Canna & Calla Lily Storage + Olive Tree Update! Garden Answer Jenn: Thank you so much for doing this video! I got 2 Cannas at the farmer's market this spring and have realized I should have done my own research on it. The seller told me these were shade plants and after having them in the shade for a month or 2, they looked like they were about dead and weren't growing at all. I looked it up and found that these are actually tropical plants. so I moved them into full sun and within 2-3 weeks, they were HUGE and loving their life! So, I live in Minnesota and knew that I couldn't leave these plants out in the winter and had to bring them inside, which I did about a month ago before the temps started to drop. I didn't know that I actually had to dig them up and store them like the dahlias. So that's what I'm doing today! Thanks for all of your videos, I learn so much from them and have started getting into gardening because of you!

Nooooooooooo. dont eat the olives straight from the tree. Greece here. you have to prep them first. put in water for around 10 days which you have to change every day twice till they sweeten. then put in salt and vineger for an other 20 days. The black olives go either in that salution or in salt layer's. Then they taste awesome. you need more though to really enjoy. i would love to send you some for you to prep once we harvest which is pretty soon here in Crete Greece. Lots of love

Oh Laura! You cracked me up you were so cute! Love your Humility! I think that you are very knowledgeable about gardening and Ive learned a lot about gardening from watching your videos. I was so surprised that you didnt know about having to cure olives and when I watched you much down on that olive I Cringed for you. I have heard that they are bitter but have never tried eating one off the tree. It was very entertaining
Thank you for sharing your videos with us.

Do you guys like pumpkin seeds? With all the left over pumpkins you could have an awesome batch of roasted pumpkin seeds to snack on. Its also a fun project for a kid to scoop out all the seeds clean them up and help season them end get them in the oven for roasting. I think Laura and Benjamin would enjoy doing it. . Ps. Laura, your face and reaction to the olive was Priceless. Thanks for not editing that out.

be sure to keep a close eye on your figs original stem and control how you want it to grow otherwise it can get quite ugly that is my experience there are two where I am right now and they look so so bad they are in the back yard I want an olive tree where did you get yours and did you do a video on the proper care? Love Lisa Norman from Mississippi ps where did your wide dollie?

Hahaha, I almost spewed out my tea when you popped the olive into your mouth. Then you spit it out and I lost it again. Too funny. So glad you did not edit that out. Russell reminds me of my Mister Tubbs. Follows me all over when gardening, has to be right there, falls asleep in the darndest spots. Benjamin was a delight today. He always warms my heart. What a sweet boy.

I wonder if different rhizomes need to be handled different ways. I have comfrey that I dig up to propagate and even a small piece of rhizome can become another plant. I'm getting ready to dig up cannas here in NC (Nov 25) and am going to try just cutting the big dense bunches into pieces with my sawzall! Curious to see what survives next spring: )

I must have missed where and at what temp to store tubers. I have no garage or basement, but a small greenhouse. Grew up digging cannas with dad and we had a cooler basement and stored massive quantities in large round cardboard tubes. I want to purchase some next year, but not sure how I can store them. Any ideas?

Could you please post a link or comment what brand of Dolly/hand truck you used to move the olive tree? That looks very sturdy and strong! I have large Japanese Maples in pots that I move around my patio and thought that would make so much easier! Thank you! I love watching yall! Im from Georgia, zone 7b.

Is it the pot that is the issue for Calla Lillies, I am in zone 7 and they return every year fruitfully but in the ground. They dont mind wet feet, as they can be planted around ponds, so must have been crowding from other plants blocking sun or something why a couple rotted! Love this, learning so much!
