Great instructions on handling these fish! I never knew you could just put the knife in to a mackerel and using just your fillet knife to take out the internals!
I-ve gutted at least 10, 000 mackerel and either ferment them using everything but the guts. This method I used since 2004 is only for health purposes and taste is not the reason in doing this process. Left out I ferment the fish using raw organic cow milk kefir.
On the other hand love my cold smoked mackerel and detach head and guts on them.

The worms took me right back to a school dinner when we had boiled cod. I'd taken a few mouthfuls going for another and then I saw this thing sticking out of the flesh. Didn't touch fish again for a long time.

Fantastic vid, thank you! If I have to freeze fish ( which I don-t very often as it can ruin the delicate flesh) I vac pack it first, this stops freezer burn and helps keep the flesh in good condition.

Hi John. Absolutely brilliant!
Always nice to see a master at work. Best vid I-ve seen on this.

Awesome video! Growing up my mum worked as a filleter in a fish factory in the Netherlands, she could do 5 flat-fish a minute. It takes me about 5 minutes. She still makes fun of me to this day!
