vote mulch over grass in the cut flower and veg garden. It does look better and will add a nice contrast visually and will continue to frame the fun showy flowers and veg. It's fun to be able to see the edges of the all the foliage and identify from a distance what things are. Seems like you'll already have loads of grass.

You have amazing gardens! I know so little about gardening but thanks to you, I am learning a lot. Does it really matter what direction a person orients vegetable garden rows or raised beds? I have watched various videos that seem to favor orienting garden rows from north to south, with the taller plants on the north end.

If you don't like radishes, cut them thinly and put in a container with 1/4 cup red one vinegar, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1 tablespoon of water, and put them in the fridge. we do the same with red Bermuda onion shred thinly and place in the same liquid throw radishes, and red onions, and even cucumbers so delicious.

curious how much do you have to water the squash and pumpkins? Do you use the drip tape or if you did use the drip tube would you water twice a day? currently I have to water mine quite a bit both morning and evening to keep the leaves from drooping and I'm in 60 to 70 degrees.

What do you do with all the basil? I tried a few new varieties (didn't have high hopes) and was really surprised that they all grew well. So now I have beautiful basil plants but am at a loss for how to preserve. Any advise would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Laura I think it funny you're getting ready for fall and we are plant cucumbers, tomatoes etc. Zone 9 here. You show something that we like and the first thing we do is look to see if it is in our zone. Loved the goldenrain tree still looking for it here.
