Barbell Rows To Build A THICK BACK!

Lacking thickness from the side? Then you need some barbell rows in your life. let's get after it. It's funny at several points in my life I've drifted back into ego lifting and pulled way more weight then I should have but even when that happens I still saw progress while when I did this with other lifts the results were dismal. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that if you get your stance down and load that back correctly then even ugly form gets results

-Ryan Humiston, i have a question id love to get answered by you,
Is there any disadvantage to using an EZ curl bar for bent over underhand/overhand rows?
for some context i am new to lifting, making the transition from home gym to a real gym, i can comfortably do 15reps at 50kg EZcurl rows and feel i connect perfectly with it although using the thicker straight bar at the gym (as shown in your videos) i struggle to grip and perform the row in good form and when i can (with less wieght) it doesn't feel like im really hitting the back as well as i do at the home gym,
So, should i keep at it and struggle to correct the straight bar row and stick to my EZ curl bar, id love to hear your advice or the advice from the comments

Build a bigger (insert muscle here):
1. NUTRITION (Take in more calories than you expel, otherwise you-re essentially carrying water buckets with holes in them and have nothing to show for your efforts at the end of the race.
2. Execute the movement properly (Especially upper body posterior chain movements as anterior rotation of the shoulder girdle and the extremities love to compensate for weaknesses to accommodate the inappropriate poundage you-ve selected)
3. SLEEP AND RECOVER (Just like nutrition, you aren-t going to see results if you keep running your body down and don-t recover; sleep 8 hrs for maximum hormone release and stretch, foam roll, etc)

Hey Ryan. Taken a lot of information and knowledge away from your videos and posts. I had a couple questions for you if you have any advice.
What are your thoughts on creatine? If so, what type? Should I cycle off every 4th or 5th week or just continuously maintain once I begin and never cycle off?
Also, should I deload my workouts/lift light every 4th or 5th week to prevent injury/sickness and help increase my muscle gains? If so, should I deload on the same week I cycle off creatine?
Thanks for the advice and looking forward to being enlightened even further. Best wishes and stay safe and healthy to you and your loved ones!

Low flexibility, and the fact I smashed a few discs in a dead-lifting accident years ago, kills me I can't seem to build any size.
if I did proper bent over rows, I'd injurer my back again, I-ve injured my back over 20 times in 6 years because of this problem, but Im too stubborn to give up.
I just stick with cables, if I-m feeling well enough I'll throw on a lifting belt and do bent over rows properly, but it's risky, injury plus my lower back tends not to be stay stretched out.

the form tip you mention about the legs on the bent over row makes perfect sense. I realize ive been using bad form on those on account of bending my knees too much. Ive been lifting since my teens and am now 42 years old, although due to years with two slipped discs back exercises bent over like that Ive only been doing the past couple of years since surgery in 05 but just goes to show you never stop learning. thank you

One of the challenges with working out alone is accountability to keep focused on the workout. Can get distracted with prepping to get yourself motivated or watching too many ideas for a workout that you run out of time. So many DIY home gym ideas, you can spend time getting everything right and not actually have time to work out (guilty. I watch one of your videos typically to motivate me to just get it done!

I did barbell rows for 45 years (64) The way Arnold did them on a bench, Pendlay rows, Yates rows. You name it. Never got a thick middle back. Enough is enough. The biggest secret in bodybuilding is that there is no secret. We are looking for something which does not exist. Heavy. Light. All is relative. Just enjoy your time in the gym and do not get obsessed. Relax and grow.

Damn, this is the way to make great quality videos. No to much talking and explaining and showing the exercise and then its done. I don't mind a longer video about specific information and complex comprehension, but how does it come that almost everyone has to make a 10-15 min. video when you can do a 4 min. video like this one.

Hi Ryan I love the tips and the excercise variants! I'm going to apply them in the gym and in my training! Now my question is: can you give your best shoulder variants with the cables? Or excercises to get those nice 3D delts. I'm really struggling to get those nice round, 3D delts. hope you can help me out - a thousand thx!

Hey Ryan I-m a 42 year old guy who has been in the gym since I was 17 doing it all wrong. I haven-t gotten the results in all the years trying it my way as I have in just a few short months. I was wondering what are the best unilateral lower outside chest exercises and in what combination should I do them.
