I normally have tons of respect for Steve and GN, but this time you really should've had more integrity and not played so much into Intels hand. Intel wanted a video without TR numbers to be compared against so that if some poor fool searches for it they will see these numbers and that's what you gave them. Especially bad when you say you didn't even analyze your TR numbers prior to filming this because you didn't want to 'break embargo'. If that is the case then just wait 6hrs to release the video and absolutely smack down on Intel for playing foul. This is shitty behaviour and should not be rewarded. The processors are released the same day and the date for TR has been known for quite some time and as such it's silly to try to keep one apart from the other because of 6hr embargo.

For an editor who want to break out of the 16(Intel)/20(Threadripper) bottle neck but wants to preserve budget and Thunderbolt compatibility, would you recommend entry level Threadripper, or the entry level X299 10 series refresh chip with a Newegg refurbished Asus WS Sage Motherboard? I have a 4790K, so going to a 10 core / 20 thread i9 10900X w/ 44 lanes would likely double my options and performance, but sacrifice all the advantages of Threadripper & future proofing? I'd like to spend smart, on a build that will last the next 5 years at least (don't plan on editing above 6K anytime soon. Currently, To get into an HEDT platform new in the current market, it's either a 590 chip from Intel + MB, or a 1399 chip from AMD + MB, but you get nearly double everything.

Steve, for gaming on high core cpus, did you ever tried SW like Project Lasso and limit the thread count on SW level? No need to go to BIOS and disable cores. I have dual Xeon 2667 V4 (32 threads) and i found out that some games like to use second NUMA node, which is the one which do not have GPU connected to it. Lasso allows to easily disable SMT or limit the threads to specific NUMA node. My conclusion is that some games (maybe most of them will) runs best when i assign them to first NUMA and also disable SMT, making them to run only on 8 cores. Windows 1909 did not fixed this for me any noticeable way. I know Intel is not NUMA and the new TR also not, but i think the old TR was NUMA architecture?

For those of us who are after a drop in upgrade to our X299 platform I'd like to see how the 10980XE ranks compared to the rest of their lineup. I have a 7820X so am keen to see if any of these are worth getting as a drop in upgrade. My workload is Sony Vegas, Handbrake, Photoshop & Lightroom but I also play a ton of games too so am mostly looking for a boost to gaming performance. These CPU's might be obsolete on launch but I just want to extend the legs of my current system so am trying to justify whether the're worth a look.

I've seen you use Civ 6 turn time several times now, but those turn time does not seem realistic. Unless you are using the 1. 0 version of Civ 6 because civ 6 got a lot more efficent with later patches and I get 16 sec turn time on an r5 2500u with graphics maxed and no dedicated gpu. If I let the game choose optimal graphics settings then I get a avg. turn time of 9 seconds on the ai benchmark. But I do remember in the games early days that the turn time could be horrible.

This is quite a change. Who would have expected the hard criticism to come from Linus instead of GN? I think you've gotten a bit soft here Steve. After you bashed the 2080 Super so hard for being basically the exact same card I'm a little bothered that you're taking this part seriously, especially when the all of the charts became useless 6 hours after this video launched. Definitely surprised this still has a lot more views than the TR video.

I wish the entire tech review community would have delayed their coverage of this release. What Intel did was despicable and nobody should have even published any review content until the AMD embargo IMHO. One one hand I can't blame those for releasing their stuff hrs before AMD release. But on the other hand I can. Posting a review without it's direct competition because of Intel's BS is disappointing.

So basically if you use photoshop cc 2019, better save a lot of money (put it towards a better/bigger monitor) and get the Ryzen 5 3600 or 7 3700X which will give you the same performance than this new Intel Core i9-10980XE, but a for a really tiny percentage of the cost and less than half of the power drawn. Wow intel, just wow. (If you want more horse power, you always have the Ryzen 9 3900 and 3950.

i don't understand why all this info is presented in a video. i think a video should be more about actual visuals or resumed info and eventually be linked to all of this info in a text format. all of this numbers make somewhat nonsense besides the fact this guy talks fast as sh. don't get me wrong, it's good content, i just think it's awfuly presented.

Just bought 18 core on Newegg. They are sold now, The amount of these cpus Intel is going to sell AMD can only dream of. This is dirt cheap processor, no need to buy a new board and 18 cores overclocked is going to smoke 3950x. Threadripper does not matter nor there is any margin for AMD on those but what the f. you people know
