ISPs can all go jump off a cliff. I currently live in a country with a heavily censored, blocked and monitored internet. I have to use VPNs all the time and even they don't work properly sometimes. My only option at my house for a connection is through the government-owned national ISP. The fastest plan I could get is 16 mbps, which is actually 12, but most of the time I have major packet loss anyway, so it's next to useless.
As soon as starlink becomes available globally, I'll get a unit however I can, even though I have no doubt the government will declare it illegal in no time.

I'm all for placing silicon fabrication back in the US, however the current environment is probably not going to make that cost effective. If it can't be relocated domestically, they should consider India over china. India has a huge untapped workforce, the government would probably be very cooperative to aiding companies in building infrastructure and shafting china while boosting their own economy would, I think, appeal to India.
Besides, if we're going to place foreign investment that will make a nation stronger, I like India a helluva lot more than the scum that is the CCP.

When I used to live in Central Nebraska, after I invested in an enterprise grade router for my home, I had a pretty fast Internet access via Century Link: a 15Mbps/0.8Mbps DSL2 access. This was actually the marketed speed. Most of my friends and neighbors had much worse slower speeds than I did - even while we all had the same 65/month DSL2 service. While my amateur astronomer side dislikes the StarLink satellite constellation, I really want traditional ISPs to rot in hell for scamming folks with broadband services that are plain outrageous.

I applaud the moves by AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel to move/expand silicon manufacturing BACK to the USA. However, these companies shoulder a lot of the blame for the current situation. It used to be Taiwan was a great place to do business, but my fears for the upcoming future is that Taiwan is going to fall back under mainland China control. When that happens, do not be surprised when the chip situation comes from bad to non-existent for Western countries. Yes, the time to act is now.

I'm stuck in a Spectrum area with Windstream just barely far away. I'm paying the same price for 200 MBPS with Spectrum that Windstream sells 1 GBPS at. I could try Hughesnet satellite but it's as much or more than what I currently pay but for 25 MBPS WITH a monthly datacap. I'm all for competition because when an ISP knows they have you by the shorthairs, they don't give a shit about you as a customer. They tell you to just take it, like it, and beg them for more pain.

They are claiming that SpaceX ( which is basically Elon Musk ), is going to fail to deliver the specified requirements to be eligible for the money, when ALL of Elon Musk's companies, and especially SpaceX, having been cranking out world-beating technological marvels deemed impossible by critics. Perhaps the nay-sayers would benefit from Elon's upcoming neauralink brain implants to get an IQ boost.

Oh the irony. Everybody made fun of Intel for wanting to keep their fabs, (and yes, I know, they are going to outsource, but for now they haven't given up on keeping their own fabs) and now that AMD and NVidia do the same, it's good? Most people are too sensitive to admit it, but fact is that this maybe will avoid mining farms guys from China to monopolize everything directly from fabs in China...

Companies worth billions of dollars beg US taxpayers for money instead of investing their own money and making smart investments in their future. This is literally a combination bailout/blackmail move. Socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poors.
Christ, Lisa, at least promise every able-bodied man a 6800XT or something. The New New Deal. A CPU in every socket and a GPU in every PCIe lane!

I got my preorder in for Starlink, 2 minutes from when I heard about it in a cord cutting group.. I hadn't even gotten my email yet.. currently at 3mbps download and for 47 a month is just a nightmare,and watching Steve in 144.. can't wait to tell this company to get their junk of my pole.. and for the folks that don't think this is gonna be a deal and a half, then Starlink is not for you...
