Gardening With My Friend Jenny! Garden Answer Creatively, : She isn't kidding when she says it's like concrete! Going in with a shovel is near impossible between the hard dirt & the little rocks everywhere! It's like finding a needle in a haystack to find a spot without rocks to get the shovel in. But where I am- there's so much rain, its ALWAYS wet. The texture is like dried out play doh. It comes out in huge chunks instead of like a dusting of dirt when you use an auger. So when you're pla ting something you have to spend 10 minutes breaking up the chunks to fill the holes in around the plant. There is no pushing the dirt towards the plant & the dirt falls in the crevices like in Laura's case. I'm soooo jealous of that! It takes me an hour just to plant a small shrub or something by the time I get out all of my tools, dig the whole, & fill it back in!

i love you and Jennie together. What a treat. I have followed you for years. You are wonderful and a gifted gardener and teacher. I look forward to very video. You have been inspiration to me in my Zone 5 NY garden Alas, I have deer, rabbits and squirrels- oh boy! I also follow Jennie even though she is a Southern Gal. I have ridiculous clay soil after my move from gorgeous zone 7 NY loam up to, yup, clay or aptly described, concrete. Is it truly earth? You know you both have wonderful auger stances that make me feel better about my own posture in the garden. Gheez!
I seldom comment so in the interest of getting it all in, OMG, the Hartley. Living through you!

LOVED this one! Being from the South (now in Southern CA, I love to listen to Jenny! I planted just one honeysuckle vine about 12 years ago and it has traveled the distance of my fence which is about 1 & 1/2 times as long as the fence where you planted it. I'm getting ready to connect it from my fence over to a a chain-link fenced area about 6' x 12' that used to be the prior owners' doggie place but now I use it as a garden shed. I will use rounded cattle panels that will create an arbor-like area to walk under between my fence and my shed. Then will continue on as the roof for my shed. Can't wait to get that project done!

I love how you compared your planting environments! LAURA! I thought we were twinsies! I live in a high desert in Colorado near the foothills with big temp shifts and lots of wind! But my bubble has been burst! Though we are both zone 6 It seems that the altitude difference between us makes all the difference in the world! Our sun is more intense so more burn! My dream of a boxwood formal hedge has been dashed by many of my local garden stores. Apparently boxwood are shade only for us here in Colorado love the collaboration and insight to all the details that lead to successful gardens lots of love from the mile high state!

Love having my two favorite gardeners together! Im in central Alabama and struggle with the red clay and rocks and would never be able to use a large auger (maybe a small one for bulbs in my established beds) but Im happy to hear yall comparing. We have had so much rain this year that several of my things have drowned and I just gave up on protecting my roses. They will come back next year. Also, I LOVE that variegated sedum! It is beautiful! I need that in my life. Anyway, thus just makes me happy happy happy!

Laura is pure class. I don't think a real friend would say she's over ambitious. Love garden answer with Laura & Aaron BEST.
I don't find joy in hearing passive aggressive comments toward Laura.
Most people probably didn't catch that, and yet it was right there.
Furthermore, Aaron called them to get the details about heating equipment for the cold frame. They invited themselves. So no, Aaron and Laura don't owe them anything.

Thank you for collaborating and sharing your gardening experiences in different regions of the country! I too am a southern gardener in NC! Jenny mentioned that panicle hydrangeas don't change color well in the southeast because the evening temps don't get cool enough. Are there some varieties that do have color change to pink/red in the south?

Can you PLEASE dedicate one video to sedum care? I bought two Rock n Grow Back in Black sedum, planted them about three feet apart, and one is happily growing and the other rotted. I did not use biotone and I pulled the drip from them both. I dont want to buy a replacement if the same thing will happen again.
